Just wanted to announce that my wife is pregnant, due September 4th!

It's going to be really weird having a kid but I'm very excited. And yes, it was planned.

Geeogree: I always seem to be about 2 years behind you on these things
And thanks, I'll love everything except for the diaper changing lol.

xfighter: We've got a bunch of names picked out but we're still looking into names. We're pretty sure we know what we want if it's a boy but not sure about girl names yet. And thanks.

EvanHaigh: Thank you sir.

speaking of diaper changes.... get in as many as you can before the baby starts eating normal food. Breast milk/forumla diapers are by FAR better to change than normal food diapers. And make sure to get as much credit for those as possible!

How has the wife been? Has she been sick at all? She's already 2 months in so the worst of the morning sickness should be coming to an end soon (for most women).

A few weeks ago before we knew she was pregnant, she was up all night puking, she spent like 10+ hours straight puking every 20 or so minutes. Surprisingly she's been fine since, a few little sicknesses here and there but nothing major.

I've never changed a diaper in my life so I gotta ask, did you gag or anything when you change your babies diapers?

more now than I ever did early on. It kind of depends on your sense of smell and your control of your gag reflex. I find that since she started eating solid food that they've gotten worse and worse. There have been a few days that Gabby had some spicy rice stuff and the diaper the next day was BRUTAL.

Diapers are not as bad as they're made out to be. As long as you're prepared for it. Don't stress too much about it. I personally think that having a kid when you're ready to and you made the choice helps the parents to be more ready than if it just happens.

And that's ROUGH about the puking. My wife never had it that bad. She puked a few times depending on what she ate. It wasn't anything specific that did it (except seafood) so we sort of just played it by ear .

[edit] oh.... any cravings so far? Those are always interesting. Julie craved cookie dough, steak, bagels, oranges, cake, pickles, ice cream.... I'm sure there are others that we just can't remember right now.

I have a really weak stomach and an incredibly strong sense of smell, so changing diapers will take a while to get use to. But yeah, this was planned, my wife and I were definitely ready to take things further and try for a baby and thankfully we were successful right away. I didn't want to be any older than 25 when having my first baby and I'll be 25 when the baby is born so it'll work out perfectly.

The weird thing about my wife's puking was that it was only a single night and that was it. It was pretty scary though, she was dehydrating and anything she drank she puked back up, thank God it was only 1 night though but I'm sure a lot is still to come.

As for cravings, she's been craving fish more and really craving pickles. She's having troubles drinking most beverages because her taste buds are all messed up but she's been craving and drinking water and milk a ton more than she use to.

We've been doing tons of research and spending money on all kinds of vitamins and foods that she needs, been focusing on making sure the baby and my wife are very healthy.

Since you're one of the only experts on the board with the subject, any other advices you can give me? Anything helps

listen to the cravings. I'm personally convinced that cravings are the bodies way of telling you what the baby needs. It may not make sense at the time but the baby goes through different phases of growth and it needs different things at different times.

A good multi-vitamin should be all you need. A pre-natal one with extra folic acid. Other than that just do your best to get her to eat as healthy as possible and to stay as hydrated as possible. And use common sense in your decisions. Go with your instinct and you're usually okay.

As for diapers.... good luck . The early diapers are the least smelly. Quite often is sort of a sickly sweet smell, like rotting fruit... sort of. Once the solid food starts going in then the diapers are start to really stink. Imagine your worst poop.... and then leave it in a diaper against a warm body... it can be pretty bad .

Not sure what else to tell you. Oh, is your wife planning on nursing or are you planning to do formula? If she's nursing and going to be pumping (you'll learn all about it.... and it's the most unsexy thing ever ) then you'll want to start giving the baby a bottle from day one and consistently give them one on a daily basis. That was you or someone else can feed the baby and your wife can sleep extra or get out of the house for a couple hours without having to worry about feeding the baby....

That's all I got for now. I don't want to dominate the thread too much with my talking about baby stuff

Wow that is shocking Congrats but... your time is getting eaten up Soon it will be impossible to spot you on here cause you will be even busier with the baby Good luck with the baby and the poo isn't a decent smell, if you go to wal-mart you can get a small preview of whats in store cause there are usually babies there and it smells horrible.

Maybe you should buy incense that might help, and light it up before changing the baby

I wouldn't recommend that personally.... you want to have as little as possible around that will bother the baby

You're better off finding a nose plug than trying to use candles or incense or anything like that.

You son will be like the only 7 year old mod (why 8? Its takes 1 year for the baby to came out ) .

But diper changing is like looking in a toliet bowl with poop , easy if you go swimming (meaning hold your breath ) often .

Also I going to do something *preys that daveieo07 son will like sonic more then mario* .

Didowe, you're fired.

