Why do people hate the game? What is in it that people don't like? I personally have never played it but I'm hoping to get the Final Fantasy XII HD Re-master (if it is made), and I can't wait because it doesn't look that bad. I'd like to know why people hate it so much.

You can name any game and find people who hate it.  They won't like the combat system, they won't like the story, they won't like the music, they think the weapons are unpowered or overpowered and they hated the art and the scenery and the cities.  Or the story was terrible and they could do it better themselves.

Every game is going to have people who don't like it.  Every game is going to be hated on by a group of people for sins real or imagined.  You'll hear some negative comments but you can find good stuff too.  

Get the game, enjoy the game with an open mind and make your own opinion on how much you like it.  There are games universally hated that I really enjoy and I don't care what others think.  If I'm entertained, it's a great game.  That's it.

Very much agreed there -- every game has some who don't like it, and that's just how everyone has different tastes.  

For my part, personally, I didn't like FF12 largely because I felt like Vaan was unappreciated. Ashe struck me as being stuck-up. About the nicest thing she ever said to him was "don't interrupt me, Vaan." To quote Link from the 1980s Zelda cartoon, "excuuuuuuuuse me, princess." And then they saved the world and went their separate ways and nobody really seemed to care. I'm sure I'm remembering a few things incorrectly, because after I beat it once, I never played it again. I was just like "welp, that just happened. Umm so let's play something else."

I think most people do not like FFXII because they will try to compare it to other games in the series like VI or VII instead of trying to approach the game with an open mind.

I have also heard complaints about people not liking the style of the characters and their personalities.  I have seen complaints about Vaan complaining too much and other characters just being generally annoying.

Well....I am going to say I didn't like the game so much... but not coming close to hating it. I mean at first it was ok for me. The combat system was ok the characters were ok the only thing for me that didn't really make sense was the storyline of the game and how it was portrayed. Go and play the game yourself to see if you like it or don't. some people like the game while some don't sadly...
