I don't know about you guys, but i find Psychic types very, very interesting. And i'm sure we all do,for one reason or another. But what i find most fascinating about them is there history in the Pokemon games.I have quite often found that Psychic types,in terms of effectiveness, are either hit or miss. They either go all out,or there just really suck. There is little to no in between.Don't believe me? I'll prove it to you.

In generation one,there was Alakazam.

Alakazam was the first psychic type in the Pokemon games. And is so powerful, that he has been put in the Overused tier of Pokemon for every single generation, except the current one.

Now lets look at another one.
Medicham

This Pokemon has rarely been used competitively since it was ever released in gen three. And it's mega evolution has not done much for it.However,it is rather decent in the game itself,i'll give it that.Still, there is one particular Psychic type that we will be talking about today.

This guy...Or girl, the random gender generator gives us.

Ladies and Gentlemen welcome to Pokemon Reviews, and today we will be talking about Reuniclus.Lets get started.

Leveling And Leveling Experiences
................................................................................................................................................................................
Disclaimer: This section of the review was done by breeding a Reuniclus with a Ditto, and sending the level five Solosis to a freshly made new character,on another 3ds in Pokemon X and Y.

In terms of leveling,Solosis was a bit..Annoying to level. Now some of you may be thinking "What are you talking about?! Do you even see that masssive special attack stat?!"

True. However, let me tell you a few more factors that go into a level 5 Solosis.

1.Your only moves at the moment will be Psywave, and Reflect.Psywave is a move that does not scale by damage, but by level. You are level 5...Just do the math.Granted, this sort of balances out because the Pokemon around you don't have much health.

2.In case you have not noticed, the special attack of this stat is gained by the suffering of all other stats.Basically everything except your health has to sacrifice itself,in order to give this stat more power.Which will be effective later on,but as of now is not that helpful.

Then comes your next move at level 7,Rollout.Which,could be effective against the Bug type gym in X & Y,but sadly your attack stat is garbage. Also, you're a Psychic type. The first gym focuses on using Bug types. You're at a severe disadvantage. But a flying type should give you an easy victory.

After this,it is going to be a very slow, and sad ride till your evolution at level 32.As your next move at level 10 is Snatch.A move that has +4 priority, and negates the effect of a move such as growl,or tail whip...How underwhelming. In all honesty, you should not be focused on slowly wearing down the enemy, you should be focused on killing them, before they kill you.You cannot stall with this Pokemon as of yet.

Then at level 14,you actually get something useful.Hidden Power. It's something decent that will help you in your survival. Its much better than Psywave though.

Next at level 16 comes Light Screen.A move that is actually useful in competitive play, and is decent here. This is Solosis's best non damaging move yet.

Now at level 19 we have charm. It lowers the targets attack. It sucks.Moving onto something better.

At level 24 Solosis graces you with Recover.A move that can restore your health, and is crucial to running just about every set in competitive play. For the love of god, please keep it.

Also after level 24,Solosis suddenly gets a boast of rather impressive moves. At level 25 there is Psyshock,a move that is very powerful, especially with Solosis's massive special attack stat.

Then at level 28 there is endeavor.Which is..Okay.Once again, you have a very low attack stat, and Endeavor is a physical move..I believe you see the problem here...

And the final move you get at level 31,and before your first evolution is Future Sight.A move that can really, really change the tide of a match if used correctly.

Finally at level 32,you get Duosion. With this,Duosion gains a decent boost in health, and Special Defense.Which is surprisingly helpful.Believe it or not,you can actually take alot more hits because of this.

With Duosion's evoltion, comes a variety of more moves. The first being Pain Split at level 34.Something that is really, really helpful in competitive play.Especially when using a pokemon that is slower than your opponents.Good job Duosion.Good job.

At level 39 we get the mandatory move for all Psychic types,Psychic.Arguably the trademark move of the entire type.Boasting an impressive 90 damage.Which is your most powerful move yet.If you do not learn this, you're a fool.Plain and simple.

