Bulldozer Reviews On The Run: Wizard101.
Harry Potter, eat your heart out...
Back story: Ever wanted to live life as a young Wizard? Well, you could go kill some monsters, play some mini-games, or go explore the various worlds, but here in the Spiral, we do things a little bit differently... and it is AWESOME!!! ( 9.8/10 )
Graphics: Everything, from the characters, to the clothing and weapons, to the pets and mounts you get, to the wonderful places you visit, all look utterly amazing! Other MMORPG's could use a lesson in character and level design from these guys! What can I say? It's magic! ( 10/10 )
Sound: From the moment you start up the game, you can tell this game has one amazing score. The music in this game is awesome, especially during the battles! One of my favorite songs is the Dragonspyre battle theme, which really helps add to the atmosphere as the game reaches it's climax. And as you may expect, the music is fine-tuned to match the area. Well done, guys! You can bet they would make a lot of money if they selled an Original Sound Track ( OST ) for this game. ( 10/10 )
Gameplay: Turn-based combat inspires teamwork with your fellow Wizards to defeat your enemies, though it is possible to take the fight alone. But as a Life Wizard, I prefer to fight with a team, who I can heal while they destroy everything. Though the combat can get long and slow later in the game ( as the enemies get more health ), but if your with a team of people, you can easily blow through them all. The combat actually feels very Final Fantasy or Golden Sun, and that is not a problem at all.
The mini-games are all nice, though there is no point in playing them whatsoever except to quickly recover your mana or refill your potion bottles. The pet mini-games are pretty fun. I love Grumpy Gobblers, where, if your good enough, you can get a bit of satisfaction by obliterating everything in sight.
The quests do get very annoying later in the game, when they get longer and when the game starts throwing bosses at you with only about 10 minutes between boss battles, and every once in a while, you will run into a quest where you have to fight a boss alone, which can get annoying. The story is very well-done, but the long, drawn-out quests can detract from the quality later in the game, So I consider this a bust.
This game does a great job of keeping the hacker population nonexistant. In all my years playing Wizard101, I haven't seen one hacker ANYWHERE, which is superb. Very few big budget MMORPG games can say this about themselves, so Wizard101 has every right to brag. So credit to Wizard101, because as we all know, hackers can really ruin the game for everyone else. And I won't lie, certain MMO games have seen a lot of hackers, or are completely ruined by hackers. ROBLOX, I'm looking right at you!
Bottom line: This game, while it's gameplay mechanics do get annoying at times, it's better then some other games out there. A LOT better. ( 8.5/10 )
Replay Value: This game is VERY long, but the fact the story and characters are so amusing, and the combat is so enjoyable, and the different schools are so different, it invites you to play the game again as another school, so by all means, go ahead and do so! This game has replay value to spare! ( 10/10 )
FINAL SCORE: ( 48.3/50 WONDERFUL )
