Aside from the classics like Sonic, and of course Mario, characters like Jill Valentine from the resident Evil series, Chun-Li and Guile from the Street Fighter games, and Scorpion and Sub Zero from the Mortal Kombat franchise are milked a lot. Every new game has the same set of characters, and that's not a bad thing, especially when the number of playable characters continues to rise as well. I think Mortal Kombat Armagedon has something like 60 playable characters. I think every player has their set of characters they like using more than others. When I play Mortal Kombat, I like to use Sub Zero. And as long as the number of playable characters continues to rise, game developers need to keep milking the franchise making characters for all their worth.

In my opinion, if the original wasn't written with a direct sequel in mind(Final Fantasy, I'm looking at you) & the characters from that first game appear in the next ones(Legend of Zelda, I'm looking at you), they're being milked.

The Legend of Zelda thing about the characters could be explained away though. Link & Zelda are usually descendants of the previous so they technically aren't the same. The only ones that really are being milked would be Ganon, Twinrova, & Vaati. Not to mention Octoroks....

I wish they'd bring Majora back or make a new bad guy like it.

Yeah, I think the Legend of Zelda villains are being reused TOO MUCH, we need something new.

Ganon is dead to me, Vatti, I haven't seen him but twice, and to heck with Twinrova.

It's just getting old.

Bowser is a far-too-common villian in the Mario series. The only games that brought in REALLY different villians were the Mario RPG games. SMRPG saw Smithy, Paper Mario TTYD saw the X-Nauts, Super Paper Mario saw Count Bleck, Superstar Saga saw Cackletta and Fawful, Partners in Time saw the Shroobs, and Bowser's Inside Story doesn't count because it was crap.

As much as I hate to point out the negatives of the series, Dr. Wily is actually overused in the MegaMan games. Granted, you can't argue with the "fake villian" err in MegaMan 4-6, 8, 9, and others, but Wily always winds up being the true villian... Every time. Not complaining though, he's still a good villian and character.

Well, they just made some new ones for Spirit Tracks (Malladus and Cole). However, I think they ought to keep Ganon around. He is THE Zelda villain. BTW, in my version of the Zelda timeline, Minish Cap comes after Ocarina of Time, because I think the whole Vaati thing was just a manipulation by Ganon so he could return (he had it planned out from Minish Cap to Four Swords Adventures).

You're right, Bowser is always the same old final boss. I mean, when I played the first 3 mario games, I didn't find that bowser appeared 'too' much, but now, It's getting kinda old, how Bowser is the final boss of several Mario games.
Howewer, I really, really hate Dr Robotnik from the Sonic series. Don't get me wrong, I love the sonic games, but I just really hate that certain evil genius who has something to do with eggs...(Dr Robotnik). Just joking, he's not that bad, but he's pretty damn annoying.