At level 41 you get Reuniclus. The final evolution of Reuniclus.Which brings another massive boost to health, special defense, and a bit more points have gone into the defense stat.Which is appreciated. And with the final evolution comes a new move to add,Dizzy Punch. And while it is pretty useful, lets not forget that you have little to no attack...So,its not that powerful here. But that's not the same thing for other Pokemon.

The last 3 moves you will learn are non physical. And i'll just briefly go over them now.As..Well,i don't know why,but i have a feeling that i am starting to bore you,so lets pick up the pace, and quickly get onto the next section.

Level 45 offers skill swap. This forces you to switch moves with the target. This is one of the worst things you can do with this pokmeon. As Reunuclus has an amazing skill, which you will see later.

Level 54 gives you Heal Block. As you may be able to guess,it blocks healing.More specifically,it blocks healing for 5 turns. This is useful for competitive play, you may want to keep it.Notice the word "May."

At level 59 you get your final move from leveling,Wonder Room. This swaps the defense, and special defense stat with your target. This is a very, very tricky move.It may be useful later on,but i don't recommend it.Either that,or i just don't have an opinion on it.It may just be beyond me?

Stats Weaknesses And Abilities
.................................................................................................................................................................................
HP: 110
Attack: 65
Defense: 75
Sp. Atk: 125
Sp. Def: 85
Speed: 30

Reuniclus's stats are built to make him/her be able to stay in play as long as possible, and deal a good bit of damage along the way.I find these stats very balanced. It sacrifices speed, for power and defense.

The Health is there so you don't die as quickly.

The Attack has very little points put into it,and for good reason.

The Defense is there just in case you get hit by a bug type attack.

The Special Attack makes it so you can sweep teams easily.

The Special Defense is very high,to defend yourself from moves such as Shadow Ball.

And the speed is mediocre, because you don't need it.You can already sustain enough damage.

Everything makes sense. And i really like it.Very good.

Reuniclus will only take damage from 3 things.Bug,Ghost, and Dark.Which is excellent. To be honest,i have grown a bit tired of hybrid type pokemon. It's nice to get a bit of a break from them. Also, these are easily countered.Ghost can be beaten by any generic flying type. You can take care of Bug,as you will most likely be able to take a hit or two from them. And dark types will fall prey from a fighting type.

In terms of abilities, you will have two options.

Overcoat: This baby will protect you from weather conditions.Such as a sandstorm,or perhaps even hail.It will also protect you from powder and spore moves.

Magic Guard: On the other hand,Magic Guard will protect you from indirect damage.Such as,from weather conditions, posion, curses, and leech seed.Damage from things such as Spikes is also negated. And can also stop you from being poisoned from Toxic spikes.

In all honesty,i believe the choice here is very clear.I would go with Magic Guard. As it protects you from basically everything Overcoat does.Except from spore effects.Which i believe is a fair trade.

Our hidden ability will be Regenerator: This will let you restore 1/3 of your HP when you switch out. This is very useful. And is an excellent ability to have.

Competitive Play
................................................................................................................................................................................
Ah,my favorite part of the review.Reuniclus is actually very good in competitive play.It was heavily used in gen 5,and is currently resting in the Overused tier.Anyhow, the most common set used, and the one i found most effective was-

1-Calm Mind
2-Psychic
3-Focus Blast
4-Recover

Item:Leftovers

Ability:Magic Guard

Nature:Bold

EVs
HP-252
Def-200
SpD-56

This set makes use of Reuniclus impressive bulk,in order to keep gaining power from Calm Mind.Which will boost Reuniclus already incredible Special Attack.

Psychic is there to be your extremely powerful stab move.Able to easily dispatch anything that is weak to it,without a boost to its stats do to some sort of move.

Focus Blast can get rid of Dark types, and Normal types with ease.Just pray that it does not miss, especially against dark types.

And Recover is there for you to heal.Just be sure to know when to heal, and when to not heal.As using it at the wrong time can easily backfire.Trust me,i have learned this from experience...

