This game,
I had so many memories with this game when I was younger, showing friends my city and giving them a tour. I was the only one who actually liked it though, as they just wanted me to stop hogging the PlayStation and move over so that they could play Doom. I still own this 1-disc-yet-2-disc-box-because-the-manual-was-so-huge game.To start, the graphics on this game are pretty good, knowing that this was like the ONLY city building game for the PlayStation 1. The graphics are at a 2.5 D prospective, meaning that the world looks 3.D but are in fact 2.D. The most interesting port of this game however, is the "Driving Simulator", which lets you drive around your city in full 3 Dimensional graphics, which no other port had at the time, even the Sega Saturn port. The sound quality in this game is average, yet with a good, catchy soundtrack that helps you build your city (Although 3000's soundtrack was even better to be honest) the sounds in this game are simple car sounds, and your average Urban sounds. The game is still fun to play after all of these years, whether it is destroying your city and watch it burn to the ground, or make it even bigger, you do whatever you want to in this game. The story I rated low, because you make your own story, as you were just elected mayor in this town you make, (or choose from a scenario to play in). There are many things to do in this game that gives it a lot of depth. Like the mentioned scenarios, or making your own city, in this game, you truly do what you want and there are no limitations except how much money you have, and the city's borders. The difficulty in this game is kind of high because if you do not know what you are doing, you will go bankrupt and another mayor will be elected, and if you raise the taxes too high, there will be riots, and if there is terrible weather, it may potentially destroy your city. All you need to do is choose what is best for your city and do it, and if you don't know how to play, the long manual will give you tips on what to do if you are stuck and let you know what building does what. As with all games however, there are some problems to the game.
The first issue that I have with the game is that during some sequences, the frame rate can get a little slow, such as if there are several riots in your city, your frame rate will be like 10 frames per second, while in a normal game it is usually close to 30 frames per second. Another issue is that the driving simulator is just too simple, all you can do is turn while the car automatically drives, but yes, those are the actually the only problems I had with the game.
To conclude, the game is a great game that should be picked up for not more than $10 and is still fun to play to this day, I recommend this game if you have a PlayStation 1 or PlayStation 2. This game,
