Since the current Vizzed Board is well over 10 years old now, I thought it'd be fun to come up with a way to show users things that took place on Vizzed Board each day on that day 10 years ago. So here are things I could display
-The most active user (or users) on this day 10 years ago
-The most active thread (or threads) on this day 10 years ago

I could also do a 5 year thing with it. Seeing who was active I think will be really cool because a lot of the time it'll be users who no one is familiar with and most of the time it'll be users who no longer use the site. The most active thread will be cool as well because it'll give us a glimpse of the internet 5 or 10 years ago and what we were discussing.

Now the question is, how would I go about displaying this information? Would it have its own little box on the forum index page? Would it have its own page? Or would it be its own thread where I post that information each day?

Also, how many of you would even be interested in something like this? Personally I think it'd be awesome but maybe that's just because I was part of the site during this time so I'm biased.

Simply put, yes. Yes you should. Because this is a cool idea.

Davideo7 : I think this sounds so cool I have not been on the site long enough to know the things talked about 5 or 10 years ago. I think it should get it's own thread where you would post the info everyday.

I think this is a pretty cool idea David. As far as displaying it goes, I think either having it have it's own little box on the forum index page would be the best or letting it have it's own separate page. I don't think it should have it's own thread, but that's just me.

Sonicolmstead : As of next year, the previous Vizzed Board that I have an archive for still will be 15 years old so I can add that to the mix for "This Day on Vizzed 15 Years Ago". That was before you were born so that'll really be a sneak peak into a world that you didn't get to witness.

zanderlex : I could actually do a combination of a page and a thread. Basically the results would be available on a page and then in the thread a staff member would simply just copy and paste the contents from the page to the thread each day.

I'm all in for this. Too bad that Vizzed is too new so we could see again the April Fool's layout, this time being used for real 24/7

It would be interesting to see which users where active by then. Rumours said that David hasn't always been the top poster on the site, that users were capable of averaging 15 posts an hour several days straight... Facts like this could be nice to note. After all, Vizzed is a retro-loving site, am I right?

About how to do it... I think a thread would be the best idea. This would make it easier to include screenshots, if able. I can do fine with a page, but more inexperienced users will access this feature more easily if it's a thread.

That's true that I haven't always been the top poster. Users like MichaelVash7886 and WvoulfeXX have had higher post counts than me at some point. John actually had the highest post count for years I think in the early days. It took me a long time to eventually pass him and that's because he completely went inactive. legacyme3 and geeogree even had a higher post count then me at one point but more briefly I think.

One legendary name that should not be forgotten is WvoulfeXX though. He did what was thought to be impossible. On the old board, he accumulated I think 2000 posts in just 3 days. I think the most posts he was able to pull off in a 24 hours period was around 750 posts or something ridiculous like that. It was done during a time when that board was averaging a lot of posts though per a day.

Providing a screenshot would require a little more time but definitely doable. The only thing is that it wouldn't really be possible (or not easy anyway) to show a screenshot of the top thread with the look of the site from that time.

I love this idea! I might also be a bit biased since I was around for all of this time too. I don't see much point in doing a 15 years ago section because there wasn't much going on way back then. That's up to you though.

I like the 10 and 5 year options. Both would be great. I'm sure I'll see a fair bit of myself on these updates

I really like the idea for the whole "On This Day".

I think we should also have 1 year ago added to the 10 years ago and 5 years ago.

Davideo7 : It sounds like an excellent idea, and it's an idea that most of us are pretty interested in. I'd be interested in seeing a time capsule of what people were talking about in 2005, honestly.

geeogree : Are you saying that because you weren't part of it 15 years ago? lol . Actually the boards before this one were pretty active and I'd say they were more active than this board was until up to 6 years ago. It was rare to see the posts per a day go below 100 and it was common to see it at around 250. Keep in mind that this was when forums were at their prime and users didn't have a lot of other things to do on the internet except post on forums. It also helped that we had a lot of really really active users and I also had help from real life friends who helped me keep the place active.

Davideo7 : well, I think you were the only one that is still active that was around back then. I saw some familiar names on your site even though. XK and NSNick come to mind. They're still "around" but on different sites. Crazy to think that they were active that long ago. I guess I was to but on Acmlm's instead.

It might be neat to see some stuff from back then too but it won't be as relevant or interesting a lot of people here as the more current stuff from this version of Vizzed.

geeogree : Pretty much everyone on my forum back then originated from Acmlm's in some way. That's actually probably why it was so active, I recruited a lot of users from either Acmlm's board and from another board that used the acmlm engine which had gone down.

It'd still be pretty cool for everyone to see what things were discussed back then though, even if they're not going to be familiar with most of the names.

that's up to you... I guess it depends on how much extra work it would be to look up 3 dates instead of 2. I'm not completely uninterested but I'm less interested in that site and more interested in the current one 5 and 10 years ago.

That sounds awesome, please do this If you can. I imagine this will be absolutely hilarious if you do it, especially the one where you act like someone from 10 years ago......it will be my time sir ^^

geeogree : Most likely the 15 year thing I wouldn't add until next year since the previous Vizzed Board wont be 15 years old until sometime next year.

Davideo7 : Yeah, normally when places do "On this day ?? years ago, they normally do like 10 years ago, 5 years ago, and 1 year ago, but hey, it's a thought. If a year sound good, then you can add it, but a year doesn't sound too good to add, that's alright, really up to you.
