(To be quite honest, this review is based off of my experience with the Steam version. But I didn't see a PC version in the VGR, so I decided to post my review here.)
Graphics: 7/10
The graphics are made in a very simplistic manner. It feels as though you could be drawing every scene in a notebook. The style is drawn in a very sketched out and penciled way (which is fitting, since this game is based on the adventures of Maxwell and DC Comics characters). At the same time, some of the items involve layers of details that are so intricate that you can't help but crack a grin. Imagine having to design thousands of items from the English language: anything as simple as an apple to as exotic as a green beautiful naked koi.
Sound: 8/10
Do you remember a childhood of reading comic books? Nostalgic, right? Well, do you remember the words that would splurge over a page when a superhero took a crack at an everyday thug, or a ne'er-do-well villain? "Boom" and "Kapow" might come to mind. This is a key component to the game's sound design. Every time you melee attack an enemy, a super fanfare will play as one of those words appears as a cloud in front of the enemy. Firing a weapon is nothing great to gape over, everything there is standard. Anything else isn't enough of a big deal to mention here.
Addictiveness: 8/10
One of the game's best qualities is how addicting it is. You can make anything. Anything. That's its most luring feature.
Try these, and you will be hooked:
Pink flying sentient bath tub
Microscopic red deadly batman
Cyborg Superman
I think by now you understand. Now go ahead and make that Purple Friendly Python pet you always dreamed of, but never received.
Story: 6/10
Alright, so the game starts with you (Maxwell) and your sister (Lily) trying to settle who's favorite superheroes were stronger. Y'know, that whole argument. The two characters then take Lily's magic globe, (which can travel anywhere. Actually anywhere, as you will see momentarily.) and teleport into the DC Comics universe. Here, they meet "Doppelganger" and go on an adventure to defeat him and a colorful cast of DC Comics villains. It's inventive, but comes across feeling sub par.
Depth: 10/10
This game has a lot to do. Here's a list:
Complete the story.
Do miscellaneous missions to your heart's content.
Complete all Steam achievements.
Unlock all of the various DC-themed worlds.
Unlock all of the wearable character themed costumes.
Spawn as many new items (with as many unique adjectives) as you can.
Set up battles to see which NPCs would win (God v Devil anyone? Gangster v Police? You can do either.)
Make your own items in the creator (and if you have it on Steam, upload them as mods.)
Download other people's mods on Steam.
Difficulty: 3/10
You can summon absolutely anything, at anytime. This makes even the hardest challenges easy, unless you're following the restriction sets for that useless extra rep points. Simply put, this game isn't hard. And nothing could make it hard. As long as you are allowed to conjure up anything, that is.
Overall: 7/10
This is my first review in a while. If you got this far, leave "cookies" somewhere in your comment. That way I know who to express my gratitude to. xD
