It's nice to be able to make good decisions. You never know if you would regret something heavily after not giving it much thought. Myself, I always like to get things done early and efficiently. "If it's a job done well, it's a job worth doing". That's what I always tell myself. However, sometimes I don't plan out what I'm going to say or what the moral implications are behind it all.  I unfortunately had the habit into things that were irrelevant in my college curriculum,   I say stupid things mostly only because I want someone else's attention, and I don't think things through enough. Indecisiveness bugs me.

How indecisive are you? How do you solve this problem? Thanks for being sincere.

Indecisive enough that I've already changed what I was going to post four times before hitting reply.... It's actually something that's been a problem for me and I've been trying to fight it for over a decade. It's hard for me to do anything without going to someone else for advice.

I thought about it. I'm kinda.... no... well, I'm 8. No, wait, 7. I'm a six? Is this a ten scale or a rate 1 through 5 kind of thing?

Nah. I'm zero indecisive. I'm an action guy. I don't understand indecision, waffling, inaction. To me, action is making decisions. Decisions mean you're free to pick between two or more options.

Taking action, being decision, moving, is power. You're controlling your fate and the fate of others. You're exercising your will over a situation and you're allowing yourself to take control. Control is kinda neat. It means you have power.

Decisiveness is a leadership trait too. You're leading other people because you're accepting responsibility for your actions. It's like the question from before, if we're leaders or followers, and it's one of the most important traits of a leader. You lead because you're the first person to step out from behind cover. You're saying to others, "Follow me because I'm moving forward. I'm attacking." Being decisive shows you have confidence, you have a plan, and leaders derive authority from confidence and moving forward. People want to be around people who show no fear.

How indecisive am I? I'm a -2 of a scale of 1 to 10.

I am extremely indecisive about what food to order when eating out or when cooking at home. I usually end up ordering the same food over and over or go with something that pops out the most- usually works out for me. I am also very indecisive when buying things online so I just do a lot of research and compare prices etc. So far so good on that aspect but, yeah being indecisive can be a bit time consuming lol.

It depends on how I want things really. I do my best to make good decisions for most things, but then I also like things done in a specific way when it comes to food. What jlove has explains on some of her part I would actually do really. Well to do with eating out or when I cook food. I'm not so sure what else to say, if I have something else better to say for next time around. I'll come back and post again only for the second time. '-'

Hi, Ultrajeff! It's nice that you enjoy getting things done early and efficiently, but I'm not sure you understand what indecision is, based on how you described it in your thread. lol Indecision isn't about not planning out what you want to say, saying irrelevant things, saying things to get someone's attention, or not thinking things through. What you're actually describing is something else called "impulsiveness." Is that what you're actually trying to ask about?

However, since you used the word "indecisive" in the title of your thread, and most everyone else has already answered in that vein, I'll talk about indecision too. A long time ago, I was very indecisive, always wavering on the fence about a lot of things. When questioned, I would often say I had no opinion on many subjects/topics because I didn't want to offend anyone, and I thought that hearing all sides of an argument would be enough. However, as I grew older, I learned that indecision actually hurts more than making a decision, even if the decision results in terrible consequences. The reasons are actually pretty simple. Indecision wastes a lot of time, energy and money, and at times, it could also cost you your friendship/relationship with someone. It's probably the worst when it costs someone's life.

Now, I'm never indecisive, even if I still don't appear to have opinions on many things. Despite what people tend to think, there is a difference between being decisive and just not speaking one's mind all the time.

I'm indecisive to the point where any new information makes me reconsider my choice, which makes it to where I seemingly never make a decision

Other times I instantly make a decision because I don't feel like deciding.

jlove92 : I have a challenge for you when you go out to eat the next time. It's fun because it's exciting to give up control. Think of it as a restaurant version of a roller coaster.

Tell the waiter or waitress or server you trust them and you want them to order for you. Tell them if you like chicken, or beef, or you're a vegan or a vegetarian. Tell them if you like spicy or not.

Let them make the decision.

The people that work at the restaurant know what the best food is. They're going to make great decisions for you and you get to try all sorts of things that they know will make your stomach happy.

I call it Server Roulette. I never know what I'm getting. I ask them to not even tell me what they order me. Just bring it out. Most, and I mean like 95% of servers, get a kick out of it and they have fun. It's something to talk about and it makes your decision easy: You don't have one.

Try it just once and let me know how it goes. I promise it's fun and it'll be something you might end up doing regularly. I haven't ordered my own food in two years at restaurants.

Ghostbear1111 : I had never heard of that! I will certainly try it next time I go to a restaurant and let you know how it went! sounds daring specially for someone like me so it could be a fun thing to try ;-) and you are right they tend to know what customers like best so should be a good challenge. Wow 2 years of surprise food

Ayyyyy, yet another thing that I'm not good at. I am very indecisive, for the most part. Sometimes this can be good, but most of the time it just makes things harder or worse for me. The good thing is, that when I do make decisions, they're pretty well-thought out and I usually don't have regrets about them. However, when I take too long, or worse, don't make a decision at all, I waste a lot of precious time to do basically nothing. A big example is in sports. Hesitation can be good sometimes, but more often than not, hesitating a lot in a sport is very detrimental. Your brain should be used to an extent, but you shouldn't be overthinking things like I do. I can be very indecisive in schoolwork too. I spend a lot of time figuring out which subject I should start with, or how I should start my essay or something like that, and I take forever to actually get started.
