We went in for a check up a few weeks ago but nothing interesting, just checked my wife's health. Not sure when her next appointment is but hearing the heart beat will be pretty exciting.

As for names, it's very unlikely we'll be naming our kid/s after video game characters, actually my wife seems to get the say in what names we'll be using (and most likely will be bible names).

Hmm, what was your first choice of a name? Based on that last statement, I'm guessing it WAS a video game name.

Oh, that's not what I was thinking. I thought you wanted Link, or something like that.

I think Rudy is a good name, though I highly dount that my opinion will change your wife's mind.

Yeah, I have that in mind lol. My wife and I have a book on baby names so we usually look up the meaning of the names we like, not that the meaning affects the kid but still fun to read about and to make sure it doesn't mean anything horrible like the names you pointed out.

the other thing you want to try and think about is how that name can be modified by other kids to make fun of your kid.

Just saying, don't give them anything too easy.... if it rhymes with a lot of other words it might not be a good choice. I can't think of anything right now.... but my wife and I tried to think about stuff like that while picking names. Gabriella doesn't really rhyme with much.

Geeogree: I never really thought about that but it's a really good idea. I do keep in mind how the names would be shortened into nicknames and a few names I turned down just because they'd be awful when shrunken down.

yeah, I mean last names are last names and you can't do anything about that. Mine has quite a few possiblities for being changed into other stuff that is less desireable (no one actually say my last name please )....

Not sure what yours got.... but pretty much as long as you dont' give your kid a name that can be combined with your last name to make something really bad then I doubt your kid will hate the name you pick out... or that she picks out

I hope to name my first girl Aislynn, and my first boy Timothy. I know it's kind of weird to be thinking about this so early, but those are two of my favorite names.

there is nothing wrong with having names picked out.... I had no idea what I wanted to name my kids... so the fact that you have an idea helps.

Although, my wife and I had an idea and when we saw our baby we both agreed the name was wrong... so you never know.

Yeah, there's always that chance. But, hopefully it'll work out. I wouldn't mind not being able to use Timothy as much as I would mind not being able to use Aislynn. I saw the name in a book three years ago, and I immediately knew that it was the name I wanted to give my future daughter.

Geeogree: Yeah last names are unavoidable and since mine is so weird, Auchampach, I was given a lot of nicknames like Hockey Puck, Chickenpach, Auckland or just Auch or Pach (to bad no one ever called me just 'champ' ).

It's definitely good to be prepared with at least 2 names though for either gender because sometimes a baby may not look like the name you originally were going to name them.

I would be called "Andrew Pyle of dirt" over and over at my old school (because of my last name) until some teacher at a later school said "PyGuy" would be more appropriate. I was never more proud and it became my online identity ever since.

Well, congratulations on becoming a Dad!

I'm gonna hijack your thread a bit and mention that my wife went for her first ultrasound today. I didn't go because it was right over top of Gabby's nap and we didn't want to mess up her schedule.

After all the tests and such there is a less than 1 in 20000 chance (or less) that the new baby will have any gene disorders like Down Syndrome and stuff like that. It's a relief when this test is done to hear that the chance of these is low. They ultrasound tech also said that as far as she can tell everything looks like it's right on. Everything is where it should be. she got pictures of everything she needed to. So far so good.

Now we just have to wait a couple months to find out the gender.

Oh, due date is now Aug 24th according to the ultra sound results. It was the 26th. Close enough

Geeogree: I could've swore you had a thread. Glad to hear that the test results were good though, I'm happy for you and your wife. Since my wife is probably only a week behind your wife, my wife should be able to get hers soon I'm hoping.
