My daughter (she just turned 2) was bouncing on the trampoline and somehow bashed her chin (my wife didn't see it) and split it open and needed to go to the ER. I was at work so I left early and met them there. My mom came by later and picked up the 2 older girls and took them off for the afternoon so we didn't have to deal with them at the hospital.

I have to say now that getting stitches done on a 2 year old might be one of the worse things ever. It took 5 people to keep her still while the doctor stitched up her chin. By the end of it she was so exhausted I think she actually passed out for a few minutes.

also, at one point the doctor said "Just one more stitch" and my daughter said "okay" in a really sad voice. It was adorable.

Anyway, anyone else with a story about having to take kids (or younger siblings) to the ER? This was my first time with anything this serious (serious as in actually needing a doctor to fix something) so it was pretty traumatic.

Well, not a sibling or a child of my own, but I know I had to be taken to the ER a few times for my own stitches. I had a bad habit of leaning on my front two chair legs when I ate. And back then I didn't have the balance I do now, so naturally I fell, forward... Into the table.... Many many many times. I couldn't count the stitches if I wanted to, but this was nearly 15 years ago. So I don't really remember.

I've got a nephew that keeps going to the E.R. He busted his chin playing on one of the carousels that you put quarters in. He had to get 5 stitches, and there's still a scare there.

Then, in the same week, we were at a fast food place, and he was running around and slipped, banging his head pretty hard. Blood was gushing, but it wasn't as bad as it looked, head wounds tend to bleed out more. He did get to ride in an ambulance, which he loved. And, when he finally made it to the waiting room, he was running around, joking, and just being happy. That kid is something else.

We're constantly telling him to stop jumping/climbing/standing/licking/running on things, but he doesn't really listen. Pain isn't a deterrent with him. XD

Ouch. One time I played jump rope in my house's entryway and fell and slammed my chin into the hard wood floor. I had a two hour long nosebleed and almost broke my chin (I think I still have a scar where it hit), but I never even went to a doctor or anything. But I was about 7 years old, not 2, and of course I wasn't two years old, nor did I need stitches or anything. That's got to suck for someone that young.

I've been a total of three times to the ER.

The first one was because the doctors couldn't find out what was happening to my body, so they recommended me to go there and stay in observation for a full week.

The second one was because my rib cage hurt while breathing. It was revealed that what caused it was my poor weight.

The last one was because of a strange virus I caught. I spent one night shaking violently, and the following days I had to stay in bed because of a fever before finally going to the ER. They didn't find anything strange, and when exiting the ER, I was feeling just fine.

I can't imagine how scary that was for your 2-year-old. I'm praying that she'll be fine and have a nice recovery.

It's so nice that your daughter seemed to handle the situation very well

geeogree : Well it's good to know that your daughter will be alright though it sounds scary to have your chin spit open like that. Though nothing like that has happened to me my Mom had to go to the ER due to severe alcohol poisoning 2 times and my Grandpa had his hand spit in half or as half as a plastic fan for a machine can do and trust me it was bad. That said hope your daughter get's better :3

I remember when I was around 4 or 5 I had to go to the ER and get a huge amount of stitches. I was jumping on the couch and we had a small aquarium between the couches. It looked nice, until I slipped off the couch and my leg got caught in the now shattered fish tank. My instinctive response was to yank my leg out of there since it was stuck between the wood part of it and a big glass part. It cut my leg almost bone deep from my ankle to my knee. It was pretty traumatizing and I don't think it's a forgettable experience. I still have the scar too.

I don't think I have ever had to go to the ER for stiches but there is plently of things that have happened to me that needed stiches I just didn't go to the doctor. I've slammed my fingers in doors/windows you name it. The only time I actually had to go to the ER especially was when I was about 8... I was trying to save my sister from falling off the top of a bunk bed but instead I fell backwords and broke my left arm... it was a really bad break... my bone was sticking out of my arm so I guess I did have to have stiches to patch it up but I'm unsure... sorry for that detail but it was terrible .... All I remember was screaming and crying for 15 minutes until I got to the ER.... -shrugs-

I don't really know anybody that had to have stiches or anything though. I'm sorry you and your daughter had to go through that. Hopefully she will heal good

Just a quick update for anyone who cares - my daughter is doing just fine now. The cuts on her chin are healing nicely and the stitches should fall out on their own in 2 or 3 days.

Thankfully it seems like there is no other damage. They did normal tests to check for head injury but everything came up negative. Looks like she'll just have some sort of scar under her chin and that's it.

Pretty grateful that that is the worst of it.
