Pokemon X and Y, the series that marked the beginning of the 6th Generation was a huge surprise of Game Freak. Entering this next generation with full 3D, something that only the spin-off games, the first being Pokémon Stadium could only do! Years later, the main core series feel more like real life now! One step at a time I guess... However, while that is the biggest step this series has gotten. Pretty much everything else is either downgraded or forgotten altogether. How this is dubbed as "The Best Generation of Pokémon" is beyond me. It’s sickening how these games, have brainwashed fans into giving these games this undeserving title. These games are not complete! And that is exactly what, I a fan of Pokémon experienced through my first play through... It was utterly disappointing... Seeing as the 6th Generation is already ending, with Pokémon Sun and Moon on the way. I think it is about time, I confess what I really think of this game. Those who really like this game…
LEAVE NOW! BECAUSE I AM ABOUT TO SHOW MY TRUE COLORS!

The Graphics: 9 – Amazing! Truly it pushes the technical limitations of the 3DS! ITS NOT A SELLING POINT YOU GUYS!

Yeah! A 9! Why? Simmer down now... The positives first... The graphics of this game are just amazing... That's all you really have to now. The logo, the characters, the Pokémon, even something as simple as text is redefined by the graphics of this game. God knows how they pull this off on a piece of crap like the 3DS, but one thing is for sure, they really pushed the limits of what the 3DS could handle, which is good. Why? Well, because take this for example, the original PlayStation. Great console, but GOD THOSE GRAPHICS! HORRIBLE! Although it is true, a good game and or console is not made by graphics, however this was the late 90s, we were about to enter the new millennium, so no, shut up. Not to mention the N64 used cartridges and that was quote on quote a bad move by Nintendo, so there shouldn’t be excuse… Then again Nintendo did backstab Sony, and most likely they wanted to release their hunky beast, the PlayStation ASAP. Anyways, then Crash Bandicoot came along and became one of the most appealing PlayStation games, no scratch that it wasn't just Crash Bandicoot, but it's entire series. Maybe I'll talk about Crash Bandicoot, but now some Pokémon X and Y...

The only problem I have with the graphics is the massive show-off. Heck, one area is completely to demonstrate the power of the engine the game runs on. You know, I wouldn't have a problem if this was actually vital for the story. Here's another example: in Pokémon Black 2 and White 2, DS games that again pushed the limits of the DS. Showed off what it was made of through cut scenes. However, Pokémon X and Y, it was mandatory for you, the player, to walk in this accursed mansion, ALL TO JUST CHASE A FURFOU TO GET THE POKEFLUTE TO WAKE THE FAT TUB ON THE BRIDGE!

My apologies, for my outburst, but seriously was Parfum Palace really necessary? If you ask me, I would see this as the worst detours in video game history. Now you know why the graphics are a rating of 9? Because of the massive focus on the graphics, I couldn't care less for the game itself.

The Sound: 10 - #3 Spot for best Pokémon Soundtrack

Although not beating Gen 5 and the Shadow Pokémon games the soundtrack of Pokémon X and Y is very unique, dare I say, a style I haven't heard in a while. I guess all music is like that. I have some personal favorites, all of them. Heheheheheheh... No, but I will mention some. These favorites being, the Rival Battle Theme, Successor Korina's Theme, Team Flare Boss Lysandre's Battle Theme, Champion Diantha's Battle Theme, and The Generation 1 Wild Pokémon Remix. There is more, but out of all of them those are my favorites. Good soundtrack....

The Addictiveness: 4 - So... What is New?

When I thought Gen 1 was the least addictive, then I play Pokémon X and Y, and I swallow my words. Sure it is main series Pokémon; it doesn't screw up with anything. Keeps it all the same, but redefines in such a way. Pokémon has done this so much. However, this game, fails to deliver new to the table, instead it gives us: a seemingly rushed game, the most horrible ideology of video gaming; graphics makes a good game, couple that with a rushed and mundane story, and little to no depth. Don’t worry… I’ll tackle the rest of the topics… So onward!

The Story: 5 - Man... This is Just Awful...

The story is very mundane. I MEAN VERY MUNDANE! I won't try to spoil much, but that is pretty much irrelevant... The story is the same as always, "You start in said town, pick your starter, battle gym leaders, while building bonds with your Pokémon and rivals and other Pokémon you decide to capture, all while battling an evil organization that threats the world in some way, when peace is restored you take on the final challenge: The Pokémon League Champion." Same story. I know, but I can live it, since this is the basic formula of the entire series. Think about it as Mad Libs. You fill in the characters’ names, the region they explore, the crime organization they take down in the middle of the progress of the story, their motive, and goal. Then you fill down all of the over 9000 Zubats in each cave… Simple! The problem I have with the story is how undeveloped and rushed it is. You have not 1, not 2, not even 3, but 4 rivals! Which I see what they were going for. 1 is your Gary Oak (albeit, not as good as Gary himself) who is either male or female; depending on the gender you chose, the second is your BFF who supports you in all situations, the third is the weird one of the group that one guy that makes the situation all better, and the fourth and final one is the brains that one dude that probably has big bucks under his wallet and talks in this very perfect British accent, not to mention talks like a grown gentleman of a wealthy manor, and probably has an IQ higher than you could ever have. However, in battle, even his intellect won't help him.

