I don't know what happened, I just woke up today with my leg in a lot of pain. It's like there's a bolt of sharp pain that's concentrated into a tiny point in my upper thigh and I feel it almost all the time, and pretty much whenever I move or try to bend my leg in any direction. This is the first time this ever happened with my leg but feels about the same as what happened to my neck during the summer.

I have no idea what could have caused it while I was sleeping or what I should do about it, any thoughts?

I' m not a doctor as I am a forecaster/biologist. But it sounds like it could be a sciatic nerve. Sciatic nerves start in the back and run down in the leg. When a nerve gets inflamed or pinched. It can cause severe pain in the lower legs.  You mentioned it happened to your neck too. That makes me believe you have a pinched nerve in your spine somewhere that effects you neck and leg.  That is something you might want to see a doctor about.

tornadocam : Well it happened in my neck from doing launrdy and was a year ago, so I doubt any of it could be related. I looked it up and it says the thing you describe would affect the entire leg so I doubt that could be it, but thanks.

I have a small update on this, so far some of the pain has gone away but has been replaced with some sort of numbness. I'll go to a doctor on Friday if I need to.

Random pain is one thing, but numbness is a pretty serious symptom. Did you ever get it checked out or did it eventually go away on it's own?
