Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl were released for the Nintendo DS system in the year 2007. They both also started Generation 4 of the Pokemon franchise. Generation 4 is my favorite Generation of all-time. Why, you ask? Let's find out in the review.

Graphics - 9/10

The graphics in this game are amazing, especially for an early Nintendo DS game. You can barely see any pixels at all anymore, and my favorite thing is the overworld. It looks like 3D models but sprites put together and I love it. It's like Pokemon X and Pokemon Y in 2007. There's not really much else I can say about this category other than the things I have already said. They're amazing.

Sound - 9/10

The music in this game is very enjoyable as well. Generation 4 contains some of my favorite Pokemon music, such as Giratina Battle Theme, Champion Battle Theme, Hearthome City, and many more! Each Pokemon continues to use a cry that distinguishes them from other Pokemon, making them unique in their own way. The overworld sounds remain the same as far as I know.

Addictiveness - 10/10

Since this IS a Pokemon game, you will be playing for a long while and enjoying every second of it. The only problem I have with playing for a while is the speed of Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl. Everything felt really slow and awkward, but luckily, Pokemon Platinum, Pokemon Heartgold, and Pokemon Soulsilver resolved this issue. And to make this better, starting with this Generation, the internal battery no longer runs out quickly! So now you can play as long as you want! Yesss!!!

Story - 10/10

The story in Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl are amazing, to sum it up. A huge upgrade from past Generations, in my opinion. A new villainous team, naming themselves Team Galactic, are trying to create a new world. Their leader Cyrus promises them that this world will benefit them all, but in reality, Cyrus just wants the world for himself. Team Galactic searches for the Legendary Pokemon hidden in the 3 lakes of Sinnoh. Mesprit, Azelf, and Uxie. The Legendary Pokemon of the lakes contain the keys required to summon Dialga, the one responsible for time, and Palkia, the one responsible for space. It is up to you to stop them. In Pokemon Platinum, however, things take a change. In the beginning, there was Arceus. Arceus created everything in the universe, and it was good. He created the first beings. Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina. They were very good. Except for Giratina. Giratina is the one responsible for anti-matter and was banished to the Distortion World. In Pokemon Platinum, while Cyrus is summoning Dialga and Palkia, Giratina intervenes and rips a hole through time and space. Once all of the problems are restored by you, Cyrus gets himself stuck in the Distortion World and is never seen or heard from again. That's pretty dark for a Pokemon game, and I love it.

Depth - 10/10

Generation 4 added 107 Pokemon to the list, making the total amount 493. That's a lot of Pokemon. Of course, not nearly as much as we have today, but it's still a lot. This will keep you playing for hours on end. And even when you have completed the game, you can still use wireless capabilities, such as the underground, which I love to death. You used to be able to go to the Global Terminal in Jubilife City and battle and trade with other people over the internet, but sadly, Nintendo shut down internet capabilities for all Nintendo DS and Nintendo Wii games. At least it was amazing while it lasted, right?

Difficulty - 8/10

Again, being a Pokemon game, the difficulty usually depends on the team of Pokemon you have made. The Gym Leaders in Sinnoh can be tough, but not nearly as tough as the Gym Leaders in Johto or Hoenn. The Elite 4 in Sinnoh can also become a small problem, but with the right strategy they can be taken down swiftly. The big problem comes whenever you get to the Champion of Sinnoh. This Champion, in my opinion, is the toughest Champion in the series. It took me many tries to defeat her, and when I did, it was glorious.

Overall - 9.6/10

Like I said in the beginning of this review, Generation 4 is my favorite Generation of all time, despite the flaws it has. Every Generation has it's flaws, but I think this one is my favorite. Yeah, Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl are slow, but the rest of the games in this Generation make up for it. Although, if the final core game in Generation 6 (Z?) impresses me by a lot, then Generation 6 will most likely become my favorite Generation instead of this one.I hope you enjoyed this review.

LunarDarkness2 : This was actually my first Pokemon game. Although I don't agree with all of the scores you gave, this is still a pretty good review. For example, the difficulty score is subjective, but I personally didn't have any major trouble with the battles. When I was much younger, the thing I had the most trouble with was the puzzles! It's still a great review anyway. I wish I could play it again, but I just can't bring myself to delete my old save file from 2009. It just holds too many memories of me trading with my classmates and things like that.

Wow, this was an excellent review even though you haven't gone into PhD details. You compare the game to past games, showing its strengths and I really feel like you loved the game. High 5!