Leftovers will help you recover health while you are gaining power and bulk with calm mind.

Magic Guard can protect you from many, many things.Such as the weather,or from spikes.Or from my personal bane of the universe, toxic. My very skin crawls just thinking about it.*Shivers*

The Nature we are choosing is bold: As it increases defense, and lowers attack. This will help us take a bit more damage.

Everything in this set is focused in surviving as long as possible. And when we finally have enough power,we will destroy all who oppose us.With our cute,Jello body.

Final Thoughts
................................................................................................................................................................................
Reuniclus is a Pokemon that surpassed my expectations. And made me it admire quite a bit.Its moveset is rather hit and miss, but it does have a few strong points in it.Such as Psychic. But hey, that move is practically manditory at this point.

It's stats are just for me.This Pokemon knows where its true strength lies, and it is willing to sacrifice a mediocre stat in order to boost its efficiency.Which is a very good way of thought.I wish more Pokemon would have stats like that.

Reuniclus also boast a wonderful ability.Which is in my opinion, one of the best in the game.

And competitively, this Pokemon is very effective. It does suffer from a few flaws, but its overall very good.Especially for new players.

Reuniclus just feels..Complete,and solid.I don't know why,but i feel a sense of security when i play it.It just feels..Safe.As long as you are a good player,it will be a good Pokemon. In fact, this would be great in the hands of a pro.I have not really seen this one much in tournament play though. Its just a Pokemon that needs no mega evolution,or nothing else special. Its just..Complete.

If you're looking for a Psychic type with a solid defense, high power, and very few weaknesses,Reuniclus will serve you well.

Reuniclus gets a final score of-4.1/5

Pros
.........
.With a few calm minds,it can easily sweep a team.
.Impressive bulk, very hard to take down without using any special effective attacks.Especially while using recover. Its very possible to use it as an effective wall.
.Very useful in competitive play.Currently resting in the OU (Overused) Tier.

Cons
................
.Leveling can be a bit of a pain.Especially if you're trying to EV train from scratch.
.Very akward leveling moveset. It will need a few Tms to be truly effective.

For alternate pokemon recommendations,i would like to point you towards 3 other Pokemon.

1.Blissey: Blissey is basically a much more powerful non Psychic Reuniclus. It can do everything this guy can,but better.
2.Gengar: While not being a Psychic type,Gengar is basically a fast glass cannon version of Reuniclus.Hits fast, hits hard, but dies quick.
3.Espeon: As much as i dislike the Eevee's,this one is just perfect.Arguably the best out of all of them. And a very good Psychic type.

If you have any thoughts, good or bad,why don't you post them down in the comments.I also take request for specific Pokemon. So feel free to ask.See yah later.*Waves*

Overall, I like this pokemon, I used it in X and Y and it is a fairly good special attacker. I wouldn't really go as far as to say that it has balanced stats, but I definitely think that points are invested in the important stats including hp and special attack. Aside from its hp and special attack, it has somewhat average defenses to take a few good hits. I don't really like that it has 30 speed, but sacrifices had to be made to invest in its other stats. Move wise, I run the exact same moveset in X and Y, maybe with the exception of recover. I'm not entirely sure. Nonetheless, excellent job on the review as always.

I finally got to see the review after recent events dragging me all over the place! And yes, good to be back eh? As for reuniclus... wow. I knew it had a butt load of Sp. Attack, but I've rarely seen this thing in competitive, and seeing how it's Sp. Attack doesn't boost as much from solosis I assumed Reuniclus just sorta stunk at everything else. As for now... where do I get one of these? :3

Reuniclus was part of my team in Pokemon White 2, and it was a good one. It was powerful, and it took hits well. Also, I was very irritated to learn that it didn't learn Thunderbolt T
One thing worth mentioning is that under Trick Room, it could also work as a good Special Sweeper. Nothing (except Ferrothorn ) can really out - slow 30 base speed.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
