I am currently studying for my CompTIA A+ certification and have already got my CompTIA Network+ and it does opens plenty of opportunities for computer related jobs. Even if you don't go for a CompTIA, you may want to go for a CCNA certification. If I decide to continue my education, I might just go for CCNA certification and others. One thing I have learned from Network+ is pinging my connection, WAN, LAN, DHCP, DNS, ipconfig to name a few and even how hackers operate since my teacher for that class used to work for the government for many years and even though my mother is a computer teacher, she does not know everything.

Whatever YOU believe is best for YOU, do it. I once had a similar thread (Is College Worth It?) and I said that if you can get a decent job without getting into a mountain of debt you are unlikely to pay back, go for it. College is NOT meant for everyone.
