On Cave Story DC, all data is erased if you close the game or die, even just once. The Dreamcast emulator really needs a save state function because of this stuff. I'm trying to get screenshots for Cave Story, but because it deletes your save, it's hard to.

This can be a simple solution of backing up the native save. I tried getting the native save for this game so that I could list here the directory it would be in on your PC, but I couldn't find where to save in-game.

With Sonic Adventure 2, the save data is vmu_data_port01.bin which is located in this directory:

C:ProgramDataVizzedVizzedRgrPluginUser-*****nullDC

(replace ***** with your user ID)

Anyways, could you say where to save in-game? (the save-states will most likely not be implemented as far as I know)

In-game saves are in other words save points. Are there any save points in Cave Story?

Edit:

I think your point is that Dreamcast needs save states?

tRIUNE : Yes, there are save points. I've used them. Closing the game though and hitting load deletes them.

Okay so, I found the save point (there was one right at the beginning of the game ) but this game seems to not emulate the VMU (save data).

I'm thinking that the file of this game might have been compiled incorrectly, and I'm going to attempt compiling it myself to see if the VMU problem is fixed... just thought I would post an update, not sure when I will have time to do this though. Maybe within a couple days I'll post back here with the results.

tRIUNE : Thanks for that. By the way, I need to ask: How do you implement saves onto Vizzed? Like, I wanna download a save for a game, but I don't know how to import the file to make it work on Vizzed. Nevermind read one of your earlier posts in this thread. But, I'm in the folder you mentioned, and I'm not seeing a folder called Program data, I went into program files (x86), thinking that's what you're referring to, I was right. However, I also don't see a folder called user, nor NullDC.

The directory of the RGR Plugin data is going to be different if you have Windows XP. For Windows vista, windows 7, 8, and above, the directory was changed to ProgramData.

The directory for Windows XP is this:
C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataVizzedVizzedRgrPluginUser-436855nullDC

With what was said in my last reply, in addition you can use downloaded save files if they have the file extension .vmu

Other save file formats can be converted to VMU though.

tRIUNE : So, I got the .VMU file, but, the save itself isn't working. I boot the game, and no save comes up. Pic related.

I.m pretty sure the save file needs to be in BIN (.bin) format to work with the RGR Plugin.

I see you have a file SA2.vmu which I'm assuming is the save file you're trying use? (also I see that you know of VMUExplorer)

None of this helps with Cave Story Dreamcast.

tRIUNE : I should probably rename the thread or something, haha. But, yes it is. I'm actually just using that save as a placeholder, that's really it. I want to see if I can find a Cave Story DC save online. It's doubtful, but maybe. After editing the .VMU to .Bin, it works. I'm gonna see if I can find a file for Cave Story DC.
