The show premiered sometime last year on the Syfy (still angry about the spelling change) channel. When I first saw the commercials showcasing it's premiere I was a hesitant to give it a shot because I was afraid it would fall short of my expectations and comparison to The Walking Dead. Since I love zombies as much as the next nerd/geek I knew I had to at least give it a shot, and boy am I glad I did.

The only real similarity of The Walking Dead and Z Nation is that they both are about post-apocalyptic zombie outbreaks. Z Nation did a really good job at coming up with different story lines, as well as different ideas when it comes to the zombies. This show is also much more comical than The Walking Dead, but still has that epic intensity at the same time. I was pleasantly surprised and pleased with this show, and I recommend every one give it a shot if you are looking for another adrenaline filled, action/zombie show.

Oh and the guy from The New Guy and Garth from Supernatural (DJ Qualls) is in it as well. I'm not sure how anyone else feels about this guy, but I think he is pretty hilarious.

Anyways if you have already seen it let me know what you thought about it, and if you haven't check it out. It is worth it!

wolf742 : I actually agree with everything you said, even down to the name change (I pronounce is See Fee, to vocalize my dislike ).

*Slight Spoliers!*  (I typed most of this and just realized I could be spoiling some stuff.)

Yeah, at first it just looked like a gimmicky zombie show. Zombie bears, zombie tornadoes, zombie babies, which really tuned me out. But, I decided to give it a chance, and was pleasantly surprised. There are still some zombie setting stereotypes, like people being more dangerous and the protect the person who is immune. Now, where I think this show shines, is that they break the stereotype that the immune person is cooperative. In this show, there's no other to put it, he's kind of a jerk. An uncooperative, selfish jerk. Now, everyone has to protect him, because he could be the cure, but they do not like it. He's lazy, annoying, whiny, and they all have to cater to him, but they hate it. I think that's my most favorite part... Then some weird stuff starts happening, and it gets kind of crazy... Zombie bears, man... Zombie bears.

Definitely check it out, I'm looking forward to more seasons!

I just remembered Eugene from Walking Dead... Well, he was a dorky, good-natured jerk.

I have only watched a couple of episodes. I plan on watching it, but my mom says it flip flops to good and bad content. So I am not sure if I should watch it.

F. Starr :
                                                                  [Spoiler Alert]
I don't know if you are completely caught up on The Walking Dead or not, but in the more recent episodes Eugene has started to grow on me. He's starting to be less of a "scaredy cat" (that was difficult to describe without being at least semi-vulgar) and much more of contributing member of the group.

Going back to Z Nation, I also enjoy how jerky and uncooperative the immune character is. It makes the show feel more realistic; you know if the zombie apocalypse was to actually occur. About the zombie babies, tornadoes, and bears, these were also a nice change of what I am used to. Hopefully you have gotten to this point, hence why I have the spoiler alert warning above, but one of my favorite episodes of the show was the one that had the "boner" zombies. That was the funniest thing I have seen in a long time.

F. Starr : This might just hijack the thread but you mentioned stereotypes and the part about humans being more dangerous than zombies.

You don't think humans are going to be more dangerous than zombies if anything like that happened?  Think of today.  Of all the animals that can kill people, humans do it in numbers waaaay bigger than probably all other animals combined.  Humans rationalize, form factions and group, respect violence and power, and generally have the know-how and the aggression to kill everyone else to make things happen.  It's politics, it's how most of our history was made, it's what we do.

Humans do violence.  Look at our history.  Everything is done through violence.

Anyway, another zombie tv show.  That's cool as long as they don't let the human part interfere with the zombie part.  Walking Dead is way to guilty of doing that.  50 minutes of people talking, 3 minutes of zombies.  Yuck

warmaker : You are entitled to your opinion, and I am actually glad you posted something like this. Makes things more interesting.
I agree that in an extremely major situation, especially one such as the zombie apocalypse, people would be the bigger threat rather than (in this case) zombies. On the other hand, I am wondering if you have continued watching The Walking Dead all the way up to the end of this recent season. If so, I am confused why you are so disappointed by the show when you seem so passionate about humans being worse than zombies because for the last two or three season The Walking Dead have done a brilliant job at illustrating this very situation.

