If you like golf video games, then you are sure to love Winning Putt. It basically takes all of your favorite things about a golf game and gives it more of a multiplayer environment. The game was released less than 6 hours ago for PC through an open beta and I’m already addicted to it. I found out about the game just 2 hours after it was released and decided to give it a shot based on all the cool features that were listed on the games website. It’s not a steam game, it’s one of those games you need to download right from the developers like Smite and Lol, and it’s a pretty big game as well, with everything totaling about 4 GB or more but if you like Golf, it’s totally worth it, especially because of all the features the game has.

GRAPHICS 8/10

The graphics are about what you would expect from any good sporting game, they make it look real. When you aren’t playing a round of golf, it looks kind of like what an RPG game would look like, you get this town square that you can move around in with other players who are online and the colors and detail here and great. When you are on the course, everything looks realistic. The grass and trees look real, the characters look like they would in any sports games, and all the hazards such as sand and water look as scary as they can. All these little things work together to make the game look as realistic as it can, and for that, the graphics grade will be an 8 out of 10.

SOUND 10/10

The sound is amazing, everything from the voices to the music to the regular sounds of the game all match up perfectly. Of course, there are some times where you can clearly tell that the sounds, such as rain or clapping are a bit off, but they sound great. The soundtrack is really cool and plays some nice calming music almost all the time and the voice acting is great. You can even choose the voice for your character, and the voices of everyone else in the game are just a bit off, but they sound great. As for the regular sounds of the game, I already mentioned that they might sound fake at times, but there’s always some sound going on which make it sound like you are really there, whether it’s the sound of spectators or the weather. The sounds in general are amazing and for a grade, this aspect is going to get a perfect 10 out of 10.

ADDICTIVENESS 10/10

There’s so much to do, whether you simply like playing golf just for playing golf or you want to compete, there’s always something for everyone. There’s a whole leveling system and currency system where you start as a nobody and as you play you get exp and all sorts of fun upgrades and you get gold to buy all sorts of fun things. There’s so many different types of game modes as well. You have friendly matches and also betting matches where you can bet gold on the outcome. You have challenges and ranked matches, and then you have professional tournaments. It’s just a random mismatch of fun waiting to happen for both the casual golf gamer and the competitive gamer. Beyond that, when you are not playing a round, you also have a town to explore and actually move around with which is not something you see in other sports games. The game is so much fun and you will never be out of things to do, so for a grade, addictiveness is going to get another perfect 10 out of 10.

STORY N/A

It’s a golf game, what is there to say about a story? All you have is various challenges and tournaments but that’s about as close as you can get to a story so this section won’t be getting a grade.

DEPTH 9/10

Boy does the game have a lot to offer, whether it’s the intense amount of character customization, the number of game modes, or the selection of course, there’s always something to do and once you think you saw it all, you find that there’s more. Plus, let’s not forget that the game was just put into beta today, so there’s still a lot more to be added in the future. You have 6 different types of game modes, and most of them, such as the tournaments, can encompass many, many different matches, plus just getting into a tournament will require you to have already played a ton of rounds, so there’s a lot of golfing to be done. There are 7 different course for you to choose from, which all range from very easy to very hard, and some of them being unlocked as you level up. Lastly you have the customization and character stuff, each player has their own powers, their own skills, and their own types, and beyond that there’s also a long list of statistics as well. On top of that, you can change everything about yourself from your clothes to your equipment and you even have things such as food, and caddies that you get to work with. That’s a lot of stuff and for that, the depth will get a grade of 9 out of 10.

DIFFICULTY 8

This is a golf game that we are talking about, possibly the hardest kind of sports game that you can play, plus you start off your career with literally no skills at all so when you first start, you can be very very bad, even if you are already good at golf games before playing this one. In order to get better, you just need to keep on playing so that you can level up your characters stats, but even if you have all your skills maxed out, you need your own skills as well because you need to pick the right club, aim the right way, put the right amount of power, and everything else in between so it can be quite hard at times and for that, the grade for difficulty is going to be an 8.

OVERALL 9.3/10

If you are a fan of golf games, then you will want to play this game. Yet, if you are a fan of golf games, you will still be surprised by all of the different things that this game has to offer that you might not have seen in other golf game and that makes this one so much better than almost any other golf game that you can play. I have only played this game for a little bit but from all of the things that I have seen from actually playing the game and from all the things that I have read up on, I can tell that this will easily be my most favorite golf game of all time, and easily one of my favorite sports games as well. I’m pretty sure that the same can be said for you if you try it out also because it’s a lot of fun. Overall, I love the game and my grade for Winning Putt is going to be a 9.3 out of 10.

Wow, quite an impressive review for a game that "just" got out. You managed to show (pretty much) what seems like everything there is to know about it. Are the golf course "imaginary" or based on existing ones?

janus : I don't know any existing golf courses, even though I play other golf games, ao I wouldn't really know if they were based on anything real.

I'm already a pro at the game, amassed more than 20 hours in total and entered an official tournament, it's a lot of fun.
