I was just wondering what people's opinions are for following an EPL team. I have been a sports fan my whole life and I have just started to become interested in soccer. With the access available to me, EPL is the easiest league to watch. I know that there are other great leagues out there but I think I am going to start with the EPL.

So, what team in the EPL do you think I should follow? What are the fans like? What is the history of the team?

I started following the EPL 2 or 3 years ago, and I find it extremely interesting. I went from only watching soccer during the World Cup and the Olympics to being really into the EPL and now starting to get into MLS also.

With the EPL you are gonna have so many people saying Manchester United this, Man U that. And yes they might be one of the most popular sports teams in the world. But in my opinion rooting for Man U is like jumping on the New York Yankees bandwagon because Man U, just like the Yankees has the resources to go and outspend everyone, so they are never gonna be any kind of a underdog.

After Man U, you have 5 or 6 other teams always around the top. The EPL is alot like MLB baseball as in the fact there isn't a salary cap. So you have teams at the top  majorly outspending the teams at the bottom. After Manchester United you have Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham Hotspur as the other big spending clubs. I personally have enjoyed following Chelsea. Yes they are big spenders like Man U, but I think they are really fun to watch and have alot of history of success in both the EPL and The Champions League.

You just hafta start watching some games and find out a team or certain players that you like to follow and go from there though. Have Fun!! The EPL can be very exciting!

Depends on the type of play you like really. Chelsea are quite defensive than most of the top teams. Man United, Arsenal, Spurs,Liverpool and Man City are the most popular teams. If you don't want to supporta popular team then I would say support Swansea City. They are a great side and recently beat Man United. Everton is another decent side as well.

koeber8 :
Thanks for the great input. I have been watching as many games as I can at the begging of the season. However, I am on the west coast so some games are on way to early for me like 4am on Saturday.

I guess I'll just have to keep watching to find a favorite teams. Thanks again for the response.

ivardds : Yeah Gomes is his name. Hope they can keep him for a while because I reckon some of the bigger teams will come knocking for him.

Why do you have to follow a team in the EPL. Do you have to follow a team to enjoy EPL more? Why not just be a fan of the league instead of a team. I make this point as I am a believer that you should only be a fan of a team close to where you live or are from.

I hope this is not taken the wrong way it's not ment to upset anyone this just my thoughts and opinion.

One team that is definitely worth keeping an eye on this season are Leicester City. They have only been in the EPL for one full season so far and yet under Claudio Ranieri's management they find themselves top of the league. Skeptics will argue that Leicester have only played against 'average' teams for the most part, but consistency is a sign of a championship contender. Tomorrow they are playing against Man United, who are in second place, 1 point behind Leicester, it will be interesting to see who comes out on top. Leicester have also discovered a quality goalscorer in Jamie Vardy, who has scored in 10 games in a row - a feat that has only been accomplished once in EPL history by Ruud Van Nistelrooy for Man United. It would be very fitting if Vardy were to break that record against Man United tomorrow
