So a New Sonic game is coming out and it's called Sonic Mania,  People are hyped for it and generally expect it to be great.

But even with the New Sonic Mania game,  You have to keep in mind there's 2D plat formers and other things that have made Sonic bad.

I'm SC64 and here's 7 things Sega wants you to forget about Sonic the Hedgehog.

Number 7: The timeliness.
Each game that Comes out is supposed to be different time line in Sonic's life, I understand that.  But the problem is Sega can't ever make it in a clear and precise manner in which people can understand.   They've swapped and looped the Sonic time line countless times over the years,  First it's Classic Sonic,   then Morden, then Sonic Boom, and now it's back to Classic.
and worst of all, they've tried Reinventing the Plot Gaps with Sonic 06 and we all know how that turned out...

Number 6: Sliver the hedgehog.
Speaking of Sonic 06'.  It was clear that Sliver the Hedgehog was gonna have some kind of important role in up-coming sonic games, so much that he ended up being a main character in the 06' Plot.

But thanks to Sonic 06 being rushed and a overall failure of a game,  "It's no use" to make  Sliver a main character in the Sonic series,  he only made 2 appearances as a playable character in the Sonic Rival games(which aren't really cannon) And we haven't seen him since.

So in short,  Sega has completely vanished the Future Hedgehog and wants it to be kept that way.       Hey on the bright side, he still has dedicated fan support and will go down in the Meme books thanks to his line of"It's no use!".

Number 5: Sonic used to play music in order to defeat Enemies.

Yep that's right,  in the Cartoon series called "Sonic Underground" Sonic had two family members,  Sonia and Manic the hedgehog.  And basically they would defeat people using  various sorts of instrutments.

Being that Sonic is so beloved for just dashing in and jumping on people's heads,  Sega doesn't want people to Remember the Blue Hedgehog for actually using Music to defeat enemies.

Number 4:  Shadow the hedgehog's own video game..
Oh dear, oh dear..

Ugh this went so wrong.  First off I'm aware Shadow the hedgehog is a popular character, very well known for his appearance in Sonic X and Sonic Adventure for the Sega Dreamcast.

And I really do like the concept of Shadow having his own game, but the Sonic Fandom wasn't quite ready for what happened here.  Instead of a traditional cool plat former, we got a mixture of a Shooting game combined with a Plat forming game, and the addition of horrible controls. The whole Plot of the game didn't help either, it gave you multiple choices which was good but it wasn't cannon and Ultimately Sega would rather take one of those Devices from Men in black and erase it from your memory.

Number 3:  Sonic's First Attempt at 3D..
If you ask Sega what's the first Sonic 3D game released, they'll probably tell you Sonic Adventure.  But that would be incorrect,  Sonic 3D Blast was the original intention of Sonic the hedgehog going to a 3D transformation, the game's engine and graphics look like a Sonic Version of Donkey Kong country, but it was much worse in the end.  That pretty much sums up the whole first 3d attempt of Sonic.

Number 2: They tried to change what Sonic was all about(Again!)
Do you remember Sonic Labyrinth for the Sega Game Gear? No I don't blame you.    The Concept of the game was that Egg man gave Sonic Shoes that would slow him down, but that ruined the game and hurt the franchise entirely.

The game had bad controls, no speed, none of the things that made Sonic the hedgehog Special.

Not to mention the True Ending Of Sonic Labyrinth was a Slap in the face.    So if there's any doubt, this remains proof that any Sonic game can be bad regardless if it's 2D or 3D.

Number 1:  Sonic 06 in it's entirety.

Yep this game has the number one slot, because Sonic 06 was supposed to be that game that made the franchise great again. But it nearly ended up Destroying the series with how bad it turned out.

Sonic 06 It's something that's still discussed and still hated to this day.  So yes It deserves the number one spot on this list.

So what do you think,  Do you agree with this List?  Do tell me your opinions below.

I'm not a Sonic fan, so I can't say, but I do disagree with number three. Sonic 3D Blast is easily my favorite Sonic game (not saying much since I only liked two of them). I know it catches a lot of hate, but I don't see why. It was a solid game and really the only thing I could say against it was that the isometric camera was less than perfect, but then isometric cameras were pretty normal back then. Being judged for what it was -- a nineties game on eighties hardware -- I feel 3D Blast was a huge accomplishment. Plus it's just fun. :3

Also that cartoon...I remember that one. Used to love it. Lol

Honestly, I don't see why Sonic has to have time lines to begin with and I've made the same argument for the Zelda franchise. When I play Sonic, time lines never even cross my mind.

