Diablo. Few words can describe this game: One of the granddaddies of hack and slash; seriously if there was one game that helped start that genre of games, it was this one right here. Made in 1996 Diablo is often described as an instant classic, It was made by Blizzard Entertainment. Diablo had follow up games like Diablo 2 and Diablo 3, and it caused other games like Torchlight to be created. This game was also ported over to the PS1.
Graphics: 8/10 Diablo has that really creepy, but insanely awesome type of graphical theme to it. You could tell this right off the bat with the way Tristan looked, it looked like a peaceful village but with that feeling that there's something obviously wrong. The Demonic looking sprites and lighting animations are incredible and simply stunning to date, and the amount of detail found within the game's maps dungeon's, and some extra creepy stuff like the pile of bodies during the butcher's room, just gave this game it's flavor.
Sound:9/10 The sound in Diablo is equally as creepy and stunning as the graphic compartment, the demonic grunts when you slay an enemy over 200 times is just sastifying, and even hearing the death scream of your own character or a boss makes for an unpleasant but fond memory of this game. The Butcher boss coming out and saying"Ahh Fresh Meat!" was downright horrifying. The music also helped with the graphical compartment, you wanna know why? Listen to Tristrams theme, this song alone is very iconic and whenever I think or hear about Diablo this theme will generally play in my head. Beyond that justification though there are more variety of songs that help go along with the dark overall tone that this game gives you.
Addictiveness: 7/10. This game has a lot of replay value, as it's a type of hack and slash, that cleverly forces you to mutil-task, literally spam potions, and hope you get lucky when killing those almighty thousands of Demonic Ogres(No I'm not exaggerating, you can encounter those) The most common part that frustrated me was getting completely owned by the butcher, but it also helped me to defeat the butcher and get his almighty cleaver. So in short of all this, Diablo is a very frustrating, but an addictive game. I literally got to level 9 in the dungeon, in a single day( not an easy task to do for beginners)
Story: 7/10 Basically what I get is you get a bunch of quest and text throughout the game that can help you figure out a plot. You literally have to play the game and beat all the quest without skipping to fully understand all of it.
Depth:10/10 Diablo is a pretty long single player game, you have quest, lots of levels, gear, items repairs and other stuff to do etc. The levels are pretty difficult, and you may wanna bring a pack full of potions on you with each trip, The game is no cakewalk, and it last long due to that reason. (Trust me, you try skipping, it will come back to haunt you especially when fighting the butcher at level 4 or something like that)
Difficulty: 7/10 Diablo is a fairly hard to beat game, you have Cheap AI which can range, your gear can be destroyed, and you have the most annoying thing which is a whole heaping group of them, you gotta be useful with your gear and your potions through out the game, but the difficulty won't stop there as the bosses are way harder than the adds.
Overall: 9.6 out of 10. Diablo is a great classic. If you have a fairly old pc I can highly recommend this game, or even if you have a backwards compatible PlayStation with Ps1 support.(Just be warned the PlayStation version isn't as good as the pc port)