Let's all hope he or she likes Epic Mickey best. A quote from that page;

Well congratulations, David. This is quite the news. Must be pretty exciting for you. As far as nursing goes, you may want to have your wife breast feed as much as possible. Breast milk contains more essential nutrients that the baby needs to develop including the brain, which is why children grow up to be very smart. I also recommend you have your wife eat salmon on occasion during pregnancy. It has good protein, but the major benefiting factor is the Omega-3 acid, which is also extremely great for neuron insulation in the brain. That means the brain will retain more information and transmit it faster.

Your wife should be getting into exercising if she already isn't. The more fit she is the healthier the baby will be when it is born. Geogree already mentioned some of the other things I would have told you. I will stress on the multi-vitamins though.

So now comes the quesion: will you get your kid to register at Vizzed once it's old enough and the board is still around.

Congratulations David, this is great news.

I second Geeo on the nappy's not smelling bad until the little one is on solids. I've baby sat randomly when I've visited the family for a week and I've definately noticed a difference in the smell that comes from the nappy.
I find airing the room out a little before changing the nappy gets rid of most of the smell, but you also have to pay attention to what the weather is like (eg. dont air the room out in winter).

Are you and your wife going to find out the sex of your baby before he/she is born or you going to leave it as a surprise for afterwards?
Congratulations David, this is great news.

Wow lots of replies lol.

Geeogree: I agree, some cravings I think are the bodies way of saying what it needs. I remember hearing a story about a guy who got stuck on the boat and had no source of certain vitamins and the only food he had was fish, he than started to crave weird parts of the fish like the eyes which actually contained some of the vitamins he needed to stay alive but he didn't know that he simply craved it and ate it and only survived because of it.

Drinking tons of water is very important so I'm making sure she stays hydrated. She's also on 2 different vitamins. I've also been making sure she gets plenty of fish or another source of Omega-3 because I view that as being incredibly important for the baby's brain development.

We do plan to nurse, I know it'll seem weird but it just seems like the healthier choice. You can come back later and give more advice

Flibbith: Thanks

Lowell: Yeah, I usually try to stay healthy myself. Surprisingly, last time my wife and I went shopping to Walmart, we bought nothing but healthy feed and some how we only spent a little over $150, we usually spend nearly $250 for a 2 weeks supply of food.

JigSaw: Thanks. I think I'm going to slowly let my senses adjust. At first I'll wear gloves and a face mask so that only my sense of sight is witnessing the horror of changing. Once I'm adapted, I'll probably expose my sense of smell to the horror. Once I'm adapted to that, I'll expose my poor hands to the horror and once I'm use to that, I'll be good to go....some how I have a feeling it's not going to be that easy though

I probably will be busier but it could encourage more posting at different hours since the baby will require taking care of at any hour of the night.

Didowe: Still debating whether I'll expose my kid to the internet at such a young age or not. I'm really hoping to limit my kid on TV and computers, I'd rather he develop an imagination by playing with toys and being creative and being active. Of course, I will get him/her into creative stuff on the computer but I just don't want that to be something he does 6+ hours a day. I will raise him/her to be a gamer though so that I got someone else in the house to play competitive against who's equal at my level. I started gaming at 3 years old (and I was honestly good, I have pictures of myself), so just a few years before I can get my kid into gaming, but again, I don't want that to be something which consumes his/her day. Oh, and I think I'll introduce games to him in order in which I played them, starting with NES

Also, surprisingly I can hold my breath for a long time, longer than most people but I find it easier to just get a face mask of some sort which blocks off most or all smells.

Cyro Xero: Thanks, it is pretty exciting. Yeap, definitely going make sure plenty of Omega-3 gets entered into her body and will be breat feeding unless complications arise from that. Last time we went to Walmart, we bought Salmon and some other fish.

At some point I'll have my kid register to the board but there's just so much stuff on the internet that kids shouldn't be exposed to so I'll try my best to monitor him/her when he/she does go on. But yeah, I would imagine that eventually my kid would become a Mod but it would really be hard to not show favoritism toward my own kid so it would be tough to deal with that. Vizzed Board has been around for about 8 hours so I expect it to be around another 8 years

Solehite: Thanks. Yeah I'm hoping to have a special room dedicated for changing the diaper so the smell can be contained. Right now Deanna and I are renting the downstairs of her parents basement so we've got only 2 rooms, one is our bedroom and the other is computer room. The crib will probably be in our room but if we had to, we could also move my computer to the living room (big enough) and make half the computer room for the baby; we're still not decided about everything yet.

I would like a surprise but I am pretty excited to find out the gender ahead of time. I've heard about them messing up on the gender so that part kind of concerns me but I do want to know the gender as soon as possible. My wife goes in to the doctor in 6 days so basically this is when we'll find out how well the pregnancy is going and maybe an ultra sound but that's about it (and if it were twins, we'd find that out as well).
