Back in college, one of the phys. ed. classes had a stress management part. One of the suggestions for relaxing was to listen to appropriate music. Since I was already a video game music geek, that is where I started.

And boy is the list long. The very first one that came to mind was Omen from Xenogears (when escalating the Tower of Babel and inside the last dungeon). To this day, I still believe this is the epitome of music to relax to. It is slow, the orchestration is wonderful and it lasts almost 5 minutes! Other regular VG tracks include Chasing the Black-Caped man (Final Fantasy VII; it sounds so magical), In the Autumn (Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals; a charming waltz), Dark City Treno (Final Fantasy IX; the original sounds better than the "real" piano one), the path to Repentance (Final Fantasy X; another one sounding better in-game) and Yggdrasil (Breath of Fire III). Piano versions of Rydia and the Theme of Love (Final Fantasy IV), the Phantom Forest and Kid Run Through the City (Final Fantasy VI), and orchestrated tracks like Princess Ellis (Shining Force II), the Village theme (Final Fantasy V) and the Unknown Castle (Dragon Warrior IV) are also excellent. In have some 100 tracks on my relaxation playlist.

Of course, limiting my options to video game only would be foolish. "Regular" music is also excellent to relax to. Tracks from Mozart (Allegros Asai, Civ IV version, Air) and Beethoven (Für Elise, Moonlight Sonata) will unstress you in a jiffy. Enya's Watermark will also surely calm you down.

Any other suggestion of relaxing music?

There's a lot of really great, almost "New Agey" music from the Ecco the Dolphin soundtrack on Sega CD. The Genesis soundtrack is also pretty good, but I personally prefer the Sega CD version. It almost sounds like the music you'd hear in a 90's documentary about the ocean! You should definitely give it a listen! The music from EVE Online has some really relaxing, yet upbeat tunes as well. I always liked the track titled "The Archlytte Steppes" from the Final Fantasy XIII OST.

In terms of non video game music, my go to relaxation artists are easily Vangelis and Enya.

For VGM's, I'd suggest Buster Rod G from Mega Man: The Wily Wars, as well as the theme from Mother 3 (at least the one that plays at the end).

For non-VGM's, I usually turn to Bob Marley- Buffalo Soldier is a personal favourite. For more recent relaxing artists, there's Tobu and Lensko.

Not music, but I like to listen to water to relax. Either rain, a waterfall, or something else similar. There are tons of videos on youtube now that have all different sorts of ambient sounds looping for hours. There's even the Star Trek warp core sound that they used when the ship was in cruise mode.

janus : Well if you like country music, I would say that would be a good alternate route for listening to relaxing music. I like "Lose my Mind" by Brett Eldridge or "Crash and Burn" by Thomas Rhett. Both very catchy tunes and interesting sounding music. Country in my opinion is relaxing music. What do you think? Also you could listen to a lot of dubstep music. Maybe that would be something to you liking.

LittleTinRobot : Ah yes, Enya. Her Watermark, along with Moonlight Sonata and Für Elise, are probably the most relaxing piano tracks ever. I was surprised to find a music video out of this track.

Ferdinand : I did listen to "white noise" channels for a while. Thankfully I discovered Ad Block as I got awaken in the middle of the night by advertisement.

I've been listening to Beethoven's symphonies a lot recently. I find No. 4 to be particularly relaxing; really good to work with.

You should try Jean Michel Jarre. He has a ton of compositions that soothe the spirit and helps you relax and concentrate. Oxygene 4 is the best of them, either the original or the Aero version. He only uses electronic instruments, but still the sounds are magical. He himself stated in an interview that listening to his music with the eyes closed and leaving your mind blank makes you feel better. It surely does, trust me.

Maybe Mike Oldfield could work too. His Tubular Bells is just amazing. He uses a ton of instruments in his compositions, so you will hear a wide variety of sounds.

For relaxation, I often find myself listening to Spyro Gateway to glimmer / Ripto's rage music.
More specifically I listen to the music from each of the home worlds. When I listen to them, I can see the place where the music is playing.
I feel more like home, when I listen to these songs. I think one reason for this is that all of the Spyro games were my whole childhood.
And another one I listen to is not music, but ASMR videos. Mostly tapping videos with no talking. Everyone has different ways of feeling asmr.
Try multiple videos and see what type of videos gives you asmr.
My favorite Asmr artist is Massage asmr. If you feel asmr, I recommend you checking it out.

I listen to Stickerbrush Symphony from Donkey Kong Country 2 to relax. It is very melodic, has a calm energy instead of an excited energy that you would get from other music in that game.

I kinda like listening to meditational music (delta, theta waves etc.) especially before going to sleep, or when I'm reading something interesting or thinking of something interesting and creative.

When I'm going through deep stress I like to turn on one of those tunes and after an hour or so my head feels lighter and all my issues seem like less of a deal than before ^^

It's really fascinating as to how something so simple can be so powerful...

Here are some tunes for those, who're interested:

To relax, I love to listen to swing era jazz bands (IE, Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman,, swing era being from  the 1930's-around 1945) their music is very uplifting even though its upbeat and it helps to keep the listener focused on what they are doing, and also if they want to relax. (Glenn Miller went to Europe in 1942 to support troops with his music and was reported missing in 1944 when his plane went down over the English channel, would have been just as great as any artist going into the 60's) No one gives credit to jazz anymore, it died out for the most part with Sinatra, I just ask you to give these 2 a chance

I like to listen to music such as Tool for relaxing. Something with a hard rock genre feel to it, but played in a way that is soothing. Many would probably say this music pumps them up, but it has always calmed me down. Another good example would be When I'm Gone - 3 Doors Down. Anything along those lines with a similar feel always brings me some peace of mind
