Hey, people from the land of V! Green here with another thread! So, what do you prefer? Games or Manga? Now, don't reply yet, because I think now you'll share your general opinion on them. Wait till this thread finishes.

So, video game franchises such as Pokemon, Mario, Zelda, and some others have a game counterpart, and a manga counterpart, right? That's what I mean here. For a franchise, do you prefer its video game counterpart, or manga counterpart?

For example, I prefer Pokemon games better than the manga because its manga counterpart seems boring to me. But, I prefer Zelda mambas more than games, to be honest, because they are more interesting, more romance, funnier, and most importantly... LINK HAS A VOICE !

So, what do you prefer in a franchise? Its game, or manga counterpart?

Games, games, games, games. Well, mostly. There are some nice comics that came with a sucky asterix game, so, yeah.

This is a bit tricky. It largely depends on the franchise for me.
In fact, I have the exact opposite opinion of  you, greenluigi.
I enjoy the manga and games for Pokemon, but I love the manga more, because it fleshes out better with its story.
However, I dislike most of the Zelda manga (Except Four Swords) because of the exact opposite reason. Majora's Mask is a prime example. It cut out so much that it just felt small in comparison to the game, which it had so much to it.

This is definitely the easiest question I've answered all day. I would definitely choose the game counterpart because to be honest, I've never liked reading manga. In fact I'm not a huge fan of reading comic books either. Games on the other hand have always been a huge part of my life.

Game, even as much as I love manga in general and certain video game manga a LOT. *looooooking at you, Kingdom Hearts and .hack manga series, yep*

I prefer the interactivity, mostly, and the fact that there is more to the game than the manga. I adore the Kingdom Hearts manga art style, though, and sort of lends credibility to my head canon that he's WAY younger than 14 at the start o the games. I mean, look at the kid, he has baby face and baby voice and baby EVERYTHING, no way he's a 14 year old boy. 10, maybe, 12 if I squint, but 14? Nuh-uh. No 14 year old boy I have EVER seen is that much of a little tyke in looks.

The game, because let's face it, no manga counterpart would seem nearly as cool if we didn't have the game to compare it to. At least, for most.

I'm going to have to go with the game, because with a manga, you're always restrcted to see how it unfolds, but that's not the case with a game. When you are playing a game, sure you are following the same set story most likey, but you are usually freely able to do whatever you want in between one point and the other, and there's always room to do something awesome, which is why I will almost always pick the game over the manga.

greenluigi : I choose Manga as I enjoy this pictures and the increasment of story line and character development don't get me wrong lot's of games focus on that stuff but as a bookworm I just prefer reading them more than playing them like pokemon I love the manga versions because they interest me more than the games. And this was a hard choice since manga and games cannot contain everything the same like soundtracks and such.

I like games, because you are in the story yourself. It's so much more of an experience than manga. Manga is already written all out for you. You don't get to decide anything. It's hard to b e the character if everything is already decided for you. In a game, you really feel like the character the game is focusing on, and you can relate more and learn more. I think it's much better than manga, tbh. .w.

Both are SOOOO different that an answer is impossible.

Way back when Mario had a few shows and they were a nice complement to the games - the music was usually the same. Plus, since the episodes were short it didn't linger for too long on a given story, giving a lot of diversity. The Legend of Zelda also had a good show.

However, I would tend to say that MOVIE adaptation of video games tend to be pretty terrible. I'm still in awe with the terrible Super Mario Brothers adaptation for the early 1990s. I feel like John Leguizamo doesn't put it on his résumé...

It's a difficult call, and one I'd have to make on a case by case basis. Generally speaking, I'd say that the video games tend to be better than the manga or comics.

Both Sonic and Mega man have had fantastic Archie Comic runs, and I think that I prefer them to the games. Clannad had a very good manga as well.

On the other side of the spectrum, Digimon had some fair manga series, but they were nowhere near as good as the Digimon World games.

--------------

Those were manga based off of games, but there are many more games based off of manga, and for the most part they are piles of garbage.

Pretty much the only ones you should play are the Jump Stars series and the Naruto Ninja Storm series.

Jump (super and ultimate) Stars are Japan-only brawling games. They each feature a massive roster of Jump characters (Jump, referring to the series of manga magazines) duking it out in a Smash Bros style arena. It isn't quite Smash Bros, but it's the only place to see Goku, Bobobo, and Luffi fight.

The Nartuo Ninja Storm series is a surprisingly competent fighting series. It's fairly simplistic, but the more recent entries feature massive rosters, and pretty good visuals. The fact that it uses the original voice actors, and has several sound/subtitle options is a plus too.

Maybe also check out the Dynasty Warriors Gundam series and Dot Hack games, but that's only if you already really like those franchises. Dynasty Warriors Gundam just shoehorns Gundams in to the DW formula. Dot Hack can be a fairly compelling series, but the games can be a real grind. Also, the games are numerous, scattered across several consoles, and are considered quite rare/expensive.
