First of all, I like horror books, mainly, and also sci-fi. And sometimes - sometimes - I will settle for romance. I have already been recommended a certain book, but I am looking into all the books I might want to read before I go and get it. The book that's been recommended:

(Chaos Walking #1The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness

Since the library is so far away, about 15-20 miles at least (I live so far from town), I am seeing what all I might want to read before I take off. So, any suggestions? Remember, horror and sci-fi, and sometimes romance.

Thanks!

TheTrueUlti :
I have two recommendations for you, but both of them are sci-fi. Note: I am really bad at explaining books without spoilers, so I will give a very basic description. If you are interested, then Google is your friend. The first book is Dune. Probably my favorite science fiction book, Dune is about the son of a Duke trying to take revenge on another noble family after setting a trap for his father. Paul, the main character, begins to develop many unique powers due to his heritage and special training. He becomes a religious figure on the planet and is worshiped by the natives. He becomes one of them and plans his revenge with their help.

The second is the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series. This science fiction series is also very comedic with random references and ideas. You'll be reading and think "wtf? Really?" The series follows a survivor of Earth's destruction, Arthur Dent, and his savior and friend, Ford Perfect. They go on a journey through the stars encountering many battles, finding friends and making enemies. If there's one thing you must know for this series, it's that you always need to bring a towel (<-- book quote).

The Prince of Thorns, Mark Lawrence. It's the first in a grim fantasy trilogy about the former sheltered prince of a hold taking back his birthright and reuniting the broken empire, an empire which has been riven with greed and distrust for over a century... Worth a read in my opinion. It's really interesting to see how his character grows throughout the trilogy.

Deadhouse Gates, Steven Erikson It's the second in an epic fantasy series that stretches ten volumes but I felt that you didn't really need to have read the first book in order to understand this one. Sure, you may have a little more understanding of the universe from the first book but this one doesn't follow the same characters and dumps you onto a different continent in the world. This book actually brought me to tears, something not a lot of books can do.

The Nekropolis Archives: Omnibus, Tim Waggoner. Three books in one handy, if beefy, volume. It's, again, fantasy but mixes with the murder mystery genre and rides close to sci-fi on a few occasions with the fantasy technology (living computers, for example). It's a wild read full of inuendo and absurdity. If you can imagine an intelligent zombie - who used to be a cop on Earth - working as a PI in the five circles of Hell (one for each point of the star in a pentagram, naturally) and find that idea interesting then this book might be for you. The first book in the trilogy is Nekropolis if it turns out the collected edition is not available.

I personally recommend you read Warriors by Erin Hunter. It has a nice story, good characters, and quite a few good plot twists. So give it a read if you want, I'm pretty sure you won't regret it.

If you like sci fi, then I would definitely suggest Enders Game. I never read it myself but owned it many different times meaning to read it and I loved the movie.

Chindogu: I'll look into The Prince of Thorns and Deadhouse Gates, definitely. However, I think I have already read The Nekropolis Archives: Omnibus, as I recognize the summary you gave -- you know, about futuristic technology and all that -- but I will see if I can find out more to make sure.

18mlivingston : It would help if you gave a little more detail, maybe a summary? If not, then I might just assume it is just about some kind of ancient war or something, given the title.

zanderlex : What a coincidence!! I was recommended that book this morning! I was shown the cover and read the summary. It seems like a great book, I will definitely take a look!

TheTrueUlti : I'm not very good at explaining things, so I took the back summery of the first book to see if it catches your interest.

Fire Alone Can Save Our Clan...

For generations, four Clans of wild cats have shared the
forest according to the laws laid down by their warrior ancestors. But
the ThunderClan cats are in grave danger, and the sinister ShadowClan
grows stronger every day. Noble warriors are dying - and some deaths are
more mysterious than others.

In the midst of this turmoil appears an ordinary house cat
named Rusty... who may turn out to be the bravest warrior of them all.

18mlivingston : Seems interesting, although a little typical, with the small-time individual (house-cat-Rusty) being "chosen" (expressively, of course, not literally) to be the prophetic warrior. Though as of modern times, there is proving to have more than what you'd expect, so I will look into that book, as well.

Great, I hope you end up liking those books if you decide to read them. Though, I should mention one thing about the Broken Empire trilogy before you read it. You see, it truly is deserving of a 'trigger warning' as death, rape, violence agaisnt children, and torture are all present at different points throughout.

There are also graphic descriptions of violence in Deadhouse Gates but nothing so disturbing as in Prince of Thorns.

Sweet, I should warn you though, "Ender" has like 20 or more books in the series, but the 1st one if the iconic one, I wouldn't really read past the first couple if I was you unless you get really interested in it.

I recommend the Maximum Ride series.

You're 18, and I read  them a year ago, so i think you'd enjoy them.

They aren't your typical book lol.

I recommend you read The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey. It's a pretty good sci-fi book where an alien race invades the Earth.

I also recommend reading The Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke. It's not a sci-fi book, but it's one of my favorite books ever. It has to do with this gang in Italy. It's fictional, by the way.

Barathemos : Sounds like an interesting title. What is it about? Like, in a small summary? Or, maybe just take the back of the book and post the summary from there to here?

RDay13 : I enjoy reading and watching extra-terrestrial-type Sci-Fi, so I will almost definitely get that book. And about The Thief Lord: an Italian gang, eh? Is it some kind of mobster/mafia-like scenario? I loved playing The Godfather and Mafia, which are mob/mafia based games. I, however, am not into basic run-of-the-mill street gang stuff like that "Grove Street" stuff or whatever... Anyway, I am going the library in a few days, so please explain the "gang" concept to me.

TheTrueUlti : It's basically about some teenage kids who are genetically modified to be half birds. It's pretty science-fiction but it's pretty interesting. They basically have to go around saving people, and also saving themselves, from the scientists who want their DNA in order to do more tests.

I can only give a vague description but it's a pretty complex series. I'd google it for more info.

TheTrueUlti : It's about a group of orphans that live in this movie theater and steal things from people. They sell these things to this big bad boss of theirs and that's how they get their money and food from. I don't want to go into more detail, because I might end up spoiling the book.