I'm probably going to catch flak for this, but I think Sonic should have stayed 2D. The only 3D Sonic games I've played and liked to some degree were Shadow and Heroes, and even though they weren't great, I don't think they were terrible and they ran higher than either of the Adventure games, in my opinion.

I also don't thin 3D Blast was horrible. I mean, between the camera angle and the art style, I can't look at it without getting a headache and being nauseated, but as far as controls and physics go, I thought it was pretty solid.

I haven't seen or played enough Sonic so as to talk for other points, so I can only agree with number seven and disagree with four and three (and five to a degree).

While it's true that Sonic may not need a time line, there IS a time line and therefore the creators must respect it. One game Sonic and Shadow are enemies, on the next one they're allies, on another one Shadow isn't even mentioned... Something's amiss here, and I agree that creators should have a bit of consistency regarding what happens after and before each game.

Sonic Blast wasn't that bad in my opinion, and even if it was a failure there are failures in every franchise. Did they correct the supposed failure Blast was? Of course they did. I didn't get to play Jam, but it looks really good, and what to say about the Adventure games.

Sonic started as a game, the anime is just an expansion that has its own story and background to offer something different to the fans. Just like Angry Birds now, that has been made into a movie, Japan's theme is to turn things into manga or anime. We cannot ask for one part of the Sonic universe to meet the other part, no matter how much we like any or both parts.

Shadow's game was designed to be different. You cannot ask for a co-protagonist to steal the protagonist role and do the exact same things. Wario and Luigi don't do the same things as Mario in the games they take the main role, so Shadow was used for a new concept of game. This way, they tried to save the name of Sonic: by not making it the protagonist or being mentioned in the title most people could simply say "make Sonic protagonist again" and then we go back to the usual games.

One thing we shouldn't forget is Chao. Part of the reason why Adventure was a blast was because the Chao Garden. A place where you could spend thousands of hours and still not get tired, it would easily make room for at least 50 trophies on its own in present generations. That's something that Sega has forgotten and should bring back, and not with remastered versions of Adventure.

m0ssb3rg935 :

That's true, but Zelda makes sense not to have a time line because of the titles.

It's called Legend of Zelda, so you can say each story is a different legend,  something different that happened in each time line of Link.

The same rule also gets applied to all the Different Final Fantasy games,      Even though their in a clear order none of them are related(outside of their name).

Sonic the hedgehog though really didn't have much excuses though.     Like I've said in 06' they tried to reinvent the whole sonic timeline and plot gap.

EX Palen :
Oh I like the fact that they tried something different.    The problem lied in the execution of the shadow the hedgehog game.  The game it's self was poorly executed, and a lot of people weren't thrilled about Shadow holding a gun.
I'm aware Sonic the hedgehog always started out as a gaming franchise, and expanded into Comics, TV Shows, and anime later on.  But at the same time,. Shadow's plot in that game was somewhat based off of his role in Sonic X.
He said he had a promise to keep, to protect earth.  He did the exact same thing in Sonic X, when having flash backs about Maria.
mariosonic123 :
Yeah I'm well aware of their twitter account and Meme's.

I can respect that they joke about '06, but at the same time every game company tries to make light out of previous bad situations.

Well, if I were in charge of Sega, I'd want people to forget about 06 as well. Then again, if I were in charge of Sega, I'd try to get everyone to forget about Sonic Boom, but they want to keep that trainwreck going for some reason...

Now as far as Shadow's own video game goes, I've been trying to forget about that one for so long. They wasted a perfect opportunity to capitalize on Shadow's popularity by making one of the worst games in the series.

Yeah.....Thats the thing with sonic game nowadays most of the reason I don't really play the new ones. I tend to only play the old ones for that reason. What I feel now what Sega is doing isn't really so encouraging for the fans in a way. When that happens most people will stop playing any new sonic games that come out. I wouldn't be surprised if most just stick to the old ones. I just question what Sega is doing, and why they can't try to make certain things better. But, this is just my opinion based on it. I hated Sonic 06 for a reason like I said the only thing that was decent and likable in the game was the soundtracks that's it.
