My favorite Mario RPG is Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga because the story and the gameplay just got along very well which turned the game into a brilliant masterpiece. All the other ones after Superstar Saga besides Bowser Inside Story just wasn't enjoyable as it but I'm sure it all comes down to your preferences. I've never got the chance to play Paper Mario and The Thousand Year Door but as far as I'm aware I can't stand the newer Paper Mario games. Paper Mario for the N64 is decent but it had a lot of work to do to catch up to Superstar Saga.

I'm going with the original, since it and the first Paper Mario are the only ones I've played. I never got to finish Paper Mario either since I was borrowing it and they freaked out after maybe a week thinking I would never give it back or something...

My favorite Mario RPG is Bowser's Inside Story. I enjoy every parts of the game, and it is really fun. I love the new giant battle system they added to the game, too. Plus the final boss theme is the best theme ever. I played the rest of the Mario and Luigis, and they're good too. I barely started Paper Jam, but so far it's well. Who knows, once I finish it, I might end up with a new favorite, we never know...

Mine would be Mario & Luigi: Super Star Saga considering it's the only Mario RPG I have ever played so I have nothing to compare it to. Though I plan to get Legend of the Seven Stars sometime down the road. So then I'll be able to judge what I like with more reason.