The problem is that it’s like they are just there. They are just there for you to gain some EXP, skip their dialogue, as they become uninteresting. That's another thing, they aren't seen all the time, usually you are all alone. Which is good, but once meeting them, even I can't recognize them as being my friends.

The crime organization, Team Flare is weird too, but not in a good way. This is pretty much the things you could question in life. Why!? Why!? Obviously, being rip-offs of Team Galactic (a.k.a., the greatest Pokémon crime organization, in my opinion), as their leader, Lysandre wishes to destroy all Pokémon, only to leave undying beauty. Excuse me, Mr. Lysandre, but Cyrus wanted to use the creation trio, the same Pokémon that created the entire Pokémon Universe, to destroy said universe and recreate it without spirit. That is how dark Pokémon can get in an instant... THAT ALONE MAKES ESRB QUESTION THE “E” RATING!

The story of AZ is rushed as well, which stinks, because the man did have a lot of potential, now all he is nothing but Pokémon mythos shrouded in god knows how many veils of obscurity.

And don't get me started with the Pokémon Champion, Diantha, she did jack Shiftry! And Professor Sycamore’s two little “minions”, Dexio and Sina, yeah trying to take credit for the job I did, doesn’t help the situation one bit does it…

PokéPuns aside, bottom line, the story of this game was VERY MUNDANE!

The Depth: 3 - If I Could Think of This Series' Low Points, it is These 2 Games...

The biggest thing these games had to offer. AND THEY BLEW IT!
Everything...
I mean EVERYTHING!
Is just a lost opportunity...?

That one room in Reflection Cave that seems fitting for Diancie...
The fact that most legendries have to be gotten through events…
Those two women talking of a Steam Pokémon in Luminose... It's Volcanion guys...
The story behind the horde of faceless men...
The story behind the Luminose City ghost girl…
The lack of Pokémon...
The lack of innovation...
The lack...
The lack...

The lack... lack... lack... lack... lack... lack...
lack... lack... lack... lack... lack... lack...
lack... lack... lack... lack... lack... lack...
lack... lack... lack... lack... lack... lack...

THE LACK OF EVERYTHING!

The Pokémon there was only 72 introduced, which is very lackluster.
So much that even Gen 2 beats this game by not just the quantity of Pokémon, but everything else...

I know I am saying "everything" and “the lack of” and the word “lack” in general so much, but that's the problem...
These games are very incomplete...

Sure...
We got Fairy Types which brought balance to the type chart.
Super Training improved the way we can raise Pokemon
Poke-Amie is getting us closer to what a "bond between trainer and Pokémon" really is.
Mega Evolution... While not very a big fan of it, I can see why others like it so damn much.
Probably the 2nd unique roster in Pokémon history, although being scarred with the fact that is lacking...
I can probably go on...
But, the thing you really have to know is how much these games lack...

The Difficulty: 1 - It is Nonexistent...

This game is way too easy. The fact that the EXP Share gives the rest of your party the same EXP as you, is just ridiculous. Even worse, many have found the Luminose City exploit!

(If you don't know what I am talking about here's a link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ky8ErEKOyg)
(I actually did a thread of this a while back, but the video is much better at explaining...)

The brainless AI of these games don't help one bit either and the fact that they give you 2 free megas very early...

SERIOUSLY DID GAMEFREAK INTENTIONALLY MAKE THESE GAMES EASY?!

Overall: 6.7 - In My Opinion, The Worst Pokémon Games to Date

For a game, that claims to be the best Pokémon game of all time, it really does not have the right to deserve that title… Now with Pokémon Sun and Moon along the way. This all the more frustrating. It just makes Game Freak look like they know that the game is bad, and for those who like this game more than be, I apologize… I cannot understand what people see good in XY… It is not complete, if you decide to look at it for one moment and piece together where you as a gamer believes where each element of the game goes… I will not give the same bashing to OR/AS, as they are just remakes, but this was supposed to be what introduced us to the 6th Generation of Pokémon and it failed to appeal me. So much in fact, that I am actually playing the older games as I speak, well rather type. You know what I mean! As I play these old games, I realize more and more, what XY could done better, to appeal me and its fans of the series that have the same thought about this game like me… With that being said, for me XY is a stinker deserving of a rating of a 6.7…

Well hopefully, Game Freak can convince me to play its new game… ACTUALLY, I HAVE NO CHOICE! I HAVE TO SAVE POPPLIO!

Wow... just WOW! This is one of the best reviews I have read in a very, very long time. You use abundant details and tell exactly why you liked (or, most likely, dislike) the metric, you made abundant comparisons with other Pokémon games and your "ranting" was actually very well ordered. I can not wait to read another review of yours!

VideogamemanX :

Actually I think they didn't add as many Pokemon since the Mega Evolutions make up for it, but I can see where you're coming from. This is a great review even though there's a ton of screaming and I disagree with you about our opinion of the game.

But at least I know that I'm not the only Popplio fan.

While I personally disagree, having loved the games, I do agree with a lot of what you have said, and it is, overall, a very good review, and somewhat surprising, too, since you were so willing to go out of the comfort zone that was set by the previously high ratings of the games. So overall very good review and it was very in depth, I just tend to disagree with it is all.
