Before I start, I have to thank YouTube throughout the years of helping me finding new types of music to listen to. The first genre was Progressive Rock. I've found bands like Pink Floyd, King Crimson, and the Electric Light Orchestra. I've been listening to Progressive Rock since 2010 to today. Then around 2012, I've discovered Hardcore Techno or Gabber. The first ever track I've listened to was "Bad Dreams (Remix)" by DJ Isaac. I was searching bad dreams on YouTube one night for no apparent reason and came across this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8g8dwhAfkc You can tell by seeing Chucky the Killer Doll on the cover was what caught my attention. Right away, I didn't get into the genre. I then started listening to other gabber tracks. After this, I was hooked. I've found cool compilations for this genre such as Thunderdome (which is my favorite), Terrordrome, and Masters of Hardcore. Now I don't want to get into too much detail because this is not what the whole thread was about.

Now on to the new genre discovery. I can't believe this took me three days to write this because that was how many days is when I discovered it. To be honest, I really didn't find this genre in three days. As in matter of fact, it was a song that I've found on late 2015. I saw a vine of a kid crying in a weird way that was remixed to some 80's sounding music (you can probably see where I am going with this). The song sounded interesting, but I didn't hesitate right away to find the name of the song. Then three days ago (I've discovered the name before then) I heard the song in its full state. I wanted to know what this genre was so I searched up the artist and saw the genre's name. It is called Vaporwave. I have to say that Vaporwave is a genre that I can not fully understand. The genre happened to originate in Internet communities around the early 2010s. It seems to symbolize a nostalgic fascination with retro cultural aesthetics, video games, technology, post-modern Japanese culture and advertising. Vaporwave uses styles of commercial and popular music such as lounge, smoove jazz and elevator music. It is typically centered around the 1980s, 1990s and early to mid 2000s. Not only is Vaporwave a genre, it happens to be a meme. So, what does a vaporwave song consist of? Well it is basically a whole song slowed down and a certain part is looped a couple or few times. In a nutshell, it is basically 80s music all over again. It sounds boring does it? But, the funny thing is, I... actually like it. I couldn't believe it myself, because I was born in 1996 and here I am having an interest in "sort of" 80s music. Now vaporwave just doesn't use 80s type music. It can use 90s and early 2000s, but it seems many vaporwave artists seem to use music from that era. So I've got a few playlist of vaporwave mixes if you want to check out

I own no credit to these playlists:

Primetime Tonight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXsZYlqk2dU

Evening Lineup: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FSD3KbJH5B8

Tv Glide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=971l3w-eK9M

Macintosh Plus - 420: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cU8HrO7XuiE (this was the song I've first heard on the vine)

Now I am not encouraging Vizzed users out there to like Vaporwave music. You don't have to. I just wanted to share my thoughts on my discovery and wanted to hear what you think. Also sorry for a this huge post. lol

You have entered a  strange new genre, one that I can't exactly tell if people enjoy legitimately, or ironically. But this post was actually pretty informative. This genre has began growing on me too.  It feels like half if it is some kind of strange meme, or joke, or whatever. But then some of these have a decent amount of effort put into them. This is a reversal of what made Alvin and the Chipmunks popular. I think I like this music? I do know I can't stop listening to these. Thanks for the playlists!

I wonder what the character limit on this thing is.

(Guys, how do I switch off text highlighting?)

Either way.
Vapourwave is not "just a genre". It is a state of mind.
A state of relaxation. A state of driving down a midnight road with 80's music playing.
A state of floating around in pink space, with Roman busts floating with you.
A state of...

(Just felt like typing this out.)

Just a progressive rock recommendation:

Godspeed You! Black Emperor is pretty amazing.

I'm really happy that people on here like vaporwave. It's become one of my favorite genres lately and it can be done perfectly pretty often. The style, the aesthetics, and the entire concept behind it. Anti-consumerist messages left behind a glitchy, abandoned consumerist world. It's so beautiful. Here's a few of my favorites.

There are a few ways to do this, or so I have fun. Make a Pandora station, and add a different variety of music. I have noticed this will make more new bands pop up.  There are many Internet radio apps you can play with. Youtube is another good one, just let it take you where it may. Google some of your favorite genres, and you will find sub genre's.
