So recently (and I use that word loosely as this was nearly a year ago now) I found something of an easter egg in Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life. Now I say "something of an easter egg" because it's kind of hard to miss, yet really easy to miss at the same time unless you're a long time fan of the series. So long time in fact that you'll miss it if you haven't played the very first game a few times.

So the easter egg happens only if you make specific choices, which I will list below. Please be aware that reading any farther will spoil parts of the game for you if you've never played it, or if you have played it, but never without marrying Nami.

Requirements:
-Marry anyone except Nami, then play until the year that Nami returns (chapter 3 I think. Possibly Year 3)

-Go to the bar at night before she returns (sadly I can't say what day or season, if it even matters) and you will trigger a cut scene of her return

-When the scene triggers and the others go out to greet her, choose one of the options that sends your character out to greet her as well

Now listen carefully to that background music: sound familiar? If you're a diehard fan it should! That's an instrumental version of a track from the original Harvest Moon! Now it took me a while to figure that out, as it's instrumental instead of a chiptune, and it's considerably slower, but after listening for a few moments it's undeniable that this is the tune from our beloved franchise's first entry, back from it's 16 bit days. I for one became ridiculously excited about this for some reason. It was very much unexpected, especially since the series had switched hands by that point (Victor to Marvelous), and it was really nice to see them honoring the game's heritage, even though they didn't have a hand in it. Also nice that they were even familiar with it. Maybe it was their way of reassuring long running fans that they had no intentions of wrecking their beloved franchise despite the radical changes made in AWL. Who knows?

So what was the last easter egg you found? Or maybe just a really cool easter egg that you found a long time ago? How did you find it? Share your stories about eggs!

Breath of Fire (up to IV at least) always finds a way to reference to past games. In II, the Monster Isle has a hut with Bo and Karn. In III you see characters like Bo, Mogu all around and a poster of Katt at the Coliseum. Finally, Momo is a master in IV, along with Bunyan.

In Crash Nitro Kart, there was an item available on the demo version which didn't make it to the final game. However, the item's icon is still seeable in the item roulette when breaking a ? Crate if you pause the game at the right moment. I managed to get it on only my fourth try, even though I was really aiming for something else that I discovered shortly before that by sheer luck.

I would post the screenshot, but currently the feature isn't working for me

zanderlex : That's an awful lot of references.

janus : See, continuity like that is always an amazing touch in a series. It's too bad developers don't use it more often. And though it's a bit different it reminds me of how in Banjo-Tooie you can visit Bottles' kids and see a poster for Perfect Dark hanging up. Both games were made by Rare. Again, a neat little inclusion that got me unreasonably excited, but I'll blame that on being a kid when I saw it...not that anyone believes that was the real reason.

EX Palen : I actually bought that game recently. What item was it, if you remember? I'm wanting to check that out now. Lol

Eirinn : Voodoo Doll. The name pretty much should give a hint of how it looks like.

The information I've found about it says that it should create a Team Frenzy-like effect. Good thing it was cut from the final game, it would be so overpowered, plus it would leave actual team races nonsensical.

Good hunting, Eirinn. I'm sure you can do it

Oh! Oh! I have one!

If you connect your Harvest moon: A wonderful life character to Friends of mineral town and then connect it to harvest moon DS, in the game you can get a special tomb stone for your character in a wonderful life! You have to have max stars or something, but I am fairly sure that on your birthday the character you married in AWL will ask you to join her as she visits your grave!

Also the fact that you can connect DS cute to friends of mineral town makes the choice of who to marry a lot easier! The guys not very cute at all...

It's a small easter egg, but I like that you can use the Bug Net in Zelda games to stop bosses in their tracks, and even damage them in some games.  I'm not sure what the first game to feature this was, but I'm glad it's stuck around.

My easter egg is small, but it's happened in almost all games I've played. When I am in a game where I can move around on a map, I find that most paths that go off the main road leads to an item, usually something like a healing item or a new weapon.  Sounds simple, but my brother was playing Ninja Gaiden 2, and I was pointing out all these little trails off the main road, and every time we found a item or weapon, he'd be flabbergasted at my find.

AnotherInuFan : Wait, you can connect Cute to FoMT and marry an FoMT character? Did I read that right?? And I love the tombstone thing too! Never got to see it but I heard of it and thought it was really cool. But that could potentially be creepy at the same time. "Come on honey, let's go visit your grave" o__o I mean she doesn't know it, but that's my grave from another Harvest life!

supernerd117 : Really? How did I never know of this? I remember that you could use your fishing rod to distract Ganondorf (Ganon? Idk) in Twilight Princess which was hilarious. Also another good easter egg: the ooCCoo in Twilight Princess? It's a hidden reference to the hexadecimal value of Link's tunic in the original Legend of Zelda.

elzath42191 : You know I recently noticed the same thing while playing Xeodrifter. The paths that branch off do seem to hold goodies usually. Like a little hint or something. Also speaking of continuity between unrelated games...what's with almost every RPG having a "slime" enemy near the start? And who decided slime was inherently evil?

In the level Busted Bayou in Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, you can find Samus' Gunship hidden in the trees by the first Kong letter. The implications of Samus still going around and doing stuff is always great, and it's even better that both the DKCR series, and Metroid Prime were made by the same team.

In Pokemon Stadium 2 in Smash Brothers Brawl, as well as Wii U; if you wait for the Ice transformation and pause in front of the little shack. Turn the camera to the left and you can see a picture of a cat on the wall inside of the shack...It's actually kinda cute. :3

I wonder what the character limit on this thing is.

Eirinn : I may not have my facts straight.  I thought it was the bug net.  I know you can do it in Skyward Sword with the bug net, at least.  And I know you can do something like it in other games.  But I thought that it was the bug net.  Maybe the item varies from game to game.

Eirin : You can totally do that. It's a total life saver because the guys in DS cute are UUUUUUUGGGGLLLLYYYY. Plus, it's better than when you connect it to DS because when you marry the girls from FoMT the game ends but if you marry a guy you can continue with your happy little life. Ask NeppyLeet about it, she knows more than I do. I've never actually had a DS that has the ability to play game boy advance games.

In Megaman Battle Network, there is a corrupted program that says the famous meme, "All your base are belong to us."  Credit goes to Man1912 Man of Reddit.

AnotherInuFan : I may just have a cheesy sense of humor, but is it just me or is it ironic that the name of the game is "Cute" yet...no one in the game actually IS?

supernerd117 : First off, I have summoned you manually so many times now that my auto complete considers your username a proper word and completes it as soon as I type "supe". Secondly, that reference is hilarious. Lol I want to say the reference is also made in Magicka 2, but I'm not sure. I know there's a famous typo or bad translation from a game in there, but I can't remember for sure if it's that one or not.
Finally, I may have been mistaken about the Zelda thing, I never saw it used, just read about it.

I got to say some of my personal favorite Easter eggs are in the halo series. Lets start off with the pissing brute, How can you not love a pissing brute lol. 2nd is the pic of the developer in the shower bouncing up and down. And 3rd its the Marine guy at the door in crows nest. It was funny hearing the different dialogue.
