Freddy Fazbear and friends are back for another attempt to get you in Five Nights at Freddy's 2!
I got this game as an early Christmas present on Steam from my boyfriend after I played the first one with some of my friends. We never finished the first one, but oh how it scared us! At one point we knew Freddy was going to get us after the power cut off and we still jumped in fright!
But that's the first game. Let's talk about the second!
Five Nights at Freddy's 2 takes place in the new Freddy Fazbear's Pizza restaurant. Like the first game, you play as the night security guard. Working from 12am to 6am, your job is to keep watch over the restaurant for any unusual happenings. What you don't know is that the beloved animatronics come alive at night with the intention to hunt you down. Along with the new and improved Fazbear mascots, you'll have to deal with some old faces too. Just make sure you keep an eye on that music box...the toy hidden inside isn't one you would want to find within a Kinder Surprise...
Graphics - 8There's no doubt that this game has some amazing graphics for the efforts of one guy. The animatronics, settings and camera transitions are pretty in-depth, detailed and smooth. I feel there could've been some more detail added to the actual movement in the animatronics, as all of them are still imaging save for the death animations. This doesn't bring the game down overall, though. The graphics are still brilliant for such a game nonetheless
Sound - 9Sound is a crucial element to performing well in this game. Especially when checking the vents for animatronics. Playing with your sound on mute just isn't the same! A lot of the game's tension and atmosphere is created by the sounds of movement, breathing and the screams of an animatronic reaching you and ending the game. The lack of the music-box styled Toreador March that Freddy plays is now
replaced with the wind-up playing My Grandfather's Clock. A slight change, but still makes the game just as creepy. If you're wearing headphones, keep your volume low! I'm not responsible for any loss of hearing due to screaming rabbits or chickens!!
Addictiveness - 7I have mixed opinions about playing this game on a repetitive scale. I don't think this would be a game I'd play over and over again constantly. However, note that there is replay value to it. Especially with the custom nights, playing this game to find as many Easter eggs and seeing how many times you can get caught by Freddy and friends does give you some little extra things to do after you beat the main story. If you were as scared as I was playing this game, because horror games in general give me the shakes, there might be slight hesitation to playing this game again after the first two-three nights.
Story - 10
Like the original FNAF, the story might seem simple: Play as a night guard, check the restaurant, keep and eye on the animatronics, don't get killed. Simple, right? Well, the game may look that way but there is much more story to it. With many theories and speculations asking a variety of questions about the game and its story, everyone has their own ideas and views which makes it a great game for an exciting and interesting story.
Depth - 9Regarding how big the game is, it's not huge. With five main playable nights and a
selection of custom nights you unlock after the main game is completed. But what makes up for the short game is the content, not the actual game length. A wide
selection of animatronics, a number of Easter eggs, a deep story and a handful of mysteries to catch the player out. A perfectly deep game for those who love a lot of content!
Difficulty - 8Both FNAF and FNAF2 are just as difficult as each other. The patterns of all the animatronics are quite a challenge to get a grip on in comparison to the first one (come on, that game only had 4 animatronics!) but each one is unique and noticeable. Nonetheless this game is still really difficult. For anyone who gets to play Golden Freddy Mode, I wish you the best of luck because unless you are a god, it's gonna take a while to survive the full night!
Overall - 9.5Take it from a long-time horror player, Five Nights At Freddy's is one of the few games that have genuinely scared me to the point of having to close the game and go cry in a corner. (just kidding!)
Regardless, this game is scary but brilliant. Throughout most of the game I played lying on the floor hiding to the side of my laptop in case the blue thing jumps up at the camera and says 'boo'.
Or the kid with the balloon greets me and I refuse to greet him back.
I wasn't ready for Freddy, but with no doors, 3 entrances to your office and only your flashlight, a bear (Freddy's) mask and a wind-up on the side of a music box to keep you alive, are you ready for Freddy and his friends?
