Sega CD Review
The Sega CD was way too ahead of its time, introducing games that could be run on CD-ROMs with full motion video which was absolutely unheard of in the 1990s. Even though this console failed it is still remarkable in some aspects, so today, we are going to see all the reasons why it failed but why we still you aspects of it today.
Reason 1 it failed : Lack of knowledge
Now, back in the 19s, most video game developers had very little knowledge of developing let alone video games. This was a huge problem, since most companies that were with Sega at the time were still developing for the Genesis so the giant leap forward was a struggle, and they did not have any clue what they were doing with the CD technology since it was way ahead of its time.
Reason 2 it failed : Bad acting/sounds
Now, I’m not saying all of the FMV games have the most terrible acting ever, in fact, I quite enjoyed Dana Plato in Night Trap playing one of the most serious characters ever. But, some games don’t even come under extreme when it comes to the worst acting ever. One of the most notable games like this is Double Switch, a direct ripoff of Night Trap. They went crazy abroad with the band scenes and the traps you had to pull off were downright stupid. Meaning funny scenes doesn’t mean fun game!
Reason 3 it failed : The FMV games did not work.
Okay, trust me on this one, the FMV games, even though they were unique and a new sense of gameplay, will bore you fast, and in this regard the main problem was the controller, because most of the games on there were shooter games, you’d expect a separate gun for the Sega CD console, but no, the make loads of these games with no accessories to play with. I mean, not trying to be rude or anything, but I think you lost even though the Dreamcast is on its way
