Please close this if there's an existing one. Anyway, welcome back to another video games thread! Around the world, many, but many people enjoy video games. So, I've been wondering to you, gamers. Did video games ever teach you a life lesson? Video games taught me a lot of things, and without them, I wouldn't have been the person I am today. Video games taught me that when we encounter the enemy, that means we're following the right path. It expended a lot my creativity, and I always extend my AU (Alternate Universe). It also taught me that imagination is very important.

So, Vizians, did video games ever teach you something? Post your opinions below!

Video games thought me many things......
Main one being...... you can never trust anyone, even in co-op :V

One that actually has a place with my personality, be care-free. Greatest lesson I've learned.

Video games taught me that I apparently like robots? :V (JK)

On a serious note, it taught me eye hand coordination, how to look for hidden stuff, and that the good guys always wins no matter once .

greenluigi : Imagination! *insert Spongebob reference here* Yea, video games also made me super imaginative.

I don't know how many say this, but video games actually taught me the mechanics of how to drive. It turned to be quite useful, especially with me being so smart in math. All driving is is angles and math.

Funny enough, one of the biggest things video taught me is how to read. Especially Legend of Zelda. Considering how much I love reading and writing, this is a pretty big thing. Guitar Hero, of all things, also taught me to have more appreciation of music in video games, which is also pretty big in my life nowadays.

Yes. Of course, video games have taught me things.

I've been reminded of how words that I already know are spelled. The words I encounter when I play Pokémon can sometimes be ones other people don't know how to spell or don't know about so it is very useful to be reminded of how to spell them and that they exist.

Mario Bros has taught me that mushrooms are healthy. It showed me that star power makes you invincible and that is why I like the idea of becoming famous.

Winning Eleven taught me the strategies of how to score goals in soccer and that the best ways to check someone and avoid getting a penalty are standing straight up, stopping the ball and going for an interception.

Death Worm has taught me that if the creatures from the movie Tremors show up, we aren't necessarily totally screwed but tons of people will die - mostly military personnel.

Mr. AahH has taught me judgement and timing skills necessary for making a Spider-Man swing.

As for life lessons:

Pokémon has taught me to be prepared for anything before I make an attempt.

Pokémon has taught me to start small and build up strength gradually to face life's challenges.

Pokémon has taught me to talk to people I encounter because it can be interesting and useful at the same time.

Pokémon has taught me not to run away from people who challenge me. It literally is not an option. I can run away from wild animals who attack me but not people. Stand and fight.

Pokémon has taught me that no matter much money I lose or waste on things, I can always make more.

Mario Bros has taught me that even a plumber can do amazing things. It is perfectly fine to wear work overalls to do heroics rather than spandex or leather.

Crash Team Racing has shown me that no matter what odds are against me, I may still find the opportunity to rise above them and win the day.

Just about everything I have ever played says something about how luck plays a pivotal role in everything we do.

Without a heavy amount of (good) television to watch. Video games were my choice form of entertainment aside from the good ole imagination.

I could list several things that video games have effected in my life, and I do think that they are the ultimate form of entertainment. But to list the greatest.

- The value of story.

I'm serious. I know most games are known for their gameplay, but I find that games with compelling stories are the most attracting.

Story adds depth to a character. It make you love them. Want to play as them. this is why a less than great game will sell so long it's based on a franchise of beloved characters.

If you want to move people. Make a story. Tell a great one. Develop characters. And make a moral point. No, don't just splash it in their face with a cheesy line. Tell it subtly, through actions. That's what the best story writers will tell you.

No video game had a story that really moved me, but many of them gave me deep things to think about. Particularly Sonic and some of Zelda. Paper Mario comes to mind. The moral situations made me think about some things and gave me a stronger, if not better perspective on life.

Oh yeah, and bad Sonic games have taught me not to rush art. (or else it will suck)

I may post here later again if I get more ideas, but for now, I'm shot.

Dark knight of the blackened sun. I am Sword Legion, one of many. My mask is thick, and my armor is strong. All the more necessary in a world such as this. . .

After playing video games for the last few years, I have noticeably better reflexes and coordination. A specific instance would be completing the first Portal, I gained a lot of logic and problem solving skills from that game. Overall, I think that video games have taught me a lot.

I know I've learned a lot of my stuff from video games or the internet but to really pinpoint something specifically that I learned can be quite hard because you might have learned it from video games then remember it in science class (even if its literature its always science class where you'll remember it) then associate whet you remembered with that class (I'm sure I either sounded really smart really stupid or just plain trying to hard) but I did learn from persona 5 that Ja Ne meant like see you later in Japanese and Tomagatchi was not only a game but it also means friend in Japanese. Parasite Eve taught me the Mitochondria can live on its own because it is its own being, it might sound cliché but Kingdom hearts taught me to truly cherish friendships. And Final Fantasy 6 taught me not to cast the same element a enemies is absorbent to on it 0,o.

Video games (and TV too) is basically how I learned English. Since I preferred RPGs to any other kind of games, I of course had to read a lot. Hell, I even read the Sonic the Hedgehog instruction manuals just to improve my English too!

That made English classes so much easier for me. I remember in secondary 1 (grade 7), I was part of this accelerated English program and I got 98 percent in the secondary 3 final exam! That has helped me quite a bit in life; I'm even a full-time writer in English!

Never underestimate the power of video games

Playing video games has given my very good hand-eye coordination. And since I'm starting to play fighting games a lot more lately, I've started getting better at reading people and what they might do.

pokemonfan2 : Does it really help that much? Because when I "really" started playing at age 10, I had such a hard time playing Sonic the Hedgehog 2, even though the Sega Genesis controller is a good fit for my large hands.

I have learned a couple things from video games.
I use 2 play yu-gi-oh a lot back in the day and i couldn't seem 2 get very many wins with my cards, i knew i had good cards so i figured that their might be something wrong with my strategy. When i got the yu gi oh game for my game boy i entered my deck and was having the same problem with winning in the game also. I learned what cards i should keep in my deck and what cards 2 remove from it and what cards 2 add in. After i made a winning deck in the game, i went and bought all the cards that i didn't have on ebay and amazon. With the deck i made i was able 2 win the local tournament at the comic book store.  So video games taught me card strategies.

Video games also taught me how 2 travel into the future. All i have 2 do is start playing a awesome video game and within what feels like a few mins i will end up 3 hours in the future.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
