Have you ever felt so alike with a video game character? Have you ever stopped playing for a sec and thought "Wow, this guy/girl is just like me..." While video game characters are fictional and do not exist, some have been based on people (or sometimes other characters) that the developers knew. As such, while they do not exist, video game characters are not always inhuman. It's really cool to find a character that you feel so alike with. It engrosses you more deeply into the story and you can also understand what that character must be feeling. This can really make you feel like you're in the story, and not just watching a drama being played out. So let me ask you, have any of you felt a strong connection with a video game character? Has their personality ever been so close to your own? Please let me know *flashes a peace sign*

For me, it would be Squall Leonhart from Final Fantasy VIII. I see a lot of myself in Squall and as such, I love the character to pieces. Squall is  introverted, anti-social, courageous, a leader and a loner. Just like me. Whenever I read Squall's dialogue on the screen, I say it to myself in quiet whispers because I feel such a connection with him. Every word he says just makes so much sense to me (albeit that isn't necessarily a good thing). Squall and I even like to dress the same (mainly leather with some fur also) and we have similar mannerisms like tending to stay in a corner at a social occasion or sitting alone in the back of a room away from other people. We both keep opinions to ourselves and most of the time when we talk, it's to ourselves.I could really feel like I was in Squall's shoes, for every step of Final Fantasy VIII. The connection was amazing.

So, what do you guys think?

There are a few characters I find myself identifying with. The first time I went through Ace Attorney; I discovered Phoenix was so like me it wasn't funny. Okay, well, it was funny. But then after I predicted what he would say next word for word I knew something was up.

And besides that, all of Team Chaotix can describe a lot of people really. x)

I wonder what the character limit on this thing is.

I've always felt like I could relate to Miles "Tails" Prower from the Sonic series.  He was always a bit quirky, being the smart one, and loving to invent and tinker with devices, and I always felt like I could relate to his "I want to impress my friends and be the best that I can be" attitude.

That's a very interesting question. I've played a lot of games and there were only a few characters I can identify with. My first role model was Lara Croft. She was so bad ass. When I was a little girl (around 9-ish), I would often have my hair done in a long braid like hers. I would go to my backyard or the garden of my house and pretend I was out on some grand adventure raiding some long forgotten tomb. I even asked my parents to change my nickname to Lara (didn't happen XD). I even believed that maybe one day my rack would grow to be as huge as hers (didn't happen XD) hahaha

But in all seriousness though, the character I can most identify with so far is Murphy Pendleton from Silent Hill: Downpour. As corny as it may sound, I feel like a tortured soul. Much like he is. I felt a deep connection with him once the story showed that he had such a great loss. He lost a loved one to some sick child killer. He loved his son so much and you can feel the grief within this character. I too had a great loss. Though, not as great as his. I lost my one and true best friend. No, she didn't die. She moved to Canada, but before she moved she stopped talking to me and cut off all communication. We were the best of friends; we were partners in crime; we were like sister-soul mates. So it was pretty much devastating to lose someone you cared about so much suddenly without any explanation why.

I also identify with Murphy because he is struggling to overcome his inner demons. He was so obsessed with revenge that he forgot he was hurting other people in the process, he divorced his wife and he was hurting himself in the long run. Much like him, I'm struggling to overcome my inner demons as well. There are some days when I don't feel very confident and I look down upon my achievements. There are some days when I feel lazy and don't want to do much. I'm struggling to improve myself and make myself better. I'm looking at my flaws straight in the eye and I tell myself to get my sh*t together.

Lastly, I identify with Murphy because his name sounds like the male version of my name -Marvie. hahaha

Without saying I felt a connection, I found Squall Leonheart to be endearing. I'm a lone wolf too (at least when the game was released) and loved his struggle to fight his feelings.

Cecil too was a good character. I always love to see his transformation into a paladin with the appropriate fanfare.

To be perfectly honest, even though I this layout has Shadow on it, I have to say that I'm most like Sonic. I love speed and feeling the wind as I'm going at high speeds (for me that thrill comes from roller coasters), and like Sonic, my weakness is... water.... Like Sonic, I can't swim. If I got washed out to sea, there's no way I'd survive. Because of that, I stay away from the sea, lakes, and deep pools.

I feel some connections with Snake from Metal Gear Solid. A bit dark and mysterious, but he knows how to get the job done. I like how he has the good guy mentality and does the right thing, even when it may require sacrifices. Where I lose him a little is that he may be very serious at times, and I tend to be silly or funny instead.

At least that is how I remember it, I haven't played that game in a while. I need the PSX item to play it though.

I'm like Kefka apparently. Mainly because I like to cause a bit of chaos and I can be pretty quirky at times.. Don't worry I won't be poisoning any cities soon.. But yeah.. That's the villain that I'm most like simply because if people talk to me a lot they know that most of the time I'm just a tad insane.. And well. I'm British I've got to be a villain somehow

I am going to have to say Dom from Gears of War. The dude acts like a total bad ass, which he is. I might not be a total bad ass, but I like to think that I can show my bad ass side if I am forced to that point. He's a soldier at heart, and protects the ones closest to him. I am a veteran, and would die for anybody who I consider close to me. He is also a misunderstood character in the beginning of the game. I think that I myself am a widely misunderstood guy, so that is just another thing we have in common.

I think the only things we don't have in common is the do-rag thing and the scar on the face ( I have a scar on my hand ) .

Without revealing too much, I'd say Link from Twilight Princess. I'll leave some details unexplained as they were left open to interpretation, and because they're a bit personal but some reasons include his quite demeanor (as always) as --despite being wordy online-- I'm an extremely quiet individual. Next his sense of a need to right everyone's problems if he's at all able, his sense of loyalty to his friends, and his dedication to his cause.

Funny how no one is really listing any outright bad traits that they feel like they share with characters. lol

Also as odd as it sounds, despite his genericness I've always felt attached to "Jack" (the male character you play as in Harvest Moon). He feels like me, probably largely due to the fact that he's left so generic and silent that he literally becomes a digitized version of yourself since he has no personality or traits outside of what you give him. And as such it really feels like I'm in the game in ways.

I've felt a connection to a few other characters in different ways and on various levels, but these two are the ones I feel I identify best with.

I think that would be Anders from Dragon Age 2 for me! I love him, but I also feel I'm like him a lot! Also maybe Isabella? If I were more of the person I wish I was.
