You people are crazy! I think this is an awesome idea! It gives people who are around my age ( give or take 5 years or so ) who didn't get a chance to own a NES or even play one, a second chance to actually play it. And 30 games for $60 including a small version of the console and a controller? Its really not that bad of a deal in my opinion.

To people like my wife, who's 25 years old and has never played a NES, it should be worth a lot more than that if you ask me. I would pay upwards of $100 to watch her play all these games and have the time of her life doing it. I'll definitely be getting one...but its not gonna be for me. It will be for my wife. She had very, very strict parents growing up ( probably more strict than yours, and I'm not saying yours weren't strict...I'm just saying hers are MORE strict ) and her folks never let them play video games or hardly ever watch TV for that matter. I keep talking about how it was really fun to play as a little kid, and it makes her want to try it out. She's really excited about it!

Heck, I'd pay $200 for this because I know it will make my wife very happy for a loooong time...probably forever.

MattyIce : While yes, you are correct, it will give anyone under the age of 30 or so the oppritunity to play games like this, but this is also what this site is for

Nah, Im kind of kidding xP That was going to be my main point. Physical games/console's are always better.

Not everyone are not obsessed with grapics and fps and oldie games and to have the new hip thing that everyone has. I mean, people payed $600 when the XBOX One first came out. I'm not questioning if everyone on this site wouldn't get one, because I'm sure it would be a nice thing in my collection for only 60 dollars. Not trying to be pessimistic about it, I'm just saying with today's generation, they won't be as interested in something like unless they've never heard of a NES or they have someone close to them that owns one and would want to try it out.

Edit - May I also add that it really would be better if it would go online like a Wii and be able to purchase a digital copy of a NES game. IMO they should've made a SNES and put both types of games.

Fyredove : I agree wholeheartedly that physical games and consoles are better, but this device isn't really a physical console, it's just a mini PC, and the games are just data.
Technically an over priced one for what it is, I mean it's not even up gradable.
Change that flaw and I'd consider buying one, especially if other games were released in packs of 10-30 games.
Otherwise I'll stick to using a reproduction NES USB controller and roms, it's really the same experience but for less money, and every penny counts (especially when here in Aus the damn thing is twice as expensive for no good reason).
Or hell I'll pull out my old NES from storage and hook it up, pew pew

Nice! This kinda reminds me of the Wii Mini . Good to know that Nintendo is remaking classic consoles! I'm thinking of getting it, that way I'll have my first experience with a classic console :3. Too bad it only has 30 games, but hey it's still better than nothing, right? Plus you can always play all the NES games on this site (in fact you don't even need the RGR plug in to play NES games, if I'm correct).

MattyIce : It's an awesome idea for those who don't have a Wii, Wii-U, an original NES or a Retron5 but for those who do, this is nothing special. I can just pick and choose which games I want on the Wii/Wii-U and can also pick and choose from even more games than this on there as well.

Jordanv78 : I want to like this but I feel like Nintendo didn't think far enough ahead. What if this does do really well? Are they going to release another NES Mini with another 30 games? Than that means people will have to have 2 of these sitting around just to be able to play a total of 60 games. I really think there should have been a way to expand the game collection.

I was thinking about it a little more and the only possible use I would have for this would be for taking it places. It being small and having all the games built in makes it perfect for taking to a family member's house during Christmas or Thanksgiving and letting all of the older people relive some memories while enlightening all of the kids what games use to be like.

Vanelan : The reason it probably doesn't include more than 30 games at the $60 price is most likely due to licensing fees. They of course have to pay the companies that own these IPs money to include those games in this package and only around half of these games are 1st party games.

DarkHyren : Yeah if it could play more games than the 30 games it comes with in some way, this would be a definite buy for me. 3 things that they could have done with it includes:
-Ability to play original cartridges on it
-Release cartridges exclusive to it that have different packs of games
-Ability to connect online to buy additional games

If they had taken the route of releasing their own cartridges exclusive to this with bundles of games, that would've been pretty cool. For example, releasing a Mega Man cartridge that includes all of the Mega Man games or a Capcom cartridge that includes all of the Capcom games. Doing something like this definitely would have made them more money off of this so that's definitely a missed opportunity.

Davideo7 : They could have included a lot more of their IPs then.
Just saying that $2 a game (yea yea, hardware costs) is a bit steep.

