I have severe trust issues, most likely from my parents getting a divorce when I was a baby. My father promised so many times to spend time with me that never came about that I think it messed me up.

I always seems to get involved with women who hurt me emotionally so I do not seek relationships. I'm fine being single and not having to worry about a girlfriend hurting me.

NameEntry : Although I can not talk about "serial" relationships - I married my first "true" love - you just did not find the right person. When I met him, it just clicked instantly, even though I was NOT looking my best. My "advice" would be to go to casual events as I did, and maybe you will find Mrs. Right. 

Unless, of course, celibacy is "right" for you.

maguc : I can relate to you. I was tall and ugly and was the loner everywhere I was. But just like the ugly duckling I ended up as a respectable human being, contributing in his own way to society. Your profile states that you are 16; that was probably the peak of my loneliness and dark feelings... If I can give you any advice, it is this: believe in yourself. Do not let them put you down. YOUR satisfaction in what you do is what counts. Did you give it all you had? Are there things you could have improved?

Right now I am struggling (not desperately) to find a more stable income. In the mean time I have odd freelancing jobs here and there, and my husband is getting worried about it. He is right, but I believe that if I persevere more I will find my dream job. He is not "discouraging" me, but he is not cheerleading either.

janus : i think the term you're looking for is "single for life" since celibacy has nothing to do with this.

I'd be lying if I said I could trust anyone at first, but that not quite the case unfortunately. However as I get to know them I began to lighten up a little.

I ended a three year relationship because the guy turned out to be a phony, liar, and cheater. I definitely have trust issues when it comes to starting a new relationship. I live alone and take care of myself so, I am going to be more picky and demanding as to what I want in a relationship. I am very honest with what I do and who I talk to so, I don't appreciate lies and secrets. I mean, once I get to know that person and shows me that he can be trustworthy then, naturally I will give it my best but, I think that as a person those things are hard to overcome and it's not as easy to fully trust someone all over again.
