Do you have any modded consoles? If so what ones and what method/exploit did you use? What do you do with your consoles new found freedom? If you don't have a modded console, do you wish you did?

I have a softmodded xbox (original) that I modded with SID 5.11 and Splintercell. I use it for some emulators and tryed some homebrew (and tbh pirate Halo 2 before I bought it).

I also have a CFW PSP running Pro CFW 6.60 C2 (but its not a permanent mod, I have to relaunch it every time I turn it on). I use it to play PS1 ganes I own physically and play backup copys of my UMDs (who thought they were a good idea anyways?). Also some more piracy.

I also have a Supercard DS Two, a flashcard for the DS, which I use exclusively for piracy. (I been considering getting Swap Magic also).

How 'bout you?

I don't have any modded consoles, but it'd be pretty interesting to have one. I'm unsure at the moment whether I want one or not. One of my friends is really into technology (mainly computers and consoles) and he's really great at figuring things out, complex or simple, so he could probably mod one of his/my consoles.

I didn't have much of an idea of what I was doing. But I modded my wii with the homebrew channel. I barely used it though. lol But I did use it to get Project M for Brawl. Of course both the game, and the disc break a lot. It's still fun. I want to try more modding stuff sometime also.

I wonder what the character limit on this thing is.

I had an original xbox that was modded to install games on to it... So I just rented games for one day and installed the full game onto my xbox.. It was amazingly cheap in terms of getting new games. I mean it was awesome as a teenager without the money to get games all the time.....

It was pretty expensive to mod.. Like $150 but it was worth it in the end that's for sure!

I had a modded PS2. Can't tell you how it was modded because I didn't mod it myself. Got it from my brother and I played a bunch of PS2 games that way, it was more or less the console that really got me into gaming.

Don't have it anymore though, ended up giving it back to my brother, he still has it at his place I think, so I usually play a bit whenever I'm visiting

A user of this : Sounds like you used either hackmii or a save game exploit. I've been meaning to get a wii of my own for trying project M and pirating Melee, but I never usually have money for it.

sonicmcmuffin : Sounds like a softmod and the 150 was for screw drivers and the hard drive for extra space for the games. And yeah, piracy is always cheaper (hence so popular with teens), but I'd of just downloaded of the internet. But who even knows if you had internet or such, but $2 rental fee for a game is cheaper than $60.

Zlinkx: I can't tell how you modded yours (or your brother anyway). But piracy for the win right?

EDIT: Zlinqx, I have failed you XD.

I do not at this point but I'm going to buy a modded model 1 genesis. I really wish I had the skill to do any form of moding but sadly I do not. The only way I'd be able to learn would be to have a friend that could and they hold my hand through the first few dozen trys

I have a hard-modded ps1, J-TAG'd Xbox 360, and soft-modded Wii.

I'm not really sure of the specifics of the PS1 and 360 hack since I didn't do it myself. I know that both can play pirated games, though I've never tried on the 360 since I don't actually have a compatible burner. I got the 360 modded since it can no longer connect to the internet anyway (ethernet port is busted.)

I modded the Wii using the Twilight hack and installed a bunch of emulators. Everything was going well for years, installed some custom ios, then one day a few months later it mysteriously hard bricked. I can't figure out what the cause is, my thought is that my cousin tried to update the firmware when the pop-up showed up. It could very well be a hardware failure though, who knows. It wouldn't be my first console that's broken from falling, (it would be the third.) I'm not too beat up about it since I already migrated all of my saves to my Wii U, my Gamecube is still functional, and a 2nd hand Wii only costs like $30. I'll probably end up doing it again if I come across a dirt cheap Wii.

bigger0gamer : That is cool! How did you get those modifications on your game systems? This is the first time I have ever heard of modified systems and consoles? But I don't have any modded systems or consoles.

ThanatosUnraveld : Oh you like to play on them? What a shame, I prefer my console broken and burned into a thousand bits after epically failing at a hard mod over a normal retail console that actually works XD. But HB Channel nice nice, HackMii or Twilight Princess (that's the name of that Zelda game, right?) exploit? (I totally did not ask you a question will in the middle of asking another question XD.)

GenesisJunkie : Don't see the point in modding that old thing when you could simply get a flash cart and a compact flash card, download every Genesis ROM in existence (I'm totally not forced to recommend get-your-rom.com or anything), pop in the flash cart and play. Unless you mean like a Composite mod.