Vanelan : This is Nintendo, they've been known to be kinda greedy when it comes to the price of their stuff. A lot of their games on the Virtual Console cost between $5-$10 which is ridiculous considering that these are old games that haven't been enhanced in any way. This is also the same company that released Super Mario All Stars (All-Stars) 25th anniversary for the Wii which I'm pretty sure retailed for US $50 at launch and it was literally just a re-release of Super Mario All-Stars (SNES) with a little bit of art and maybe a soundtrack. Meanwhile SEGA released the Sonic Ultimate Genesis Collection for the Xbox 360 and PS3 and it contains 50+ classics (and loaded with features) and only retailed for US $30 at launch.

My point is, Nintendo knows how to make as much money as possible with as little investment as possible. They've been doing it for years and they're going to continue doing it. The fact that they're even selling this for only $60 with 30 games is actually kind of amazing.

Something unrelated to that which I wanted to point out is that this may be the reason why Nintendo had been having their games removed from so many sites from around the internet. They most likely were doing that in preparation for this. It also kinda makes me think that they'll be releasing other "clone systems" if this does well, which I'm sure it will, especially if Nintendo plays the whole supply and demand tactic where they "can't keep up with demand".

Davideo7 : I kinda want this mini NES to fail.
Not because they are over charging for it, but because they didn't even make it so you can use the old games or even link it to your Nintendo account and download games that you buy/bought in the shop.

Vanelan : I second the motion. If this thing could take more games then yeah it would be an ok investment, even if they had of made it a small propriety slot so that you could buy game cards with 30 more games on it would have been fine, because it's obvious WHY they didn't put in internet capabilities.
Nintendo wont discuss what's in the box and flatly refused to answer whether or not it was using an emulator, so to me that makes the answer "YES", which means if it had internet capabilities people would be able to easily just put roms on it and play away.
This will be confirmed as soon as a modder gets their hands on it, I wouldn't be surprised if in the first week we have instructions on how to open it up and add more roms to it

DarkHyren : Its also very easy to set up a much cheaper Raspberry Pi than CAN connect to the internet and set up multiple emulators.
Do you know which option I will be going with?

DarkHyren : That's actually a really good point. I didn't even think of the possibility of modders modding this thing if it had access to internet or cartridges. If modders do find a way to mod it by dumping more roms on it, I may actually consider getting this then. Having a 1st party device like this created that has every NES game on it would be pretty awesome. If that did happen and if I did get it because of that then it'd be kinda funny that I'd be getting this not because of what Nintendo intended but for what Nintendo didn't intend but either way they'd be getting my money

Something else I wanted to comment on regarding the NES Mini is that though I likely won't get it I do find the lineup interesting. Particularly a few of the more odd games like Startropic which unless memory serves me wrong wasn't even released in Japan. I think it's pretty cool that they're adding games like that to it since it could open them up to gain a new mainstream audience in stead of it being considered more obscure like it is today.

Also in the unlikely event that this could ever be modded so you could download more NES games on it, I might actually change my mind about getting it.

They really should add a lot more classics though, but I do like the price and idea of bringing the old games to the new generations.

Zlinqx : I'm sure someone will eventually find a way. Now whether that way is easy to pull off or not will determine whether I get it or not. If it requires soldering then I'd probably not do it (even though I do have some soldering supplies, I've never actually put them to use lol).

Davideo7 : I do agree that it certainly could have been thought through a little more. I would at least hope that there would be ways to expand it later... but honestly for the price point I would be more than happy to buy more than one of these. I'm hoping they make at least one SNES one as well.

Jordanv78 : Wouldn't you also want to see them make one for the GBC and N64 as well? I think it would be a very smart decision on Nintendo's part to release these kind of mini retro systems for all of their classic systems from the N64 back.

gamerforlifeforever : since I still own my original NINTENDO and come here to play the games this is not something that I would consider buying but for anyone who has never owned a NINTENDO and likes playing the games it might be of interest to them although personally I think they could have added more than just 30 games

So I've been thinking and drawing my own conclusions, here's my theory. Nintendo has steadily been on the decline for there home entertainment systems (not there handheld systems) since xbox360 and PlayStation 3 came out and has been dying since and finally they are on there last leg due to the fact they can't stay afloat from just there DS, DSi , 3DS etc. etc. sales. So Nintendo being the cash grab schemers that they are decided to re-release games and content that the have released in there glory days so therefore they have been taking down rom sites with there classic games on them so that they can pull more of this crap like this NES mini. I won't be buying a NES mini for the fact that I have a NES emulator on my laptop as well as mostly all these games and better ones for the system and honestly why would you pay for an imitation of a classic console that will play games in rather crappy graphics honestly it's back tracking and only proves that Nintendo is fresh out of ideas and will try to sucker unaware buyers to pay for already released games and consoles  that they can get for free . (on a side note I'm mad Nintendo took down there games from vizzed)
