Five Nights at Freddy's 4 is the 4th and final entry in the canon series. It was released for mobile devices and PC on July 23, 2015. All of the teasers that were released on Scott's website before this game came out immediately tell you that this entry is going to be the scariest one in the entire franchise. And those teasers did not lie. Compared to the rest of the series, this game is the scariest one out of them all. But scares isn't the only thing that makes a good horror game. How much does this game hold up to the rest of the games. Let's get on with the review and find out.
Graphics - 9
The detail of this entry in the series far exceeds the amount of detail compared to the earlier entries. To me, the detail to the animatronics has been increased with each new entry into the franchise. Also, you get to see a running animation as you move from different sides of the room. All of the models in this game look even more polished then the earlier games, and I can't help but acknowledge it. Graphics are a big deal when it comes to horror games. You need good graphics to make the experience more terrifying, and this game delivers it amazingly.
Sound - 10
This series is known for its use of noises to help you survive, but this game brings it to a whole other level. When you go next to the entrance of both of the doors at the sides of your room, you must listen carefully for breathing. And when I say carefully, I mean it. The breathing is very quiet, adding more spookiness to the already spooky experience. If you hear breathing, then you must quickly hold the door shut. Do not turn on your flashlight. If you do when you heard breathing, the Nightmares will kill you, resulting in a game over. You must also listen for Nightmare Foxy and Nightmare Freddy to stay alive. This entry relies on sounds, and it does it very well.
Addictiveness - 7
That feeling that the entire series gave you whenever you died still applies to this entry. Whenever you die, you just feel the need to beat it. You must find out what happened. You must complete the game to reveal the true story. But, whenever you rage, you rage hard. So hard, you may not even come back to the game for a few days, maybe even a few months. But you may always come back to it eventually. However, when you fully complete the game, there's not much else to do. Yes, the Halloween update does add a lot more, but not that much.
Story - 10
This entry, like the others, adds more information about what really happened in the timeline. But it also adds more questions and theories to the already complicated storyline. This is not always a bad thing, however. This can be used to further prolong discussion about the series, and it did. In December, the entire timeline of FNAF was finished, and approved by Scott. No more need to theorize about everything. It's all over. It's still an amazing story, nonetheless.
Depth - 8
Like I had explained in the addictiveness section of this review, this game has a lot more things to do compared to the past entries to the franchise. And not only that, but the Halloween update added EVEN MORE things to do. However, there was barely any replay value for this game. The only reason you'll probably ever need to come back to this game after you have fully completed it is for storyline purposes, but that's no longer relevant due to the storyline already being solved.
Difficulty - 8
This is the hardest game in the series, mainly because of how quiet the sounds can sometimes be. And Nights 5 and onward only add to the difficulty of this game with the introduction of Nightmare Fredbear, otherwise known as Golden Freddy. Him and Nightmare are the hardest animatronics to avoid in the game. The main reasoning for this is because of how unpredictable they can both be. One second he may be at one side of your room, and the next second he'll be at the opposite side. And after that, he'll either be inside your closet or on your bed.
Overall - 9.4
This is a GREAT way to finish the franchise. I have been eagerly awaiting for this game ever since it was announced, and it passed my expectations. Although there won't be any more entries, this series will still be remembered for the impact it has made. Besides, we still have a spin-off title and a movie coming out. |
