Hi everyone. I'm here with another idea for a thread. When we are all young. We tend to make up a childhood dream such as. When I grow up I want to be an actor, actress, singer, dancer and many more that you can think of. Were you able to make that dream into a reality? Or did you have to take a different turn and approach to that? Thus changing what you used to say and go for something new. I would really like to hear what you have to say about this. So were you able to keep this childhood dream of yours? Or you had to change it for various of reasons?

I'm not entirely sure if I had a childhood dream in the first place. If I did, it's probably dead. If you're talking about like when kids say "I wanna be a firefighter" I wouldn't really consider that a dream. I'd consider it more like something kids think of since they can't think of a lot of other jobs other than the basic ones that they learn in school and stuff.

When I was a kid I always wanted a hat.
Then one day I got a hat.
I also figured out hats don't go with my facial structure.
Never worn a hat ever gain.

LunarDarkness2 : I know but there are some child dreams adults have lived on. It wouldn't be for everyone. But its a question I just want to know from people general. Yes kids will know of this from school and stuff. But it depends on them as they grow up if they would want to take it seriously or change their mind and go for something else.

Actually, a while back I wanted to set the Guinness World Record for having the longest hair believe it or not. I only got to a couple of feet before it got too difficult to brush, so I got it cut.

I'd say my earliest dream was to become a writer.  I never intended to be the next Tolkien, just to produce something that would be considered a good read-maybe even make a trilogy or something.

Early English teachers were encouraging, but nobody else ever was.  I'd be told my writing was too clinical, too intellectual, too detached.  A lot of times I was accused of cribbing material from books I'd never read.  When I took a Beginner's Fiction course in college it was the unanimous opinion of the class that I shouldn't try to write for human beings until I understood them better.  (Like they had any room to talk... 90% of their writing was religious and/or sexual, with plots so transparent that the attempted surprise endings could be guessed three pages in and characters that did not endear themselves to the reader)

Since writing was clearly going over like a lead balloon, I settled for trying to become a publishing house editor.  My ability to tell when writing just wasn't working very well had to come in handy for that, right?  But no, you don't get to be an editor unless you know somebody important in a publishing firm-and epublishing editors are working more or less pro bono.  I changed my major to English, which I already knew meant the diploma would be worth less than a polishing rag, because the head of the department promised to get me in touch with people who could get me that job.  Then she retired two weeks before graduation, leaving an entire office full of angry students she'd suckered so she could claim expertise by showing how much more popular she'd made the degree.

These days I work at a crummy part-time job and just dream of eventually getting work that would pay a living wage.

I was 10 or so when Jurassic Park came out in the theater. My parents were never big on going to see movies until they were in the cheap theater but we splurged and went to see Jurassic Park at Laurel Park Movie Theater. We stood in line and it was worth the time. The movie was awesome, especially since it was on the big screen with the loud sound, etc.

My dream at that point was, "Hey, this is possible because they gave us the science to it. I'll not only create the first real dinosaur, I'll be a T-Rex wrangler and I'll learn to handle them much better than any of the clowns in this movie."

Safe to say that never happened. I didn't follow that dream.

When I was 14 years old and in 9th grade, I saw a documentary on the Navajo code talkers in both the Navy and Marines during World War II. I took that information and watched more documentaries on the United States Marine Corps. I decided in early 11th grade to be a Marine once I got out of high school.

I went to boot camp at Parris Island, South Carolina, a week after I received my high school diploma. I spent six years getting dirty and blowing things up.

That dream came true. It was one of the greatest experiences of my life.

My childhood dream was probably beating every video game out there. Unfortunately, that is very unrealistic. So now I just play games that I want, with some random games thrown in there because I was bored.

I also always wanted to be a video game developer. Which atm I'm thinking over because... reasons. But it's still up there on what I want to do. I even have a video game universe created in my mind... just wish I could actually code or at the very least get the motivation to write a draft of the story. Getting better at drawing the characters would also help too.

I suppose for smaller childhood dreams I've actually achieved, it would have to be getting a better computer (which I am SO glad happened) and, if it counts, being a local on here (newbie dreams lel).

When I was really young, and I'm talking 4-5 years old...VERY young, I'll never forget that I loved to watch The Weather Channel with my mom or dad in the morning before I went to school. I remember that for whatever reason, I was just fascinated by the way it was run. Just looking at the colors on the radar and listening to the guy describe them and what they meant...it was just fun to watch for me. But way back then, I knew that someday I wanted to be a weatherman ( meteorologist, whatever you want to call it lol ). It was the first thing that I actually "wanted" to be when I grew up and I suppose you could call it a childhood dream of mine.

