The Sonic the Hedgehog franchise is a series full of twists and turns, and loop-d-loops. Many questions have been answered. Many loose ends have been tied up. But there is one mystery that has not been exploited in any Sonic game (to my knowledge): Why is Sonic often warped to a secret dimension when he attempts to find the all-powerful Chaos Emeralds? Why does it happen in some games and not in others? Is Sonic put into a trance, and has to fight a battle in his mind, and the special stages describe that battle in a way that is comprehensible to a gamer? Are the chaos emeralds obtained by passing certain trials, like how Link has to face a different temple to unlock each sage in the Legend of Zelda? For example, before Sonic can become Super Sonic, he must pass the seven trials, which the Master Emerald (with Chaos inside it) mystically creates to test Sonic's specific traits that he needs to show in order to be worthy of holding the chaos emeralds. Each emerald's color is a representation of what kind of trials must be faced to obtain it: Red Chaos Emerald - The Emerald of Power (Trial is a test of strength, speed, courage, other physical qualities, etc.) Green Chaos Emerald - The Emerald of Nature (Trial is a test of health, youthfulness, kindness, vigor, things, qualities of the heart, etc.) Blue Chaos Emerald - The Emerald of Peace (Trial is a test of truth, confidence, loyalty to friends, whether he protects them, things of the mind, etc.) Cyan Chaos Emerald - The Emerald of Dreams (Trial is a test of creativity, discernment, the ability to think openly, qualities of the inward being, etc.) Purple Chaos Emerald - The Emerald of Wisdom (Trial is a test of faith, conscience, qualities of the spirit, etc.) Yellow Chaos Emerald - The Emerald of Joy (Trial is a test of happiness, hope, a love for life, empathy, light-heartedness, emotional qualities, etc.) Gray Chaos Emerald - The Emerald of Safety (Trial is a test of desires to help others, intelligence, reliability, qualities of the personality, etc.) These emeralds also have "dark energies". The same colors that represent good things can also represent bad things such as Rage, Illness, Chaos, Nightmares, Pride, Hatred, Destruction/Death. Which is why Eggman is able to harness the energy for his evil plans. And also why Sonic also has a dark super form. So, what if there was a Sonic game that centered more on the role of the chaos emeralds and what the secret dimension is, or what the special stages represent. If the Special Stages actually take place in some crazy dimension outside of time and space, what if Eggman somehow found out how to enter that dimension, and found even greater sources of power. What if him opening the dimension causes some kind of disturbance, and begins a kind of apocalypse? It won't be anything like the city being flooded, or the moon being blown in half, or a giant flaming demon turning the world into ash, or the planet splitting into seven pieces, and unleashing a dormant beast. It will be something much more evil and disturbing. Something on a Universal scale. Every character we already know and perhaps some that we don't know would have to put everything they have into saving the universe and defeating the monster that Eggman accidentally released because of his idiotic schemes. In the end, Sonic meets some kind of Grand Master of the Universe or something really cool-sounding. And the Grand Master finally explains the Chaos Emeralds and the Special Stage Dimension thoroughly. And explains that Sonic is some kind of chosen one who was able to cross the dimensional barrier without rupturing it. And it has been becoming part of Sonic since the very beginning. And the more Sonic is in contact with his friends, the essence kind of spreads to them. Allowing his friends to use the power, but only a fraction of what Sonic can do, because they are not directly connected to the alternate dimension. When Professor Gerald Robotnik created Shadow the Hedgehog, he unknowingly discovered how to physically connect a being to the dimension. Thus why Shadow can use the power. This applies to Silver the Hedgehog as well. And Mecha Sonic from Sonic & Knuckles. They all have some kind of connection to this secret dimension. Blaze the Cat, who exists in the Sol dimension with the Sol Emeralds is linked as well. However, the Secret Dimension is so vast, and full of power that it would be almost impossible to obtain the Chaos emeralds and Sol emeralds. The only way is if they have already been obtained and brought to the planet, and someone manages to get a hold of them. There are other kinds of emeralds as well. In Sonic Rush it is explained that the Chaos emeralds are like a North Pole, and the Sol emeralds a South Pole. What if there was a Center Pole, and an axis with an "East" and "West" pole. The Sonic franchise could expand and become something no one ever would have imagined before. Why is Sonic often warped to a secret dimension when he attempts to find the all-powerful Chaos Emeralds? you are over thinking how it originally works, the stages are min-games that Sega puts on every game. There is no reason other than having the player play it for fun. The emeralds are powerful only from the user, not some kind of item or rule that needs to be filled. It has been shown in many sonic games that anyone even robots can use the emeralds so long has they need help from it. |
