I was never fully on the hype train for Overwatch, but I did want to play a Blizzard game and didn't want to pay monthly fees for Warcraft so here I am. I went into Overwatch knowing next to nothing about the game, having only watched one short video of the game being played by Markiplier which pretty much showed nothing, so when I played it for the first time, everything was new to me. After playing the game for a few hours I realized that there were plenty of things I did not like about the game but it was still really fun.

Might as well start off with some if the things I did not like about it. The controls were way off for me. I play with a controller and the movement just did not feel right. I messed around with the sensitivity going from 15 all the way to 85 and could not find a point where the movement flowed smoothly and it was a pain at times but didn't have any negative effects on the gameplay and how well you perform. The other thing I didn't like had to do with match setup. It could have been something with my game or whatever but sometimes ill be playing against AI, play a few matches, and then all of a sudden, without even leaving to the menu, im randomly playing with people and I had no idea. Just some minor inconveniences though.

GRAPHICS: 9/10

The graphics are really well made, whether it’s the characters, the environments, or the animations and videos, everything is full of color and detail and that's a good reason to like the game because you can enjoy looking at it, even though most of it is really quick, it flows nicely and you can enjoy it. That’s just about it really, it’s a colorful and well made game so for graphics, the game will get a 9 out of 10.

SOUND: 10/10

The sounds of the game are quite good, whether it’s the effects, the music, or the voice acting. The music is great, the theme song is really nice and already has a few remixes that are great. The normal sounds that you hear as you play are good, and the voices I would say are the best part. The game has a nice list of dialogue and sayings, and some of the voices are really cool. The different sounds work together in harmony to make a nice experience and for a grade, sound will get a perfect 10 out of 10.

ADDICTIVENESS: 8/10

If you like FPS games, then this is really one that you should play. When it comes to FPS games, it’s less of CoD and Battlefield and more of Team Fortress 2 and Star Wars Battlefront which makes it better because in many cases it gives a nice clean slate to work with and room for surprise. The games are quick paced and you will never be in the same situation twice, and with each character having their own attacks and such, it will be like starting the game all over again when you play with each one so instead of playing normally, you’re basically going to be trying something new each time so there’s a reason to keep playing. The game was already fun, and competitive play was recently added so that adds even more to the game and gives more of a reason to keep playing and to get better. Overall, this aspect will get an 8 out of 10 for being a blast.

STORY: 8/10

First of all, there isn’t much to the story that’s actually in the game because the story was put out there before the game was released as a way to promote the game in various formats. The idea of Overwatch is basically a war with machines when robots basically started turning against society just like in Terminator, and Overwatch is basically a task force that was designed to restore the peace and defeat all the robots. If there was more that was actually in the game, I think I might have liked it a bit more, but the story that’s been released already has been fine and for a grade gets an 8 out of 10.

DEPTH: 7/10

Honestly I wouldn’t say that the game has that much, but of course, the game is still very young, having only been out for a month and there’s still new stuff being added like how Competitive Play was just added, which added a lot to the depth factor. For starters, you have a couple different types of game modes which can be played against other players or AI and a nice collection of well made maps. There’s also an amazing cast of characters, roughly 20, who each have their own stash of attacks and skills. That’s it for the depth, but I’m positive that there will be more coming out later on, and having the competitive play put in has really boosted this aspect, but if the game could be played offline against AI, that could have helped boost it even more. Overall, depth gets a 7 out of 10.

DIFFICULTTY: 5/10

The game has varying levels of difficulty depending on who you are playing against, who you are playing as, and how quick you are. If you are playing against the AI, the game can be very easy, in fact for me, it’s the easiest FPS that I have ever played when it came to bots. I was able to quickly learn the controls for Soilder 76 and over the course of 3 matches eliminated about 45 enemies and haven’t died one. The most I ever died in one match against bots was twice. Against real players it can be a challenge depending on how much you have played, how well you know the map and controls, and how quick you are. Overall, difficulty is right down the middle because it can be just as easy as it is hard and this aspect gets a 5.

OVERALL: 8.5/10

Overall the game is great. There’s only a few minor things that I’m not too fond about that probably won’t even affect others much, and once the Competitive Play really starts to kick off, the game will reach out to it’s true potential and will get even better. If you like FPS games, I would definitely suggest this game over others such as CoD because it’s worth it and for an overall grade, I’m going to give Overwatch an 8.5 out of 10.

Other than your endless sentences (take time to catch your breath!), this was a good review. I liked how you gave a good idea of what kind of shooter this game is; I find this point essential in order to clearly describe the game to other players.

I have only played the Beta. But I do think the game is great as well. When I get my PC this is definitely going to be on the to buy list. The game is very addictive and fun to play with your friends. My favorite character is tracer. I would definitely choose this game over CoD, something I do agree on with you.
