Roommates isn't really a bad game, I was closing down my steam shop and I wanted to redeem some if the games for myself and when I looked up this game I told myself that it looked pretty cool so I gave it a shot and it ended up being a lot if fun. It's unique in terms of games that I have played and it also happens to be one of those visual novel things. I have always seen this visual novel things but never wanted to give it a try because I thought I wouldn't like then and this turned out to be my first one. The game is basically a college and dating simulator, which sounds odd, but its a lot like the little side stuff in Persona 4 Golden, which is one of the reasons I liked that game so much. It plays out like you are watching a movie, and all the events unfold for you, which I guess should happen since it's a visual novel, but I tend to like these kinds of games. I downloaded the game and played it for about two hours and I was able to get into it, for me its the perfect blend of watching a movie and playing something like The Sims.

GRAPHICS 8/10

The graphics are really good, even though nothing actually moves. Unlike most games where you see all these animations, and you actual move around, this game is all about pictures. I don't even think there's a single video piece in this game, all you have is a different background depending on the scene and then the characters in the front in whatever pose they have and the only other thing that you have is the text box. Sure it would be nice to be able to walk around the school and whatnot, but I think that would take away from the constant movie like feeling and the game just wouldn't have that same vibe. Besides, the way the game looks now is pretty good enough in its anime style. Even though they are just pictures they are all colorful and full of details and when you are talking about the graphics that's really all you need, you just need to see what's going on. It would have been much better with animations and stuff by for now the grade for graphics is going to be an 8 out of 10.

SOUND 8/10

The sound is actually really good, but mostly for the music, there are some regular sounds here and there but honestly they are nothing compared to the music. When I got the game, it was part of a deluxe pack which came with the mp3 soundtrack and some pictures and after playing the game for a bit, I did make sure to get the soundtrack downloaded so i could listen to some of the songs on my own. When you turn on the game and make it to the main menu, you are met by the theme song which is really good and happens to be the reason why I wanted to download the full soundtrack, because I really liked that one song. There are a couple other songs as well that play throughout the game and they are all really good. All in all, you might not have a lot in the sound department but what is there does happen to be really good and my overall grade for this aspect is going to be another 8 out of 10.

ADDICTIVENESS 9/10

Wouldn't you want to play a game where you get to live out your college life and have a blast while also watching a pretty good story unfold? Sure, everything is set in stone as to what you can do and even when there is something extra you're always limited, but this is really the kind of game you want to play over and over because its a lot of fun and its not hard at all. Theres so many different things for you to do, and if you really want to play everything and unlock all of the endings and stuff, then you ae going to have to beat the game and then start it all over again and do other things. Theres really no problem with that though, there's plenty of people who have enough fun playing the game to want to play it again to try something new. Heck, the game wouldn't have like 40 save slots if the developers thought that the gamers would T end up experimenting a little bit. Overall, the game can be really addicting, even for those who originally don't like it or think that it would be boring and my overall grade for this aspect is going to be a 9 out of 10.

STORY 7/10

Yes, this game has a story, and a lot of them for that matter or else it wouldn't really be classified as a visual novel, would it? The game revolved around you picking a character and starting this new school while playing out all the events of the school year, everything all the way down to sleeping, studying, and working. You get go play as either a boy or a girl who both have their own little storylines and then you just play out all the events of the year. You go on to make friends, date, fail your classes, work, and more. Watching the story unfold is actually a lot of fun because everything has so much dialogue and even just thinking sk its really just like reading a book and theres so much content to it. Overall the story is pretty good and for a grade, its going to get a 7 out of 10.

DEPTH 10/10

The game has so much depth, even though you can only control a few aspects of the game, theres still so much. First off you have a schedule for the week and you get to choose what you do in each time slot for each day. For each slot you have to pick from at least 2 options for what you want to do during that time and theres 21 slots for each week, so you can create the week exactly how you want it to look. Every little thing you do will affect the game though because if you do one thing, the thing you didn't do will have a consequence. On top of that, the characters off even more depth, you get to choose between a bit and a girl and then beyond that in the dating aspect of the game theres so many different people to choose from and different storylines that stem out of that. But wait, theres more, the game itself is really long and just for one play through, so if you want to try out all of the different stories, you could end up playing the game for more than 100 hours or so and still have more to do. The game has so much to offer and for a grade, depth is going to get a perfect 10 out of 10.

DIFFICULTY 1

This has to be one of the easiest games that I have ever played, for about 90% of the game you're just watching how it unfolds and even if you have to choose from something theres no wrong choice, you just have to choose what you want and each option will lead to a different story, so theres nothing hard about the game at all. The only time that you might run into some troubles would be after you have beat the game a couple of times and want to get specific endings because then you will need to start being very strategic and need to be a bit more careful about your choices to get what you need. Other than that I can't really think of a game that's easier, there's no controls to be learned, in fact I think you just use the left click button for the entire game, theres no monsters to fight, and all you do is read text and respond to it. It is literally impossible for a game to be any easier than that and my grade for difficulty is going to be a 1.

OVERALL 8.5/10

I was really surprised by this game. Months after I got the game I was surprised when I started reading about it and then later on I was even more surprised when I actually started playing it. If you like visual novels, then this is the game for you, if you like simulation games, then this is for you, and if you like easy games, then this should be high up on your list. This is a really solid and fun game and I would recommend it to anyone who likes any of those, though it is a bit on the expensive side, but if you get it, you will easily get your monies worth after playing it. I really liked this game, I thought it was great, and my overall grade for Roommates is going to be an 8.5 out of 10.

I'm actually surprised you gave this type of game such a high rating. These types of titles rarely would I consider "games" they more cater to a fan of comic strips or other people that I wont get into here.

Also surprised you gave such a high score for "graphics" when there really is nothing in these games but static images.

There are tons of these types of games around the internet playable for free. Crazy that they are charging 25usd on steam for this thing.

Jordanv78 : Since I never played others before this, I'm not sure how long other games play for, but when it comes to the price, this is a really long game, you can easily get the same amount of play time as pretty much any long RPG if you try to get everything.

This review was.....decent overall. You gave quite a bit of detail but there's still the problem you have with every review- grammar.

"...it ended being a lot
if fun",  just one example (in the first sentence, no less). "theres" instead of "there's", and many other errors. You may not have access to a word program with a spellchecker, but it always helps to proofread your reviews thoroughly before publishing them. The human mind can understand context and inflection- spellcheckers can't.

These errors may be small but they really can shatter the flow of the sentence.

To add to what Boxia said: you also have too many endless sentences. Your very first one could have been broken down into at least 3 sentences.

Otherwise, your reviewing skills are good as usual: excellent structure and lots of details