As for the topic at hand, Z Nation has the talking/traveling stuff within the zombie mutilating, but there is a lot less of it. The best way I can describe it is intense zombie action with humor, mystery, and a little horror mixed together.

As I was reading the post, I was already formulating a sentence in my head that went along the lines of "If its funnier than the walking dead, maybe I will give it a shot" and then boom, you said it was comical. I'll be honest, I on saw 2 or 3 episodes of the walking dead and I don't like it too much, but the idea of a comical show like this makes me a bit curious as to what it can be like so I'm also going to give it a shot as well.

I actually like the show (although I like the walking dead).

Oh and btw Netflix picked up this show for currently streaming the 1st season.

Btw, that guy needs to be in more Supernatural episodes.

zanderlex : Awesome, now you can binge watch it via Netflix! About The Walking Dead, it takes a little while to actually pick up. Once it does make sure you don't have any plans for the next week or so. If you are anything like me when it comes to finding good TV shows on Netflix, you will do nothing but watch said show. Okay now that I've confused everyone...  Going back to Z Nation, I was not expecting to laugh as much as I did while watching it.

UraNuS : I'm not entirely sure why, but I couldn't help but read your post in a Russian accent. Anyways, I have an app on my phone that allows me to keep up with what episode I am on with each show that I watch, as well as allow me to find shows that I want to start from the beginning and watch. Another feature that app has is to let me know when a show is going to come back on. Unfortunately there is still nothing being said about if/when the show will come back on. Upon further research I have found out that the show has been renewed for another season and the only news about the return date that I found was Fall 2015. Which means it could be returning anytime now since fall is upon us.

[Spoilers]
tRIUNE: I am also an avid Walking Dead fan, but I was pleasantly surprised about how much I actually enjoyed this show. Also, I appreciate the info about it being on Netflix now. I wouldn't mind re-watching some time in the future. As for "the guy" that needs to be in more Supernatural episodes, I absolutely agree. It would be even more interesting now with his current situation, being a were wolf and all. Hopefully you are caught up on the show and I don't spoil anything for you. One more thing about Supernatural, I love that Felicia Day keeps popping up in episodes every so often. I've loved her since I saw her in Eureka.

Ohh, that's right I forgot about that deal with 'Garth' was his name and the werewolf ordeal.

Also about Felicia Day, I agree. I think it would be cool to see her in season 2 of Z Nation.

If Felicia Day were to be in Z Nation it would probably be one of my favorite shows for that alone. Beside the fact that it is a fantastic show.

And about Garth, it would be interesting to know if he is still a hunter or not. If so I have a feeling being a werewolf would have its advantages against the many different enemies that Supernatural contains.
One other thing, did you happen to read my message to UraNus about the fate of Z Nation?

I didn't entirely read the post you made towards UraNus, but I'm assuming the app you have is from the site: http://on.syfy.com/.

In California we are in the month of May, so not Fall yet.

I haven't heard about this one I will defiantly check it out when I have time. Thank you because I was actually trying to find another zombie series. c:

tRIUNE : The app that I have was found on the Google Play store called Twee. It allows me to add as many shows as I want and I can check off each episode I have seen of each show. As for it being May in California, it is May everywhere in the world too. That being said I am unsure when Fall actually starts unfortunately.

Bintsy : I'm glad I was able to help you find another show you have been looking for. I hope you like it as much as I do. Also, somewhere in this forum someone has informed us that the first season has been picked up by Netflix. I sense a binge watching marathon in our midst.

Bintsy : I'm glad I was able to help you find another show you have been looking for. I hope you like it as much as I do. Also, somewhere in this forum someone has informed us that the first season has been picked up by Netflix. I sense a binge watching marathon in our midst.
