So… I’ve officially tried every weapon. Somewhere between
publishing the last guide and editing in the pictures I remembered some weapons
have blocking instead of rolling. At that point all I knew was Long Swords,
Hammers, Dual Swords, gunner weapons, and Insect Glaive. I had to edit in dodge
OR block. But now I’m at HR 7 and I actually know more practical maneuvers.
Note: I’d still rather roll than hold.

Last time we mainly covered the lvl 2 monsters in story
mode, now we’ll continue with them in lvl 3! And after that I may switch it up
because at that point 50% of the players leave story mode and just go online up
until hr 4. SO LETTUCE BEGIN.

First thing in the new area Sunken Hollow that you have to
face is the big luggamug Tetsucabra

It’s a tough one, and moves surprisingly quick. Attacks it’ll
use involve digging up boulders as weapons and jumping and charging at you at
great speed. A tip for dealing good damage is hanging by the rear. It has a
rough tail that, oddly enough, turns white and squishy whenever it lifts rocks.
This makes it an easy target, and fortunately for you, chances are when it
pulls up a boulder for either of its attacks, you’ll want to go around away
from the face anyways before it rolls the rock onto you or crushes it on you.
It also has a spitting attack that is highly irrelevant and can leave at a moment’s
notice by digging away. It digs slow though, so even if you didn’t paint it you
can follow the dust trail to the next area.

Did you hate the Yian Kutku? I hated the Yian Kutku, so you
know what we can do? Give it poison, the ability to stun, and kleptomania, and
rename it the Gypceros.

I really hate this thing, it’s basically adding nothing but
more annoyance to the Kutku. Charging at you? Check. Charging at you while
spitting stuff? Check. SPINNING. Dear god… But instead of spitting fire it
spits poison, and poison is like flame in a nutshell, but you can’t roll 3
times to fix it, you need antidotes. But you ran out of them because the
GYPCEROS ATE THEM. That’s right, when performing that triple peck attack he has
a fairly high chance of taking your items away, ANY item, so before fighting
this thing PLEASE store anything you want later but don’t need now. And to make
the poison worse, you might not even get to use an antidote because of
bullcrap. Once I fainted by poison to the Gypceros because of his stunning. He
can use the light on his head to illuminate the area and stun anyone nearby,
and he can use it multiple times in a row. The light, thank heavens, is
breakable, and it’s a great way to provide more time for you since the sucker
will keep trying to light it even though it isn’t there, letting you heal or
land more hits. And the final trick up it’s sleeve? It fakes it’s death. Now on
a mission where the Gypceros is the only monster, it’s a pretty obvious scam,
the quest isn’t over. You can still hit it, but back out before it thrashes
onto you. A way to tell it’s about to wake up is when its flickering light
consistently illuminates… but you can’t use that to you advantage because YOU
BROKE IT. Oh Gypceros, how you never cease to piss me off.

Maybe after that, we’ll take a break from the Sunken Hollow
and go on an expedition. There might be a new monster for you, the Basarios.

Now this monster is special… that’s because it’s a babby!
Now you may be wondering if THIS is the baby what is the PARENT like? ()
Well there are stories to tell. But for now, this is a rather rare monster that
only shows up on these expeditions, up until now I haven’t seen a quest for it
online. It’s a bit hard to locate at first though, it half-buries itself and
disguises as a mountain of ores, but once pops up you’re greeted by a big ol
heavy tank of a dragon… or flying wyvern as it’s classified in this game. Yes,
it can’t really fly, but the wings can still lift it up for a short enough
period to crush anything below. It also has a lot of other good stuff like lava
laser breath and the ability to shoot toxic gas from it’s belly. It can use
these two attacks for a combo, negating you from just hitting its supposedly
defenseless belly while it’s stuck using its misfired lava breath. Speaking of
its weak belly, the Basarios is really tough, it has rocks for skin after all,
so a lot of weapons will just bounce off of it unless it’s the weak spot. These
spots initially include the belly and POSSIBLY (as in don’t quote me on this, I
rarely fought this thing after all) the tail. New spots can be made by bashing
certain parts long enough, like the legs and back, the back by mounting the
monster and successfully 100% damaging it. Even the belly can be gashed open
even more. Watch out though, it can charge and roll forward, but while his
attacks are very powerful, they are telegraphed to some extent, giving you time
to prepare your an… yourself. Be sure to hunt this thing if given the chance,
as some parts of it you can gain are used in various weapon crafting.

The last monster on this part and the urgent quest of lvl 3
caravan quests is the giant spider, the Nerscylla.

Now this isn’t an ordinary spider, it comes with armor. This
armor comes from the hardened hide of it’s main source of prey, the Gypceros.
In other words me and the Nerscylla are pretty chill. Same goes for all you
monsters, if you want to gain props with me, just eat whatever I hate. The Nerscylla
also wears this armor because it acts as a base for the crystals that grow from
its back. These crystals ooze the poison inside of it, and it helps weaken
unsuspecting prey if the Nerscylla is above them. Of course it also spits web
at stuff, so that’s another way… oh and it can swing on web and launch itself
at prey too. Yeaaaah… you don’t want to be this thing’s prey. It’s about time I
bring up elements, which may come into play at this point. There are many
elements, including poison inducing, stunning, and even explosive elements
which can have special effects on monsters that are susceptible to them, but
all monsters can be weak, resistant, or neutral to the 5 main elements, which
are fire, water, ice, lightning, and dragon. Bugs like the Nerscylla and Seltas
are generally weak to fire, think pokemon rules, and commonly anything with
furry pelts can be weak to fire too. I’m not entirely familiar with the
weaknesses and resistances of monsters, but you can usually tell by the buffs
and nerfs you obtain by wearing their armor. I actually use the Nerscylla set
on one of my characters, so I can assume the Nerscylla is also weak to lightning
an resistant to dragon and water… or was it ice, I don’t remember at the moment
I’m writing this all down in one take. .__. Now the attack you really need to
watch out for from the Nerscylla is its jaws, which it will pop out to snap on
you like scissors. This does a LOT of damage and simultaneously poison you, so
when you see it getting its jaws ready MOVE AWAY FROM IT. Not to the side, this
risks you getting swatted by them anyways, just move back. And if you’re too
close it can sting you with its abdomen, making you fall asleep. My tip for
avoiding sleep, find a ledge to fall from. Stand in front of it, and once you
get knocked out, falling down will cancel the sleep altogether. If you can hit
the crystal spikes on its back you can not only destroy a source of poison, but
break away the Gypceros armor as well. Also don’t think you’re safe if you
dodge it’s web spit, if you walk on where the web landed you still get covered
and have to break out before the spider drags you towards it and attacks.

That’s about it for now, hope you enjoy the new caravan
boat, the Arluq, and safe sailing. Oh and watch out for the Go-
