Well, this has been by far the craziest start of a school year and the most hype-inducing! I've already fallen into inactivity here during my first week of school (which started last Friday ) and had a lot of work to do. Today I found out that the amount of work I have to do is about to be multiplied insanely fast.

As some of you know from previous threads of mine, I'm in high school and I'm taking a class called JROTC, a class that focuses on leadership and citizenship. You can take it for all 4 years of high school as a replacement for gym. Since I'm a sophomore, I've taken it for a year and I'm taking it this year. Once you're a sophomore, you can start being a mentor and a leader for the freshmen. I decided I really should take that path and do amazing things for my school.

I know a lot of people that take the class, including multiple friends of mine. Well, one of the people that I know from last year was the leader of my class. (the way the class works is that the freshmen have no leadership positions since it's their first year, but some of the upper-classmen have leadership positions chosen for them. I very unexpectedly got chosen for the highest position in the class: the commander (or leader of
everyone). The leader of my class last year was the one who chose me for that role (wow, a trusted student can pick who does what!) and she chose herself to be my assistant.

Since she had my role last year, that's perfect. Now I have my biggest chance to make more friends and prove that I'm more than a quiet kid. I also get to work alongside someone I know and look up to. If that isn't exciting, I don't know what is. Of course my anxiety problems have been attacking me for this, but I'm excited about it and I know I can handle this, but it'll be a lot of work!

It's because of this that I'll probably continue my inactivity here. I wanted to let everyone know why I'm inactive since I know many users get concerned about that, me being a very active staff member and all. Hopefully I'll update once in a while how my leadership is going! Now I have a lot of weight on my shoulders: staff position here, class leader at school, and role model in school. This trimester is going to be intense, but in good ways

Wow! I suppose JROTC has really been doing good for you! Great to hear you've gotten such a position- clearly you've proven yourself to be a competent and worthy person. All of this will be intense, for sure, but I'm certain you can handle it

I'm actually facing something of a similar predicament once school comes in September. There's loads of leadership positions available for sophomores. With your story, I feel motivated to apply for some of these positions.

Boxia : Thanks! Yeah, I can handle it pretty well if I handle my stress the way a leader should. The amazing thing is I didn't think I was even close to qualifying for the position, but I got chosen anyway! It's probably because I got 100% on almost everything last year

I'm glad this story inspired you! Good luck if you decide to apply

PacmanandMariofan : Good job PacmanandMariofan! I hope you do well in JROTC like you are doing right now. Does that mean you want to be in the military sometime in your life? I mean I am thinking JROTC is the military school for high school people. Is that correct? How come did you choose to choose JROTC than do gym? Because I think JROTC could be a hard thing to go through. Is it? What do you do in JROTC? I mean I might have done something other than gym if the school made me do certain sports for the whole gym class, but they let us choose after doing some things with the class, so it was not that bad for me at least that is what I remember about my gym class.

happiness7 : Thanks! I wouldn't like to be in the military in the future. JROTC basically is military school for high school people but they won't make you go into the military. I chose JROTC because gym has always been horrible and I knew I'd have more in store for me in JROTC.

It'll be really hard to go through as a commander since I'll have so much to deal with and so much to watch out for. At least I get to divide the responsibility evenly through the other staff of the classroom so I don't have too much.

In JROTC we learn about many important values and life skills and do many activities involving leadership, teamwork, and more. We also do community service

PacmanandMariofan : Wow, so that is what JROTC is about. I just thought that it was like the military all the way, but it seems like it could be a fun experience to go through, through high school. I just decided to stick with gym because I liked basketball, running the track, and soccer though not every day I would be able to participate in those sports, but I never felt horrible in trying out new sports. I just felt reluctant about doing football and baseball. The precision in those sports were a little tiresome to think about while playing because it was always on my mind as I played the sport, but never felt confident enough to perform well in those sports, so I just stayed away from those sports. Still it was good for me to be able to try them at least once in my life to see if I like those sports, but it just felt like too much to play during those sports, so I never really liked it. What about you, what sports do you like?
