My English professor gave back our essay drafts today that we gave in on Thursday and apparently mine was amazing. It still had maybe like 20 edits to either get rid of a word or merge two paragraphs together but I automatically got a 100 on it even though another draft is required and then the final paper which for me would be extra credit.

It just so happens that my paper was about something that happened here on vizzed and the teacher said it was one of the most interesting.

What's the best English paper you did?

Would you mind telling us exactly what it was about on Vizzed? My best English paper was about the history of video games, and how they started. My friends kept arguing with me that the Atari 2600 was the first video game console, but I kept telling them that it was actually the Magnavox Oddeyssy...not sure how to spell that. I wrote the paper last year in 7th Grade, and it remains one of my favorites.

Perfect paper and I'm not summoned? Am I not perfect!?

On a side note.

My best paper so far was a persuasive essay. It was about on how to get the class quiet. Most reasonable thing to do? Make it an ad for a megaphone. Included tons of jokes, logic, and horrible writing. Got a 100% on it. I r smart.

Oh that's awesome zander! Congrats on the great grade! Growing up my teachers said I had the best essays, I can't recall any by name at the moment but when I went in to get my GED I had to do a lot of restuding in Language Arts and creating essays in general. I had to many A's though I stopped counting. Keep up the great work

Congratz on getting a perfect score on that essay. I can't recall a time that I got an absolute perfect score on an English essay. I had some good English essays, but unfortunately I can't remember what any of them were about because I don't have the best memory, and I haven't been to school since I graduated high school.

I find it funny how Vizzed actually contributed to your classwork. With me it's always been the opposite.

I've never received a perfect score on a paper. I was always in the 84-92 range with a few higher and lower. I feel like my writing style is slightly too formulaic, and that's why I could never get those last few points (but I couldn't lose that many either).

On the other hand, my writing style does (and continues to) help me in writing scientific papers, like lab reports.

EideticMemory : I think my teacher really loves my work. Today I told her that I won't be able to get my textbooks for another 4 weeks at least and she said that I will easily be able to make it up and she winked.

Probably the best paper I've ever written was a 10-paragraph one I wrote recently for an online class. IT WAS SUPER DIFFICULT, but with my father's help, I got it done. I wouldn't have gotten it done without him. I am very pleased with how it turned out, but I know it could have been better if I had paced myself more.

supernerd117 : 10 paragraphs? What was that, about 2 pages? I think the one I did was about that length too. I kind of feel that if you get help working on a paper and you like the way that it turns out, then it's probably better than just writing it on your own because it kind of has more of a connection with the effort.

According to my professors, the best paper (essay, at least) I wrote during college was actually a descriptive essay. Our assignment had been to find anything to write about, then turn it into at least a 3 page paper.

I went outside, blindfolded myself so that I couldn't even see light (which...didn't take much, considering I am legally blind), and listened to the college campus for an hour and a half. Then I wrote an essay based on what I heard, felt, and smelled during my hour and a half of immobility and complete silence. The kicker was that I wrote it from the perspective of a dandelion that I had sat down in front of, so I included myself in what I heard and felt, as I know I shadowed the dandelion and that if it could hear, it would have heard me breathing.

I didn't even have to write a final draft. I handed my first draft in and the next day it got handed back with a bright 100 scrawled across the top in purple pen and the note that the first draft would function as my final draft, I didn't have to do anything else to it. Apparently writing as though I had been a sightless dandelion instead of a human being got me major points with my professor. I just wrote it like that because it seemed to be more of an interesting perspective and gave me MORE MATERIAL to write about. My paper wound up being seven single-space pages long. Hand-written, so probably way less typed, but still. I was really proud of myself for that. XD

Yunimori : Wow, I don't think I could ever do something like that, after just a couple of minutes I would forget half of the stuff that I came up with and I would easily lose attention and I would never want to sit in one place and just do nothing for that long.

Also, you're legally blind?

First of all, congratulations! Considering your problems in other classes this must have been a welcomed good news.

Concerning me now, the best language-specific essay I've written (in French) was in Secondary 5 (Grade 11) where I got over 90 percent. I was so proud as the subject was very inspiring. I haven't written enough essays in English to make a good comparison, but I remember succeeding quite well in Poetry.

janus : Well this is one of the classes that I am having the most problems in. I already missed 5 diferent homework assignments for this clas as well as the midterm since I don't have any of the books so it's a pain really as this is the only good thing to come out of this class, well, aside for the girls maybe.

zanderlex : Still, any good news is welcomed, right?

As for the books: you weren't even able to find them in a library? School material is usually easy to find there.

janus : The library has them, but they are class books, so all of the copies are already taken out and for one of them, there's a list of about 2 dozen people waiting for it. I'm not even sure some of the people who are on that list will even be able to get the book before the school year ends.
