So Fire Emblem and Tactics Ogre are both tactical RPGs, which one do you prefer?

Personally I prefer Fire Emblem because it's faster and has likable characters.

I chose Tactics Ogre despite having so little experience with either, but I did so because I liked the system behind Tactics Ogre best for what little time I had with each. Fire Emblem seemed more focused on battle alone while Tactics Ogre seemed to focus on not only battle, but preparation for the battle by hiring various units as well as capturing strategic points in battle and using cards etc.

I also chose Tactics Ogre.
The Ogre series is more familiar to me, so I am a bit more familiar with the story line and I feel like TO plays a bit better than FE.

I have way more experience with Fire Emblem, and Tactics Ogre was a game that I just couldn't get myself to like. I picked up a GBA game of Tactics Ogre at a Goodwill for a $1, box and all (pretty sweet deal, also found Zelda: The Minish Cap, but that's another story), and I played for around 2 hours, and I can't remember a single thing that happened, it was that unmemorable. I prefer Fire Emblem because of the permanent death aspect of it, even though sometimes I reset whenever I lose more than one character. It is also full of waifus... oh wait, that's probably a thing we should stay away from that on this forum.

tyranit : I reject FE Fates' existence because of the waifu aspect. All the other games usually have nothing to do with that sort of thing, so I don't consider Fates to be an entry in the series at all. It's tresh.

Anyways, I didn't play tactics ogre for long but it was really hard to get into it and that's probably why it wasn't too memorable for me. Fire Emblem makes you have an emotional attachment to the characters so it actually hurts to lose them.
