EDIT: MAJOR SPOILERS. If you haven't done Genocide, don't read this. This means you, RDay. :V
So last night, I was playing the Genocide route in Undertale trying to fight sans. Now, one thing is clear about this. Sans's goal is to stop the player from resetting the game, so that everyone can finally be happy. So, with this in mind, I had thought that if I let sans live, he will continue to be miserable with every single reset that I make. Moreover, every single person who has played the game and has reset it will also bring him misery.
Sans is a videogame character who is trying to escape what he was created for, and what will inevitably happen to him. But the way he goes about this is to directly confront the player and forcefully try to make him stop. But the player has all of the control over the game, and the reset button. Surely he realizes that this sort of thing is futile, right?
Whether he lives or dies, the player always wins. Then, the player does it again. And again. And again. Only for Sans fulfill his purpose each and every time. Does this make tobyfox a terrible person for creating this character, or at least the Genocide route?
At this point, is the developer of the game not the REAL monster here, rather than the player? He made this possible with the intention of having people do it. He understands that sans's fate is inevitable, yet he created him anyways.
So why, then, do people get so much flak for taking the Genocide route? It's intended to happen. tobyfox made it available because he wanted it to happen, so that's why it's fine to do. Am I wrong?
