I randomly bought The Sims 2: Pets some years ago and I'm glad I did. It is really a fun game. All the Sim games are great, but in this one, not only do you get to build a home, career, and network of friends for your Sims, but you get to have pets! You can create a pet from scratch and choose its, breed, colors, and personality. There is even pet shop and other pet stores at the pet park that you can adopt from, buy treats from, and buy furniture and toys for your furry friends. How cool is that? You start of with a few houses in a neighborhood (named by you) with families in it, which means you get to decorate more than one home control a number of groups of Sims and their pets. My favorite part is building homes from scratch. There are so many textures, flooring, walling, and furniture to choose from. You can decorate outside as well as inside and build your own walls. The possibilities are limitless.
Creating Sims is another part I love. You can change their body type, skin color, clothes, and so much more. There is a lot to choose from. Your Sims can also work and have a job of YOUR choice. They learn skills by doing a variety of things and studying which allows them to get better at doing tasks and earn promotions at work. The more their jobs pay, the more money they have and more stuff they can buy! But don't buy too much stuff or your house might catch on fire!
You have to take care of your Sims and make sure they are taking care of themselves by eating, sleeping, bathing, and keeping the house tidy or them will become very unhappy and faint. Your Sim pets are like real pets and need to be well fed and seen to as well. You will have to clean up after them, replace the things they destroy, and keep them happy by giving them attention. Fortunately, once you have enough money, you can hire a maid to help you out.
Graphics 9 The graphics in this game are awesome. They are very life-like, clear and realistic. The textures and naturalness is really great, you will really feel like your families and their homes are real.
Sound 9 Sound in this game is great as well, and accurate. The part I cant really get over is the way that the Sims talk, and wait until you hear the music they play and listen to!
Addictiveness 10 This game is like a drug. I never got tired of playing this game (well maybe a little), and the only reason I stopped is because my game disc got messed up and freezes up during game play. (sob)
Story 7 The story is a bit hard define and rate in this game, because the truth is, the story is pretty much in your head; you create your Sims' life and background and decide where they have been and where they are going. The stories are never-ending.
Depth 10 I give the depth such a high rating because there is so much to see, do, and unlock in this game. It is vast. There are so many things that can happen. You can get burglarized, get uninvited guests, even get married. There are a lot of surprises and challenges, the game never finishes or stops.
Difficulty 6 What makes this game difficult at all is keeping all your Sims and their pets happy and growing. It will take some effort before you are able to spoil your Sims by buying a bunch of cool stuff, decorating an attractive home, and being able to afford more pets and the nicer things in life.
Overall, I rate The Sims 2: Pets 9.7. I can't tell you how many hours I've spent building, decorating, and cleaning up in this game. I really enjoyed the realness of it. Like in real life, in this game, your Sims have to work hard for what they want and their happiness. They have unique personalities and develop skills that help them do their work at home and at their jobs that help them do well. It sort of takes you out of the struggle and tiresomeness of your own everyday life and takes you into the lives of characters of our own creation with a lot of humor and some things that are not so realistic. If you enjoy simulation games and are a person who still has a PS2 game system, you have to check out and buy this game. You will love it.
