Could be your own, could be others'. There's nothing inherently shallow in caring about appearances, especially when it comes to partners, it is ok to be attracted to some and not others.

So, how much bearing does someone's appearance bear  on your opinion of them? Do you think you'd date someone who was, objectively, not attractive? What specific appearance traits instantly repel you? And attract you?

70% personality, 30% appearance. Appearance doesn't matter that much to me. I find it much easier to be with an unattractive girl that is nice and funny than a really attractive girl that is mean and boring. Appearance does matter of course, but not as much as "what's on the inside".

For me, it's 50/50. You need to have both for me to be interested.

I wouldn't date someone with an ugly personality, and what's the point if I'm not attracted to the woman or man? The ultimate goal is to maybe one day have kids. If I can't look at you, there's just no way a kid is going to happen.

It might sound shallow, but appearances unfortunately do matter. And I know this isn't a minority opinion either, though many will be shy about saying as much, for fear of looking like a terrible person.

Gonna sound shallow, a bit, honestly. Personality, for the most part, but the first thing we see is the appearance, so having a good one is good. Its what first interest me of the person, since its the first and only sure thing we can know by just meeting them.
Of course, no matter how pretty a person is, personality is the biggest indicator of, well everything. Doesn't mean appereances do not matter, since they really do.

Well the only time I ever fell in love was through an online meeting (though we knew each other offline as well, but not for several months). And this particular site didn't support uploads of any kind, so I had no idea what she looked like for almost a year.

So seeing as how I actually fell for her long before seeing her picture, I'd say appearance matters very little to me, as good looks are concerned. However I would never have look twice (in that way) at a woman who looks unkempt or dresses in revealing clothing, so in that way looks are very important.

And I'll go a step farther and say there are certain physical features that could attract or repel me if I met someone in person first, and I doubt anyone could say otherwise. If we could, we wouldn't have any perception of "pretty" at all.

Traits that attract me would be dark skin (black women mostly. Not to sound racist, but I'm not attracted to women of my own race), brown eyes, black brown or red hair (not too picky there), and maybe a pleasant smile. maybe.

Repel, nothing physical really that I can think of, at least not naturally occuring traits. Non-physical things that would repel me would be looking unkempt, smoking, drinking, or doing drugs. I could like someone who had any of those traits, I just couldn't be attracted to them. That's just me though.

I'm just glad that everyone has their own "type", so no one can not have someone that likes them due to natural attributes alone. I really believe that.

Lets just say I never go for the "girl next door"- look. Nobody like that would never be happy with me. Not that the "villain next town over"- type of girls would have ever been any happier in a long run.. But such is life.

Hm... Well, I mean, looks are never a bad thing, but at the same time, I would rather be with a nice person that I can get along with, then someone who is nice to look at that I can't stand. But... Personality is most important, but honestly, looks are what catch your eye and get you to even talk to someone and find out their personality. Seriously, are you going to walk into school, and walk up to someone that isn't... "appealing" first thing because you think they could make a great boy/girlfriend? No, you're going to walk up to the person that looks nice and see if their personality is nice. So, in that way, looks are important.

Actually looks don't matter to me. It's whats on the inside that counts to me. The only time I actually ever looked at looks was when I was a kid. Honestly sense I have got older a persons inside is attractive to me the most. Like if they are really ugly inside I wouldn't want to be with them but if they had a beautiful heart.. that's a different story. I for one have found my right guy c: He's everything I ever wanted and I love him so much ~

Seeing as how I have been in mainly long-distance-through-online relationships where I didn't see the person first, I would have to say, especially since the one I did meet in person and all, its like .01% appearance and 99.99% personality.  If my friends saw me with the person I met in person, they probably would have taken me aside and made fun of them, but to be honest they weren't very good friends anyway, and I no longer talk to them.

Now, as for the whole "first impression" aspect brought up in previous posts, I get that too, but I still talk with them, see what they're like, and go off of that.  If anyone is being rude around me I usually step in somehow, or at least try to, because I was treated that way for so long I can't stand being around it much even.  So I guess that makes me seem a little shallow to some, or I think the word is actually "uptight," but it's just how I am, and I don't plan on changing that part of me any time soon.

Anyway I got a bit off track, but it is still relevant, because it supports my opinion that looks matter very little, and are only regarded to me in first impressions of people, which would affect how I approach them.
