Alright, so, in the National Football League, as anyone who's in this particular sub forum knows, there are pass rushers. These pass rushers contribute a great deal to any NFL team, causing disruption and mayhem in the offense's backfield when they do their job right and, in general, completely shutting down plays.

It's tough to be an NFL team without a good pass rush these days, honestly. It's become an integral part of any modern defense, and there are a lot of guys who would like to claim the title of the best for themselves, but which one of them do you personally think can claim to be the best in the National Football League?

Now, take into note that I'm asking about the modern NFL, not guys from the past.

Personally, I'd say J.J. Watt, but I'm not going to argue as to why just yet, I want to hear everyone else's opinion before I do.

This isn't really up for debate if everyone is healthy. Justin Houston is the best pass rusher in the NFL. Period.

He has been amazing when healthy, but staying healthy is a problem. He gets tons of sacks and tackles for losses.

Other than him, JJ Watt is second. He is also very good when healthy.

Barathemos: I can't agree with you at all there. While Justin Houston is a very, very good pass rusher, he had one phenomenal season that made everyone else look like crap, with a whopping twenty two sacks. And beyond that, he has certainly done extremely well, and played on an elite level, but in two seasons he has done better than J.J. Watt, and those two seasons were by half a sack and a half of a sack, respectively.  ad Houston started in five more games this season, I doubt he would have gone over eleven sacks. Watt is a consistently better pass rusher who gets not only more sacks in general, but tackles as well. They started playing in the same year, and these are their totals.

Watt: 298 tackles, 74.5 sacks, 15 forced fumbles, 45 pass deflections
Houston: 224 tackles, 56 sacks, 8 forced fumbles, 25 pass deflections

While it could be argued that Houston missed 5 games in 2013, again, he wouldn't have gotten another twenty sack season. The other thing is too, people don't plan their entire game around Houston. They give the offensive tackles a pep talk.

I'm not saying that Houston isn't a phenomenal player, but he has nothing, nothing on Watt beyond a season with one and a half more sacks than a total JJ Watt pulled off not once, but twice.
