With Nintendo's successor to the massively successful DS, known as the Nintendo 3DS on the way, EA decided they would release a new Madden game as one of the 3DS' launch titles. The game was panned by critics, but was it really as bad as they were saying it is? I'll do my best to answer this question for you by making this review.

Graphics: 4/10 When it comes to visuals, Madden NFL Football for the 3DS looks very outdated for a 2011 football game. One of the biggest issues I have is with the players themselves. For some reason, every part from their chest upwards is strangely large while the rest of their bodies are much smaller. Not only are the player designs poor, but the fans are also poorly designed. The fans in previous installments in the series look far better, such as the fans from games as far back as Madden 05. These outdated and at times miserable visuals leave me wondering why they didn't make better use of the 3DS' graphical capabilities. They also made poor use of 3D, which hurt my eyes as I was playing with it on. I know this was a launch title, but they still could've done a much better job. Overall, the graphics in Madden NFL Football for the 3DS are deserving of a 4.

Sound: 5/10 Madden NFL Football for the 3DS has a decent soundtrack. There's a good variety of songs that you can listen to. As far as the commentating goes, it's better than commentating I've heard in other handheld games in the series, but it gets repetitive very fast, since the commentators only talk about a few players. The crowd noise is pretty decent, but again, they too can get annoying after awhile. Overall, the sound category in Madden NFL Football deserves a 5.

Addictiveness: 4/10 When it comes to replay value, Madden NFL Football fails to deliver anything to the series that's already been done before. To make matters worse, the rosters used in this game are outdated, EA decided to put the 2010 rosters in this game. This means that for teams that had drastic roster changes between 2010 and 2011 will be left having to use old players, such as having to use Carson Palmer for the Cincinnati Bengals, who at the time was wanting to be traded (and later was to Oakland). The worst issue however would probably have to be the fact that the Season Mode doesn't keep track of individual stats. These issues seriously hurt Madden NFL Football's replayability. For these reasons, I'm giving the addictiveness a 4.

Story: N/A There is no story in this game, therefore I'm leaving this category blank.

Depth: 2/10 Normally when you think of Madden, you think of Franchise Mode, a mode where you take control of your favorite team and you can change depth charts, make trades, change the coaching staff, draft players, sign free agents, etc. Well guess what? In Madden NFL Football, Franchise Mode was taken away. Not only that, but there are no game modes other than Play now, practice mode, and Season Mode. This may have been acceptable long ago back when franchise mode didn't exist, but now, there need to be more modes than just 3. I don't remember ever playing a Madden game had such little depth to it. Overall, Madden NFL Football doesn't have enough features for me to recommend it to a Football fan. For these reasons, I'm giving the depth a 2.

Difficulty: 4/10
Madden NFL Football isn't a super tough game to understand if you're familiar with how football works. The AI can be a bit weird at times though, because for some reason, it doesn't take the clock into consideration at times, which if you're in the lead, this gives you a considerable advantage. Madden NFL Football isn't as tough as other games in the series, so I'm giving the difficulty a 4.

Overall Score: 4.5/10 Even though it was a launch title, Madden NFL Football fails to give players a proper Madden experience. With outdated rosters, a severe lack of modes, poor graphics, and the fact that Franchise Mode doesn't exist here, Madden NFL Football is a major disappointment. I'd recommend not buying this title even if you find at a very cheap price. I bought my copy at Best Buy for $4.99 and I've gotta say, there are way better Madden titles even here on Vizzed. For these reasons, I give Madden NFL Football a score of 4.5 out of 10.

While I do not really like sports game your review was really good saying negatives and a few positives.

I think why the game failed like you said was because they did not know how to use the software for 3ds yet which is why I think some companies try to not make launch titles with fear they used the new software wrong.

Oh my God that game sounds just terrible. To quote a famous game reviewer 'what were they thinking?!' Doesn't keep track of stats? Super Tecmo Bowl did that in 1990. No franchise mode? Why the heck not? That truly is sad. I don't even care about the graphics if those elements aren't in the game, I'm not buyin. Good review by the way. lol.

awesomeguy279 : Yeah, though there have been very good launch titles for systems in the past, so there really is no excuse for how poorly made this game is.

Ferdinand : I really don't know what they were thinking lol! This is just another example of why it's not worth buying an EA game, even if it is an NFL game. The last Madden game I bought was ironically this one.