CthulWho : Hard-mod PS1 sounds nice but it would be to much of a pain to find black colored CD-Rs for it to load at optimal speed and the slowness of sliver-bottomed CD-Rs would be painfully slow. I would just use Gameshark V4 on a slim PS2. But nice all the same. And what do you mean you don't know how you 360 was modded? You just told be it was JTAGed! XD I think you mistaked JTAG as the term for all modded 360s, which really, JTAG only worked on early model 360s (close to launch day), and they can't be updated either. But if you don't use Live, might as well mod! Though for your next Wii, try HackMii, it doesn't need a game or exploit save (incase you no longer have you copy of Zelda).

happiness7 : Assuming you mean my consoles, it was rather easy (PSP and Xbox are really easy to mod). For PSP, I just downloaded a CFW launcher, put it in my games directory, and just launch it every time I turn on the system (it isn't as bad as it sounds, since the PSP does have sleep mode). For Xbox, I just cut up some wires and taped them back together so that I could plug it in to my PC, then I used Action Replay Xbox to transfer the softmod installer and the exploit save to my memory card plugged into my controller. Copy it onto my Xbox, launch the installer from Splinter Cell (by loading the exploit save), and clicked install (more or less). If you want a detailed and informative explanations and guides, Google is you friends!

bigger0gamer : Genesis isnt easy to emulate and normally looks or sounds off. The model one genesis (the one that has high definition on it) natively outputs rgb but I would want and svideo out and better sound modded on (which is the most common genesis mods).

I don't have any modded consoles, but I do want to try getting mods set up on my Wii sometime in the future. Whether it's to get custom tracks for Mario Kart, or just to have games like Mario Party 3 that weren't on the Wii Shop channel and have a way to play them with a controller, which on Vizzed, I cannot do right now.

bigger0gamer : Thanks for the advice for my next Wii. I still have Zelda, but unless the previous owner of my next Wii never updated their system, it's probably a high firmware and unable to do the Twilight hack anyway.

As for the PS1 disk type, I've had the same silver-bottom CD-R copies for more than a decade without any issues. Maybe load times are longer, but it's never bothered me and the games seem to play at normal framerate (at least those that I could confirm, like Resident Evil 3, which I own on PC.)

Lastly, I'm familiar with Gameshark on N64 but I've never used it on any disk-based systems. I'm guessing it works as a sort of swap disk on the PS2.

bigger0gamer : WHY MUST YOU FAIL ME ;-;

But yeah it was great, especially since that was a time I probably couldn't afford to buy that many games myself so that allowed me to play a bunch of games I probably never would've gotten the chance to otherwise.

ThanatosUnraveld : I forgot to mention, it tastes like fried chicken. You should try it sometime XD. And I'm a bit confused by what you mean "hacks for them". I think you mean mods for the game, but I wouldn't be able to help (never actually modded a Wii myself, don't have one).

GenesisJunkie : In my experience, Genesis is rather easy to emulate, and unless your emulator is really old/horrible, it does so without problems, but I guess it is preference. And by Composite mod, I was referring to changing the port to a more common cable (like you would see on the back of a DVD player for example), I already knew it output natively (I own a model 1 Genesis and long ago a model 2). Still not sure about a better sound mod, wouldn't the sound on the cart be the same low quality? I guess I'm not as knowledgeable on mods for older consoles, after all, I typically only think of running unsigned code when I think of modding, so for that old of consoles a flash cart is all that is needed for that (also I prefer to emulate at that age of console).

patar4097 : Well I have been thinking about writing up some tuts and posting them somewhere on vizzed (not much sure where exactly they would belong), but it would be a bit hypocritical for me to write one for Wii (as I said earlier, I've never modded one) though. I'll just say though, for N64 games, I've read that some work better on emulators, some better with ROM injection, you'll just have to look up some compatibility lists.

CthulWho : Well, HackMii works on latest firmware last I checked (and I'm very sure there have been no updates), I've read that its the easiest ways many places, and it requires no game, so I figured I'd let you know. And, as silver-bottoms work just fine, it has long load times, which as I recall, I once performed the double swap trick (somehow), and loading on dragons in Spyro taking forever. Hence, I would want black-bottoms, not as much load speed. At any rate, I'm holding out for PSIO to come out (which is looking amazing, you should check it out sometime).

Zlinqx : BECAUSE, I'M NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO NOT FAIL YOU XD. But as I said, piracy FTW (same case with sonicmcmuffin too). EDIT: I failed you by not failing you, NU~!

As of now, I only have a psp that we borrowed and my little brother put light cfw on, but sometime in the future, I plan on getting a clip on mod chip for one of our ps2's. That way, I can get my library refurbished, burn backups of the whole thing, and not be concerned with unintentionally damaging them. I don't think I would ever do anything permanent like full cfw for soldiering in a mod chip.... I like to preserve things.
