When you are mining and you find gold, what is its main purpose to you? Do you use it for your weapons? Do you make blocks and use them to build with?

In my current world, I have almost no need for it, aside for getting exp from getting gold ingots, I pretty much only use gold now to make Golden Apples.

zanderlex : I use my gold to make Gold Blocks for building since I find gold a lot and it's not really useful for anything else besides making gold apples. Also because a Gold Block takes less space in my chest since it's 9 gold ingots per block.

I find gold useless but if I had to use it I guess I would make gold apples but besides that I just hate gold it's way too rare if you ask me and even when you find it if you make the wrong decision and make armor or tools it breaks so fast I rather just use leather. Sorry for the little rant but I gold in minecraft

When I get enough gold, I smelt it, turn it into blocks, and I build an enchanting room for my house with a gold floor because it looks pretty fancy and it looks like I'm rich.

Honestly, I don't use gold for tools or weapons as it's durability is the lowest of the mine-able ores.  I use it primarily for donkey, horse and mule breeding through the crafting of golden carrots with gold nuggets as it a much cheaper alternative to golden apples.  Other uses include making golden apples with ingots in order to cure zombie villagers, and the fabled Notch apple made with gold blocks. Unfortunately, the makers have decided to remove the notch apple recipe in the 1.9 update  .  I have used gold blocks as part of the foundation for beacons, with 1 final use that I do not usually employ due to it's rarity, the gold blocks themselves provide a nice "bling" effect to any and all structures that incorporate them.

If I'm playing something like UHC or survival without health regen then gold is the single most important ore to get. Golden apples are your only form of healing.

Otherwise it's just decoration or useful for potions.