Yeah, so nowadays I'm nowhere close to that XD However, I do still enjoy to watch The Weather Channel and I actually live in Atlanta...home of the world HQ believe it or not. I suppose that if I change my mind and choose to pursue that dream again, I only live about a hour away from the company lol

My childhood dream was to be a baseball player for my favorite team. The dream hasn't really gone away, and has changed a bit to be in a similar field but it's still there. Fast forward like 15 years and im studying various sports related field, on the verge of getting a sports management degree, received 3 different certificates in the sports field, and have held jobs and volunteer positions with various sports teams and organizations along with other related fields, so id like to think nothing major happened to that dream.

Noyb42 : Oh....that seems to be a great dream to have but I am really sorry it hasn't come true as of yet. For some or most people it might not happen due to one problem or another. '-'

Ghostbear1111 : Wow that sounded like a cool dream. Sorry it didn't come true for you. And what do you mean by blowing things up?.....do you not mind elaborating on that please? @.@

ZeroTails : Well you could do it if you tried. As it is sadly not everyone can do it. They can like only beat some games or most games they tend to play. It depends on the genre you play on. A video game developer huh? I say you should look into it. You love megaman games or megaman x things as well. Give it a try. It takes process to build. But if you really try in years you may be able to achieve it. But then again its your decision if you want too.

MattyIce : Oh really? It would had been cool to see you try and go for it. But as said not many children or kids would actually stick to what they said when they were young. So its understandable.

zanderlex : Oh...I see. But I think what you are doing now better suits you. I mean you could had been a baseball player who knows?  

I'm not really sure what qualifies as a dream, really... If you mean the one thing that you want to do and won't know what to do with your life once achieved, than I'd have to say I didn't really have one up until about 3 years ago. I thought several things were really cool.... It started when I was really little and I wanted to learn about cars, then it went to fighter jets in my pre-teens, and since, I feel like my purpose is really to just use my imagination, when it actually works.... to come up with unconventional solutions to problems, mostly in the form of building a better firearm. Learning to be a master gunsmith and eventually move my way into the manufacture and sales of superior equipment and ammunition is really the only thing I see myself actively working towards. Everything else like learning to play several instruments or learning to build fireworks will likely be more of a hobby than anything else.

My dream was to make friends and share my opinions with others; things I have accomplished thanks to sweet people like you, Miss Eni.

Eniitan : I wasn't really all that bummed out. In fact, I felt much more freedom. There were times my head felt like a heating pad because of all the hair. Having the long hair during the summer wasn't pretty. However, I am currently trying to go after another dream: Becoming a polyglot. I want to learn some languages. Only time will tell if I can achieve this dream.

m0ssb3rg935 : Yeah that's the thing. As we grown up and think more on many things about life. We broaden our horizon of thoughts and see what else we can do with them imagination is a very good one to and to have a well. We have to learn certain things to unlock unknown things. And I think....thats what you did with yourself. Finding about something else and what is more to you with your thoughts. I hope this didn't go off topic in a way or not sounded right. If so please tell me.

Mega Mewtwo: Oh. That is a very good thing indeed. Yeah having long hair has its limits to certain things sadly. So its a good thing you cut it off to how you felt it would fit you. Oh and good luck to trying to get to your new dream. ^-^

I don't know if I would call it a "childhood dream", but for a while, I was wanting to get into game design as a career. When I got into college, I realized that I do not have the ability to do coding particularly well. While I have no clue if I will ever be able to get into that field of work in the future, right now I'm just trying to find any sort of job that would allow me to work on or with a computer; perhaps something more within the field of clerical work, since I've since found out that I do have a knack for that sort of stuff. I also wouldn't mind working with numbers and mathematics, because I find that sort of work personally satisfying.

Well I probably still could be a baseball player if I tried, I play a lot it's just that I never had the time to join a team or anything. I tried to join my high school one all 4 years but was too busy to even finish applying and in college I could never find the person to go to until it was too late, but I could still do it next year in the college that I'm in and maybe play for a small team.

HalfTurret : Oh that sounds like an interesting dream. Yeah that's the case when we dream about something. It either works to out benefit or it may not be the right thing for us. Thus we have to go to a different approach about it. And choose something else. I really do you find what you want to do in life come true. Don't rush these things. It can get annoying when something like that wouldn't go our way. I wish you all the best for what you look for in life job wise. :/

A childhood dream... yeah, I had one. I wanted to work as a game designer for a game company. Guess I'm about to accomplish that dream someday (as a hobby only) since I'm working on my own, with the help of other people who have been interested in joining the project, on a free adventure puzzle game.

My childhood dream was:"I want to be a doctor!" Today I haven't changed my dream completely. Today I want to become a psychologist and a psychiatrist. I'm very interested in human behavior, and I love helping people out. It's a hard job, I know, but I'm up to the challenge.

It's still a bit too early to think about it. I'll think about it more when the time comes. For the time being I'll simply enjoy my childhood (you're only young once!). You see, big sis, I have many dreams, many goals, and it's really hard to decide. Should I travel to Japan, France or England? Should I be a psychologist, psychiatrist, video game developer or something else? We'll see with time.
