Back on June 11, 1982 the legendary sci fi movie E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial came out in theaters. Because of how successful the movie was, Atari decided they'd make an E.T. video game in hopes of making lots of cash. Unfortunately for them, their plan blew up in their face. The game was panned by critics and gamers alike and it's still to this day widely considered the worst video game of all time. Also the game didn't sell anywhere near as well as Atari thought it would. 1.5 million copies were sold, but there were still somewhere between 2.5 and 3.5 million copies that went unsold. A lot of those copies were dumped in a landfill in New Mexico, that's how bad this game is! Now I know some of you are wondering, is E.T. really the worst game of all time or is the hate over-exaggerated? My personal opinion is yes, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial is indeed the worst video game of all time. I'll now explain why with this review.

Graphics: 1/10
E.T. has some of the worst graphics you'll ever see in a video game. There are only 3 main colors for the map: green is the main color, the pits are colored dark green, and the inside of the pits are grey. There's also one area that's blue. I understand that this was a game that was made in the early 80's, but they could've done a better job with adding more color to the map. Also, E.T. himself looks awful in this game. I'm trying to think of a way to describe how he looks, but I can't think of anything else other than crappy. Because of how awful the graphics are, I'm giving the graphics a 1.

Sound: 1/10
The only music in this game is theme that plays on the title screen, and it's crappy. The game also has some extremely annoying sound effects such as the sound when you move around, and when you fall into a pit. Because these noises are so annoying, I'm giving the sound a 1.

Addictiveness: 1/10 E.T. has some of the worst gameplay you'll ever experience in a video game. You have to fall into pits in order to find telephone pieces, avoid an FBI agent and a scientist, while hoping you don't accidentally fall into one of those annoying pits, and complete the game before you run out of time. Also, in order to get out of a pit, E.T. extends his neck so he can float. WHEN HAS E.T. EVER FLOATED BY EXTENDING HIS NECK!? It make absolutely no sense! You won't find gameplay as bad as you'll find in E.T. For these reasons I'm giving the addictiveness a 1 like it deserves.

Story: 1/10 The story in this game doesn't even follow the plot of the movie. Basically the story in this game is that E.T. needs to collect 3 phone pieces by falling down random pits in the ground and picking them up so that he can go back home. Along the way, you'll need to avoid an FBI agent and a scientist. If the FBI agent catches you, he'll take all your phone pieces and you'll have to search for them all over again... If the scientist finds you, will drag you to a certain location. The fact that the story was changed so much and makes absolutely no sense makes it terrible. For those reasons, I'm giving the story a 1.

Depth: N/A I can't give the depth a fair score, therefore I'm leaving that category blank.

Difficulty: 10/10
E.T. is extremely difficult because you'll be spending a lot of time falling down random holes so you can find the 3 telephone pieces, and trying to not fall back in is also frustratingly hard. Needless to say, the controls for the game are terrible. Also trying to avoid the FBI agent and scientist is very annoying as well. For these reasons, I'm giving the difficulty a 10.

Overall Score: 1/10
Like I mentioned earlier, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial is the worst video game of all time. It has terrible graphics even for it's time, awful sound effects, abysmal controls, and a story that makes no sense. I definitely say this waste of time is even worse than Pac-Man for the Atari 2600 and Superman 64 combined! For these reason this game deserves and gets a score of 1! Now that I'm done with this review, I won't be making anymore reviews for Atari games.

Yeah I agree I have played that game and I can honestly that you are 100% correct in giving that game that score. The funny thing is that almost every gamer already knew that this game sucks and what's even funnier is how at the time of me posting this it has a overall score of 4.6 which I say to this who in the bloody hell would rate it higher than 1?!

18mlivingston : Surprisingly, most of the people who reviewed this game on vizzed gave it a higher score than 1. In fact, there was one guy who even gave it a 7.9!

Guys what are you talking about E.T is one of the best or the best game the market has to offer. It has 3 colors on a screen at a time OMG so next-gen. The game play is very original it has more depth than the Last of Us and GTA 5 combined!!!! The sound  in the game is a masterpiece it's like music to your ears. Oh and don't forget the part when you fall in a hole and E.T stretches his head to fly out the hole. That part wasn't in the movie but it's still awesome. So in conclusion I would rate this game a 11/10 P.S I'm just joking

18mlivingston : Your right about that, some people will defend a game no matter how bad it really is. Also I agree with you about PMD, I also love the Mystery Dungeon series (except for Gates to Infinity that game was so disappointing).

mvivas2010 : lol

Oh when I saw "worst game of all time" I immediately wanted to say "Oh, someone reviewed Slaughtersport? Or was it Dark Castle?" but I knew it would be E.T.

You gave your reasoning for it, so I can respect your opinion far more than the average person who says this and has never even played it. But honestly I have to disagree in a big way, albeit respectfully.

E.T. isn't good by any stretch, but I can definitely name games that are far worse than it right off the top of my head, such as the two I mentioned above (both had far worse gameplay and controls). Or how about the boatloads of shovelware and broken games we saw released on the Atari 2600 or even the Genesis? Both consoles had a period where waves of awful titles were released unfinished or just plain broken. Maybe I remember this better because I grew up with the earlier systems and as a result ended up being duped into renting said games only to find out that not only were they no good, but they wouldn't even play past a certain point (I once rented a game that wouldn't go beyond the start screen!). At least E.T. runs properly.

So with so many sloppy games like Another World on the Genesis, or Slaughtersport, and games that were entirely broken (Dark Castle arguably. Broken at worst, horrible and miserably sloppy at best. Or the one I mentioned that would never start) I can hardly view E.T. as the worst game ever made. But much like your review is your honest opinion, this is just mine.

As for the review, it looks like you went off on a bit of a rant rather than managing to remain professional, which is a little unpleasant to read for most people Try being more objective maybe. Still, you can review however you choose, so please don't take me as saying you can not. It's your right to post your opinion after all.
